Like you, I discovered the 5 min job turned in to half an hour. What I have done subsequently is to leave the original nuts in place, and use a thin nut on each terminal, there is just enough room on the existing bolt to get the C-Tek adapter on with a thin nut. It would seem all VW Group cars are like that now. :-(

You can also just cut the negatives side connector like a C and then slide it in without removing the nut

Connecting the charger to both poles of the battery is absolute correct. The sticker on the battery tells you to do not connect the black minus clamp to the minus pole at the battery at jumpstarting the car. That also only applies to the car beeing started = having the weak battery. The reason is that at jumpstarting the weak battery has 8-10 V and is connected to the running car having 13.6 V. So the weak battery is charging very fast causing explosive gases to build up. After disconnecting the jumpcable sparks will occur which potentially can lead to an explosion or fire. Especially in gas powered cars you don’t want that (Diesel can’t ignite so easily). If the black minus clamp is connected to the engine or some other metal part 50cm / 20“ from the battery it is much safer disconnecting it when you disconnect that clamp first.
@f3rrar1s3 жыл бұрын
So are you saying before disconnecting the black clamp you should connect a second cable to it connected to an earth, then connect the charger cable?
@olafschermann15923 жыл бұрын
@@f3rrar1s No. On the dead car connect the black cable to an earth (engine) instead of the battery. ( the whole car is earth/ground/minus. ) After jumpstart disconnect this cable first. Therefore sparks occur further away from the battery.

@@eSysmanTech The recovery truck driver told me that a memo went out to all recovery drivers about it. @mitchellbarnow17093 жыл бұрын
I’m so glad that you didn’t have to go to the dealership to do some BS reset, because they might’ve charged you. It was good engineering the way that you wouldn’t be able to loose your battery terminal’s nuts or bolts, it just makes doing anything yourself much more difficult.

Many modern cars send error codes if the battery is disconnected for any reason. Some manuals have the sequence to reset the computer. The CETEK charger is good for supplying the 12 volts to the battery cables when replacing the old battery so the computer does not register a failure in power. Your manual should have instructions

Most high end vehicles especially in a cold climate even if garage kept loose their battery amperage due to the constant internal monitoring of the vehicles systems. Between system monitoring & looking for key-fobs, apps to your phone, anti theft, etc it doesn’t take long to drain down the battery. Battery minders are great low cost trickle chargers that keep the battery up to full charge. Also like running out of fuel don’t forget to unplug before driving off. In Canada we also have to remember to unplug block-heaters in the winter for outside kept vehicles.🥶

In these early days of the Automotive EV Revolution, newer I.C.E. powered cars require much more electrical energy to operate the associated on board electronics. So the irony of "plugging in" an I.C.E. car to keep its battery charged is outright laughable. Don't get me wrong, I spent years as a "trained" Porsche Tech and even got to be a guest pit crew member for Peter Revson. I LOVE Porsches and have owned several myself including a ground up restoration of a 356 Coupe (that my "buddy" TOTALED just hours after completion). At 74, let me say - keep having FUN ! ! Thanks.

OBD CAN BUS cars all have 2 direction sensors that are queried and respond and react if instructed. This is to allow for wear and tear (normal). #1 item on ALL CAN BUS cars is the Throttle body that is queried, responds, is instructed to full open and full close within a MILLISECOND of turning on the key. Cars will not start if this routine fails. The catch is "adaptive memory" which tracks the minor changes in full open and close, which change due to micron level abrasions. Unhook the battery without a "Memory Saver" plugged in and the car will start, but its adaptive memory will not match the throttle now. Lucky you a new car which reset itself after 3 stop starts and 26 miles of diving. The ECU was "satisfied" and warnings erased. AOK.

Enjoyed your video as always. I want you to know something, I am not a car fanatic, I don't like sports cars of any kind, but I seem to learn something new every time, from both your KZbin channels. I just want to support you in the only way that I can, by subscribing to both your KZbin channels, as they are both greatly worthy of anyone's support. I'm sure you know this but I feel the need to state the obvious. You should reverse in your garage with the spyder, so your driving side doors for both cars will be in the middle of your garage. This will give you more room to open the doors to get in which ever car you want, and exit your garage. Curious; I don't understand the battery charging requirement on the Porsches batteries. Doesn't your car run on PETROL? If so, this is something new for me. I don't understand the purpose, for all my years owning a car, in North America. I've never had any issues with the life of the battery.

I wonder why car manufacturers that build cars such as Porsche, Ferrari, etc...don't design a nicer plug receptacle for a charger. I watch a few different car channels and the charger plug hanging out seems like such an after thought but its a reality of owning multiple cars that are known to sit for longer than the average daily driver.
