Having some issues with pushing higher amounts of fertilizer through the drill, this isn't a new issue , as I have videos from the past years unplugging my drill 😂 but here we are again!
I guess I need to look into alternative methods, which I have been doing with hiring some floaters.

I know this is video is two weeks old but 10 will get ya 20 that "air dryer" is plugging up on the air side. Just by the looks of the housing the fan looks like a forward incline wheel and they don't "like" high negative static pressure on the suction side. Why I air quote the term "like" is a forward incline fan wheel will have a non linear reduction in airflow and increase in horsepower requirements as inlet pressure is reduced ( high suction ) as compared to the same restriction on the outlet. Backwards incline or backwards airflow type wheels have higher eff. in a high negative application ( more air for less HP). I said this before I'm no farmer but I move air and control temp and humidity with the best of them.

@angryscottishmechanic848
@angryscottishmechanic848 8 ай бұрын
@@sasfarmer The heat will lower air destiny and effect performance but it's tiny tators compared to static pressure. Fun fact you will see a 2 DegF increase in air temperature for every 1" WC of static overcome by a fan. Newtons third law is unavoidable and if you put 10 HP into a fan the energy must have an and equal and opposite reaction. In moving air we use HP to over come the friction of the system so the opposite reaction to the HP from the hydraulics's is heat. As I said in my post the HP requirements are exponential ( non-linear ) when increased static is required. Adding more HP will have quickly diminishing returns as compared to lowering static.

People just hear 400lbs and think it's a ton of fertilizer, not really.. Depending on what your soil needs and what yield you are realistically targeting. 400 of straight up 46-00 = 184 actual lbs of N enough for a 90bu crop. But blend that with sulfer or potash and now you might need 500 or 600 lbs of seed rate to get to 150lbs of actual N. 👍🙂 I have always said I never over fertilize but use blends to target yields per field. We have even talked phosphate or plants per square foot. 🤷🏼‍♂️😂 Or micros

@mikemitchell2554
@mikemitchell2554 8 ай бұрын
I always figure on 2 actual lbs per bu of cereals and 3 for canola.. And it might be confusing, but the pounds that you seed are not relative to the (actual lbs) that those charts suggest. Example: Dry nitrogen is 46% of 100lbs of seed rate Liquid nitrogen is only 28% And Anhydrous Ammonia is 82% So if I targeted 80bu wheat, that crop will up take 160lbs of (actual) N whether that be applied or mined out of your soils. So I would need 350lbs of 46-00 or only 200lbs of anhydrous ammonia at 82%. Thats long short of it, then if you like me, add potash or sulfer to your blend, your 46-00 might go down to 30-0-6-10 or something which means you need to apply even more seed rate of 550lbs per acre to get that 160lb of actual N. Make sense?

It doesn’t plug when you’re lifting the drill; one would presume that’s because you’re waiting for the cart/section control to stop metering before lifting out? If so, could you not lower the drill well in advance of crossing your worked area; that way by the time the drill starts metering the drill is already down and pressured up so the hydraulics only have to focus on one thing? @mikemitchell

I put on more fertilizer than that with my bourgault drill. Your set up is not correct. First, I doubt that those small hoses on the airguard will let enough air into the fan. Probably starving the fans for air. Second the High Pressure fan upgrade is a HUGE help. Third is how many towers on the drill? More sections seem to help as you have less lbs of product flowing down each hose. Fourth Bourgault has some problems with the airflow at high fan speeds when the sectional control opens up. There is a service bulletin online for this. And finally, slowing down your seeding speed puts less lbs/min in the airstream and gives more time for it to get out. Because you are on 12" spacing you have way less MRB per foot for that much product. Slowing the flow down on your lift circuit will help keep the fan rpms more stable when you lift to turn around as well as slowing down a gear or 2 before the headland to reduce the amount of fertilizer in the airpipes. High pressure fan is a game changer at those rates.
