how does this not have more views!? Such great explanations and so thorough for this plugin. I knew that it raised loudness, but i had no idea how to pay attention to anything other than the input gain. Thank you for sharing this!

I use and love the Sonnox limiter, thx for explaining in detail how you use it. I picked up a couple of tips :)

I’m watching this at work with the volume down, as it often is when previewing YT vids. Odd that the cam is facing you 75% of the time. Showing off the desk? I don’t blame you, it’s pretty cool. Maybe more plugin next time around.

I wish JC talked about the Input Threshold vs. the Output Trim relationship. I have this limiter, but the Input Threshold still baffles me. The way I have used it, and I believe it's correct, is as follows: If Safe Mode is OFF, then Input threshold becomes the "hard ceiling" of the limiter as a whole. Setting the Output Trim, let's say to -1dB, you will still get overs that peak/slip-through that -1dB Output Trim point. Even with Auto Comp ON, which squashes the true/intersample peaks (fairly consistently, but not as consistently as Ozone, IMO), you can get the overs. Now, turn Safe Mode ON. The output trim now becomes the hard ceiling; nothing slips through. Now for comparison, Turn Safe Mode OFF, set Output Trim to 0.0, but set Input Threshold to -1dB. The Input Threshold is now the hard ceiling. This is essentially the two "worlds" the Oxford Limiter gives you: either your in Enhance Xfade mode or Enhance Curve mode. The rest is baffling as far as the difference really is! I do know this, however, if I want to retain the top-end and a touch brighter of a master, I switch ON the Safe Mode, which I never try to slam too high in the first place. I usually aim for 5-10% as the cherry on top for a touch more perceived loudness. Anyone have their own experiences they'd like to share?

GREAT Video!!! Thank you. I just an Apollo Twin MKII Duo and am looking to get the UAD mastering plugs (one EQ, one Comp, and one Limiter). You just solved my limiter dilemma.

JC explains applicable mixing concepts in an almost tangible way. Not only does he share what one could do, but also, why one should do it! Splendid! I must admit, the hot chick effect does help improve focus though. LOL!

halo with sonnox limit for vocals on monitors ...... maybe to achieve a clearer result were i dont feel compression coming in and out slowly i could do with the knee down all the way since it will act so fast its unperciveable?

Great Video!!! So this plugin can be used for mastering you own track? At minimum a poor mans master. After using this plugin there is no need to send your track to a mastering engineer?

Hi Richard, yes you're right. This a professional limiter that is used for mastering, however mastering involves a lot more than just putting on a limiter. Our mastering course goes into this in a lot more detail.

How do I get a clear mix like that? Is it better to use multi band compressor during mixing ?

Thanks for the video. I'm currently 18 mins in to it and apart from the threshold I'm trying really hard to see any difference between this and version 1 of this plug-in.
@pointblankmusicschool
@pointblankmusicschool 7 жыл бұрын
Hello - as far as we are aware, apart from the threshold, the other differences are the dithering section, which has a strength feature option. V2 includes Sonnox latest inter-sample peak detection with True Peak limiting, now ITU-R BS.1770-4 compliant.

why would you let transients through, only to chop them out again later. surely that's just undoing the shaping you were attempting in the preprocessing?
@pointblankmusicschool
@pointblankmusicschool 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Phillip, in the first section you let some through, but not all and in the second section you stop it entirely. This means that the process is more subtle and therefore a little more transparent.

Why dont you use real music to demonstrate this limiter. Real music-played by real musicians with real instruments instead of the horrible boring sounding sample/loops. ????
