A look into the creative process behind these exclusive artist-edition Plum Blossom Rice Bowls, lovingly created in collaboration with Chinese Canadian ceramist Freda Lin of The Bad Potter.
Each ceramic bowl is uniquely handcrafted, and features a plum blossom - a symbol of resilience in Chinese culture. The design also pays homage to our inaugural feature exhibition, "The Paper Trail to the 1923 Chinese Exclusion Act".
A note from the artist:
"The CCM Plum Blossom Rice Bowl project is a timeless testament to memories, conversations, and the resilience of the Chinese Canadian community. Each step of the creative process is collaborative and carefully considered, from selecting the clay and form, to colour palette, to surface designs, conceptually referencing a long history of ceramic creation at the heart of which is sharing meals with loved ones. Using locally sourced materials, the bowls are handcrafted on the potter’s wheel in “Vancouver” Chinatown, featuring contemporary CCM branded elements, custom decals, and hand-painted artwork. Durable and food-safe, The Plum Blossom Rice Bowls are made for everyday use and to be cherished for a lifetime."
These special edition rice bowls are now available for purchase only at our museum gift kiosk! Limited quantities available.
