That pipe is going to be full of tree roots in let then 6 months, Can I recommend next time you line the trench with the mesh then stone, also put a root sock over the pipe before covering with more stone, then finish off with mesh . this will give at lest 10 years before the drain becomes root bound. other then that you guys are doing a great job.
@fhuber75074 жыл бұрын
For a low use drain... the roots will take in the water as fast as they are putting it in the drain. . You'd be right for a septic leech field or a French drain. . This is just a detail to move some grey water further from the foundation and to make it harder for rodents to get in.

What is going to keep roots from plugging up the drain pipe over time? There is plenty of vegetation in the area so it seems like it's just a matter of time before things stop draining. I don't know what I'm talking about, just looking to learn a little bit from those who do!

Hey! Great vid! Just one question: isn‘t it possible that roots will grow into the drain pipe from underneath? I‘m not sure about that, but what i know that roots have a lot of strength - e.g. my house had concrete ground pipes, which were completely busted by roots.

I know your an expert but wouldn't a slope be better since otherwise you'll have more water near building? but then again it's demo ranch and they probably wont use it as much. The hand wash sink is still considered by the state of Texas to be waist water and requires a trash tank between the outfield, also you want to start atleast 10' away from the foundation.
@paradiselost19144 жыл бұрын
I always thought a gray water tank was required. But I don't know Texas laws. In CA you would need a gray water tank which is basically a hole with gravel and a minor county permit.
@SheepdogSmokey4 жыл бұрын
I've seen people dump their grey tank on the ground out of an RV as it was just shower or sink water, not toilet, and I also heard about someone plumbing their house so only the toilet goes to the septic, all other water just into the ground.
@danahebdon68104 жыл бұрын
I know that they know what they're doing, otherwise they wouldn't be in business. Plus the construction has to be done according to code.. there are permits and inspections that are done to help ensure that everything is built accordingly.
@fredericksweet4 жыл бұрын
I had houses out in the country where the washing machine and utility sink drained right into the leach lines bypassing the sceptic tanks altogether.

Dirt will still get inside the pipe, you need to put the cloth around the entire thing, the gravel should be inside the fabric. It should be like one big burrito.

I've seen it as you described as well as putting the cloth in the bottom of the ditch, then the pipe, fold cloth over then stone on top, final grade with dirt.

How?
@DiscoFang4 жыл бұрын
@@TexasBarndominiums The sides of the hole are dirt. As it rains and floods the rock, the dirt will mix with the rock and silt-up the pipe over time. That's why the fabric is supposed to fully surround the pipe and rock.
@wozza00134 жыл бұрын
the cloth should have been laid all the way around the pipe to stop seepage of dirt thru the stones

Why not add textile fabric in the trench first, before the stone, to block root growth into the pipe? With all those trees I'd worry about roots growing into the pipe rather quickly.
@danahebdon68104 жыл бұрын
There's not going to be a lot of water, it'll be only when they utilize it. It's not like the amount that you'd see from a house or apartment.
@FishFind30004 жыл бұрын
The fabric won’t stop tree roots. This system will fail, just a matter of time.
@DiscoFang4 жыл бұрын
Yep. It's not just the waste water that will attract the roots. That trench filled with gravel becomes a low pressure area that any ground water will pool in. Not a big issue though, as the more roots, the more water gets sucked out by the vegetation. It's not a pipe that requires flow-through so roots aren't going to cause any real issues. Worst case scenario - in 20 years they have to dig a new one in.
