The Rough In Plumbing under the concrete slab of our Modern Farmhouse was finally finished after many winter weather delays. The snow in NW Arkansas was nice for a couple days but then I was done with it. I am ready for spring.
Who We Are: A family building a Ranch from Scratch in the Ozark mountains of Arkansas - Jason, Kristen and our daughter Makayla. We started with just bare land... and built roads, brought in utilities, built a Barndominium for temporary living quarters (future guest house), put up fencing, got some horses and chickens, started a garden, and started our country living. Now we are onto having our main house built, a Modern Farmhouse.

As a Canadian, so nice to here that you found beauty in all of that. The animals love it . Well done.

First I want to say thank you for your fantastic videos!! My family and I are embarking on a similar adventure and your content has been/will be an incredibly valuable reference. I do have a question, however, regarding your decision not to install radiant heat, as Ian mentioned in a previous comment. Was there a reason for this decision? We've extensively researched this feature and it seems to be a popular choice among homeowners who build homes with poured concrete floors. Thank you once again for sharing your knowledge and experience.

I am glad you like the videos and they are of help to you. Good luck on your adventure! We did consider radiant floor heating and after doing some research and talking with local HVAC companies we found that radiant floor heating is not really a viable option here in the South. Our temperatures swing too wildly in the winter where we may have 20 degree days and then in the 60's for a few days and then back cold again. Even the swing from night time temps to day time temps can be fairly wide. Radiant floor heating takes time to heat up the thermal mass of the concrete slab and then retains the heat for a long time. The cycle time of warming and cooling the thermal mass is just too long for our climate. We even kind of have the same issue with our wood stove some days where we get it good and cooking to keep us warm at night, but then I have to let it completely die out in the day when we have moderate temps outside. It can become difficult to manage comfort levels when we have broad temperature swings and it also is not very efficient when you cannot just maintain a consistent temp. There may be expensive options out there with radiant heating systems to better manage the heating and cooling of the thermal mass of the concrete slab, but the cost benefit ratio is just not there for us. Thanks for the great question though. I will make sure I cover this topic in the next video of concrete slab pour.

I think u may want to rethink radiant. I have installed many systems in garages up here in MA. Including my own, i would never have a garage without it. It is fantastic
