In this video I run some 1/2 inch Pex water line behind the kitchen wall for the refrigerator ice maker before finishing up the drywall. Installed a T fitting and a couple valves to connect it to the kitchen sink cold water line and then to the connector box on the other end where the refrigerator will be. I used some foam pipe insulation since it will be located behind the wall insulation and against the metal outside wall. Hopefully this will help it from freezing in the winter. I also installed a shut off valve in case it gets really cold so I can just shut it off on those extreme cold days, which is not very often.

The elbow was unnecessary. A key feature of Pex is it's flexibility.

I don't understand tying all your under the sink cabinet plumbing without first installing the cabinet.

I think the use of copper is still important. Much stronger for floor and wall penetrations and support brackets. Then you can switch to plex. Agree elbow at valve discharge would help avoid any hose crimping or stress on valve discharge.

You would be better off running the line inside the house under the cupboard kick instead of in the wall. Most kicks are 3.5" high and then there is no chance of it freezing. Also the 2X4 you used could be just 6" long and then 2 screws through the drywall into the 6" 2X4 is enough to secure the other side of the box without compromising as much of the insulation in the wall.

I am not a plumber but I am a longtime do it yourselfer. Your explanation for the insulation of the water line was good. However, there was no explanation of the numerous parts or reason you were doing each step. Your rational of mechanic need to be explained during each part of the application process. This will help with your viewers learning not just following you. The music was distracting. I hope this will help with your next video. Thanks for the effort.

Agreed. What I got out of this, was you are perhaps afraid to share what you did exactly. I also absolutely hate brass fittings, they tend to rust in about 7-10 years, and then ya gotta rip out the old one for a new one. A real bummer :(

Well. as everyone knows. You don't need to insulate Pex. It's made to expand and can freeze solid without splitting or bursting. Besides. He's putting it inside an insulated wall so putting inside insulated foam is redundant and a waist of time not to mention making a larger hole in the structural lumber to run it.

I prefer Uponor AquaPEX / PEX-A variants for ice-proof construction. Don't agree with the brass fittings, prefer stainless steel 304 myself. Less likely to deal with galvanic corrosion. That thing will prolly be leaking after 10 years or so.

It’s insulated to prevent it from freezing. Why would you want your water to freeze? Lmao he’s going behind the insulation as well

greetings sir; i hate to be the one to bring bad tidings but the ice maker line is supposed to come off the hot water line. it appears that you elled out to the cold side. i will explain if you so desire. good day...........g

The vast majority (if not all) manufacturers of refrigerators recommended using the cold water line. The only possible benefit of using the hot water line is possibly “clearer” ice cubes. The negatives: Hot water will NOT “freeze faster” than cold. It has to first cool down to the same temperature as the cold water, each adds more time and just runs up the electric bill and stress on the freezer. Hot water is far more likely to leach out solder and metals from the plumbing than will cold water. This adds a non-trivial health risk for no benefit.

@@remushaynes2693 Thanks for the suggestion, but that's not to code sir. Likely you will degrade the o-ring quickly with that hot water, and have a leak costing you thousands of dollars. Please call me up when that happens, I'll be glad to give you the bill, and do it right the 2nd time! :D
