I was a young woman during the Viet Nam war and remember that era well. Thich Nhat Hanh had great courage to live as he did at home in Viet Nam and after in exile. His life is in so many ways an example of strength of conviction and dedication.

What a gift to have Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings. I love to listen to him all the time, especially on walks and when I cook. His voice is peaceful and meditative. I wish he were still alive. I would have loved to meet him and thank him for the gift of his being.

I know the feeling you speak of. But I try to put into practice what he teaches about impermanence and thank him every time I come back to the present moment. I see him in flowers, trees, clouds, rivers...everywhere as soon as I recognize any bell of mindfulness. And he lives on through you and me as well, because he is part of us now. So go ahead, thank him for his gift that lives through you, and spread it to as many people as will lend an ear to listen. Much love from me to you, and all those who read this.

Whenever I feel hopeless or frustrated about my life I come back to listen to this talk and immediately whatever I'm going through seem so minor compared to what Thich and many others who went through the war. Able to be encounter Thich's teaching is the one of biggest blessing in my life. Will pactice diligently for liberation from samsara to honour the Buddha and Bodhisattvas like Thich.

It must have been horrible for his people to live through the devastation of his country being ravaged by outside warring forces. It must have been a horrific period for everyone and simply surviving was a miracle. The pain they endured is hard to calculate but he survived and used the experiences in a positive way. I am so glad he survived to share his great wisdom and beautiful soul with the world.

To chant Buddha is to plant "good roots and good fortune", and its merits and virtues are inconceivable. There are ten specific benefits of reciting "Amitabha Buddha" regularly, as follows: 1. Automatically realize every thought of your own heart, every cell of your body, and make yourself in a state of peace and happiness. 2. A single Buddha’s name can make us let go of all karmic conditions, recite single-mindedness, recite emptiness, and eliminate distracting thoughts. 3. Reciting "Amitabha Buddha" allows us to mention "contemplation", to connect with the highest wisdom of life in the universe; to communicate with the instinct of the self, and to bring out the potential of human beings. Fourth, reciting "Amitabha Buddha" allows us to communicate with the Buddha, that is, the mind is a Buddha, that is, the body is a Buddha; not confused, not delusional, not stupid; away from mistakes and inversions. 5. Reciting "Amitabha Buddha" can enable us to recite the goodness of our nature and achieve perfection; the pure and good nature of others can also be brought out. 6. Reciting "Amitabha Buddha" can eliminate evil and cut off bad thoughts, and it is also effective for others; it can stop others' evil thoughts and evil actions, and eliminate demons and evils. 7. Reciting "Amitabha Buddha" can eliminate omissions and suffering; comprehensive thinking and empathy; all six sense organs, self and others. Eight, reciting "Amitabha" can recite transcendence, recite light; recite immeasurable and boundless enlightenment and sobriety. 9. Reciting "Amitabha Buddha" can recall that the self-nature embraces all things in the universe, illuminates the entire space of the dharma world, and all the dharmas. 10. Reciting "Amitabha Buddha" can have full precepts, concentration, and wisdom; awakening, righteousness, and purity; all actions and aspirations are fulfilled, and merit is achieved. .

That is the lesson I learned from Thich, watching his segments, years ago. A passage from Weizenbaum came to mind, where he said this: "perhaps these young folks have some legitimate request, that actually does bother them."

I too, remember the Vietnam war. I was to have been drafted into the military - but one month before - our government instituted the "lottery" and I did not have to serve. That year - after thoroughly investigating the US policies - I lost all trust in my own government. That "war" was all about making money for our military industrial complex. Had it been a serious war - it would have been over in no more than two years. Instead, it was drawn out as long as possible... Most of the damage to Vietnam could have been prevented.

The Buddhist Sutra of the "mindfulness of body" is known as the "Kayagata-sati Sutta" in Pali or the "Kāyagatāsati Sūtra" in Sanskrit. It's part of the Satipatthana Sutta, which is a foundational discourse in Buddhism that emphasizes mindfulness and meditation practices. The Kayagata-sati Sutta specifically focuses on mindfulness of the body, encouraging practitioners to be aware of the body's postures, movements, and sensations as a means to develop insight and cultivate wisdom.

30 min, the past its best imho to have a future sight type of memory, that is to remember the future, but not the past, it can easily be used for healing, forsight/suturesight/precognition... it can also be used to avoid conflict and dissention. see Fred Alan Wolf, and his book as well the yoga of time travel.

I struggle with the idea that good and evil are just notions and everything is part of "the kingdom of god". Unfortunately some things truly are despicable, sickening, wicked. Why would Thich strive for peace if everything is already a part of this perfect "suchness". I also struggle with the idea that suffering is to happiness as mud is to the lotus. Suffering is not necessary for happiness. It might be helpful to ones psyche to believe such a thing because then you can believe that there was a purpose to your suffering and this makes it acceptable to you, but that doesn't make it true. The most I can say for suffering is that once it is over, you have a deepened appreciation for simply feeling okay. But many people never fully recover from trauma and it ruins their life.
