Hi Kevin, would you give me an example of Shoe's and Shoes' please.
@kspaans3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! SINGULAR POSSESSIVE: My left shoe's sole is wearing out. (Here, the sole of just one shoe is wearing out.) SINGULAR POSSESSIVE: Her right shoe's logo is scratched. (Here, the logo of just one shoe is wearing out.) PLURAL POSSESSIVE: My shoes' colors are fading. (Here, the colors of both shoes are fading.) PLURAL POSSESSIVE: My shoes' uppers are too tight. (Here, the uppers of both shoes are too tight.) I hope this helps!

There is a law by Sir George G. Stokes and most of the sources write it erroneously as "Stoke's law" or "Stokes' law"; only Britannica got it right ( www.britannica.com/science/settling): "Stokes's law".

What is the pronunciation for words like actresses, stewardess and names like Carlos and Jesus?
@kspaans9 ай бұрын
Hey there! It's hard to communicate pronunciation through writing, even with phonetic symbols. However, if you're doing them all as singular possessive nouns (actress's, stewardess's, Carlos's, and Jesus's), you would pronounce all of the base words and then add somewhat of an "iz" at the end, if that makes sense. For the plural possessives (actresses' and stewardesses'), you would pronounce them the same way you'd pronounce the base word (actresses and stewardesses). I hope this was helpful (and I apologize if it wasn't)!

@@kspaans if it’s two names like kevin and nicole’s swimming pool do i put ‘s after kevin’s name also
@kspaans3 жыл бұрын
@@whytesplatt Great question. If Kevin and Nicole share ownership of the swimming pool, you would say "Kevin and Nicole's swimming pool." If they own separate pools, you'd say "Kevin's and Nicole's swimming pools." I hope this makes sense!

Computer's screen is sounding weird
@kspaans Жыл бұрын
You're right! For most people, it feels a bit more natural to say, "My computer screen is broken/smudged/etc.," which is fine too. Some phrases still make sense--and may even flow better--without the use of a possessive noun. (Of course, that's not always the case, which is why it's still important to have a solid grasp of possessives. ✔️)
