5:52 - It was genuinely difficult for me to find this image about body positivity that actually included people with real disabilities. Fat acceptance has been entirely taken over the body positivity movement. If you actually read the article that I showed here, it's pretty much just about fat acceptance despite the image showing someone in a wheelchair and another person with a prosthetic leg. I don't think I saw one reference to teaching acceptance of the way their body looks to people with disabilities. Though I have said this all along, now I can with full confidence say that the modern body positivity movement was NEVER about people with disabilities and was ALWAYS about food addicts not wanting to deal with their addiction. They are just grouping themselves with people with real disabilities to censor their critics; which, in my opinion, is quite abusive and insulting to people who have issues with their appearance that were not caused by their own bad choices.

Whenever I talk about "single payer health care" with people in my neighborhood, regardless of political leanings, they understand that letting the government become a "single-payer" for everyone's health problems will inevitably lead to taxpayers having no choice in whether taxpayers should pay for the health problems which people caused themselves by eating poorly.

The Body will cause a reflex to throw up, almost telling the over weight person, you don't need this food. Maybe that's why she thinks Shes anorexic? My mother had anorexia. She used to go to her yearly physicals wearing 3 sets of long underwear, and carry weights in her pockets so her doctor wouldn't realize. It took me going in there with her and yanking up her shirt to get the Doctor to realize. I said, "Ask her what she ate yesterday. Go on." So he did, and she said proudly, because she had eaten something, "One whole bowl of vegetable soup and an APPLE." A month later, though, she had reached 86 pounds, a 5'6" woman, and he only then put her in treatment. As her daughter, I am, yes, overweight, and she used to yell at me that I only said she was too thin because I was too fat. Well. I have eyes. Stop trying to deflect my issues to you. Anyway, eating disorders are not easily dealt with. Rest in Peace, Mom.

This is the reason for the atypical anorexia diagnosis: so many people have died before receiving help simply because professionals don’t think that the person will be in danger. you can still be a healthy weight, and still have massively strained your heart, oesophagus and kidneys to the point of death. the reason it exists is because if it wasn’t made clear as a diagnosis, people would be dying

I hope you feel better and feed yourself appropriately. Tess didn't have Atypical Anorexia. Maby a type of Bulimia ( binge-restrict subtype ). When people say Anorexia, they mean Anorexia Nevrosa, which is often a medical emergency, which is why Tess used this for attention, sympathy and deflect criticism using a deadly disease as a shield. Atypical Anorexia is a different diagnostic, a serious concern that needs adressed, but not with the same urgency ( unless it progresses to Anorexia Nevrosa ). It's important to know you can manage your food intake in a healthy way. You don't have to pick hurting yourself via starvation or get fat, obese, morbidly obese. Fat activists really poisoned the well by using Anorexia as a scarecrow.

I’m a teen ballerina suffering from anorexia nervosa. I’m 5’5 and 72 pounds.(165cm 33kg) The amount of suffering I have gone through and still going through, even in recovery, is something she will never be able to understand. My vitals were so low that doctors thought I wouldn’t make it. But I did, and trying my best to stay alive for the next day everyday. To hear her say “I’m anorexic” makes me feel like I’m a joke. Like I’m not alive. Please, don’t glorify anorexia, bulimia, or any other eating disorder, mental illness, or sickness. We are actually suffering and hurting. We want to live and have a full life. This woman just doesn’t understand what anorexia can do to you. Thank you for reading this long post. EDIT: thank you so much for showing your support. I have been in recovery for a few months now. I added 10 pounds in just one month, and started to think of food as something that helps me out, not make me a bad person. My new favorite food is... *drumroll pls*. STEAK! My mom and dad now take me to restaurants, and i find new food everyday that I like. I gained close to 10 kg ever since I started recovery, and look much healthier, in my opinion. I still look skinny, but I ope to go back to ballet and gain muscle to look like me again.

I don't think she is annorexic. However, I believe she was starving herself. It is the classic cycle of starve, binge, guilt, starve, binge, guilt, starve. You can be morbidly obese and be starving 75% of the time but then eating 4 pizzas every day. The only way to stop the cycle is to eat a diet you can realistically stick to. Often times people don't do this because they believe they can lose weight quicker starving themselves but this ends up in binging 100% of the time.

Sounds like she does have an addiction to binge eating (an eating disorder) which is still a mental health issue she should seek treatment/medical help for. Even those with addictions to drugs or alcohol can get help and turn their lives around too... Obesity is absolutely an eating disorder. I witnessed it with a close friend who also ”hardly ate” 10am-drinks 32 oz soda 2pm- drinks another 32 oz soda. 3pm- complains how they “hardly eat” “starve”, yet still gains weight. Proceeds to snack on 1/2 family size bag of chips over a 15 minute period. Gets into odd hyper fixated mode, most likely doesn’t realize just how quickly and copiously they scarfed down chips. 5pm- orders a shelled taco salad with double beef for “extra protein,” extra cheese, and extra sour cream. Yea.. they somehow managed to unknowingly hack a salad into a giant taco instead. 7pm- 32 oz soda 10pm- snacks on two hotdogs because “they’re sooo hungry” since they “hardly ate all day.” Morbid obesity is a terrible desease where you always feel hungry, never fully satisfied, and have a disordered perspective on portion sizes, and appropriate meal times/choices. I feel for people that struggle with this.. I really do.. however it’s about time we realize they need just as much compassionate help as other forms of disordered eating. Whoever implied that Tess holiday has “anorexia” is a gross enabler. Edit: “30 liters” to “30oz”- then to “32oz” because apparently, I don’t know standard “Large” fast food cup sizes.

@secretlybees
@secretlybees 2 жыл бұрын
It can happen. Starvation is a severe deficiency in caloric energy intake, below the level needed to maintain an organism's life. This could be eating 900 calories a day, or eating 900 calories in a week. The degree of starvation is different. Then, there might be times where one eats like a 'normal' person, or binges. The body holds onto the calories more due to meal inconsistency and it not really knowing when it will get food again. It also depends on the type of food. You could be starving if you eat 3 glazed doughnuts a day, and some people's bodies are more likely to go into storing mode quicker. One can also get fat and then BECOME anorexic and then their body continues to hold the fat, or even holds onto it more whenever a person isn't in starvation mode. I starved myself for about a month. Had a veggie and berry smoothie every day, and nipped a few bites of chicken when I was REALLY hungry. Lost a good amount of weight. Went back to a 700-900 calorie a day diet (mostly carbs) and gained it all back and more. I don't know if Tess is anorexic or not, but there ARE people who look like her that are. The DSM updated its criteria so people at any size suffering from a HORRIBLE disease can get the help they need.
@Willowy13
@Willowy13 2 жыл бұрын
I know it is incredible, but it can happen. There is a reason it is said we have to have 6 meals a day (3 main plus 3 snacks). If you eat little your body may understand that you will lack food and go into fat storage mode, be it fat from the food we eat or the one produced from converting glucose. But you have to be extremely inactive/lazy for this to happen and your hormones must be messed up too.

this comment section is honestly shocking. i had the same eating patterns as her for 5 years and got so thin and sick that i almost died. when i recovered, i gained weight and then lost some because i didn’t feel the need to binge at night anymore. it’s very possible for her to be losing weight in recovery because part of recovery is learning how to eat throughout the day so you don’t binge at night. disordered eating causes your metabolism to almost completely stop, which makes those binges stick around. people who don’t fit the stereotype for eating disorders still deserve help and support. the whole point of atypical anorexia is to offer help to people who aren’t dangerously thin but still have dangerous eating habits so they don’t feel like they have to get any “sicker” to deserve recovery.

I know a recovered anorexic, and his body is naturally very lanky, so it wasnt very noticeable at first just by looking at him (aside from dark circles under his eyes), he just looked sick. It wasn't his body weight that had us worried, it was the fact that he got a salad that was just lettuce, no dressing, and took maybe a few bites of it. It was him constantly checking his wrist (body check). It was the fact that his brain was off, he's usually funny and witty, energetic. But you could barely get one-word answers out of him. It was him not wanting to eat in front of others, in order to hide that he wasn't eating. It was the fact that his showering schedule went nuts. It was his refusal to be photographed. Not his weight. That's the thing with a body that big at such a large size even if you go a month or few of calorie restriction and typical anorexia diets doesn't mean it'll be visibly noticable... It takes a while to notice weightloss. And many people suffering from Ed behaviours do go through a binge and restrict cycles. Anorexia is not a body type - anybody could have anorexia not just skinny people. It's actually a big problem where girls with EDs who weren't stereotypically skinny and underweight were denied treatment because they didn't visually look the part or because they didn't look endangered.

When I was 14 yo I only 27-28kg, skin and bones, not because of anorexia but because the doctors made errors on my surgeries since they barely know what to do with Peutz-Jeghers. I had a colostomy bag that time and whenever I eat I became more thin because I had my small and large colon disconnected so I couldn’t digest any food and I got no nutrient from the food I intake orally. In short, when I eat, it’s like I just vomit everything through the colostomy. This one consultant surgeon said if my colon won’t be joint again then I will never go back to normal. Gladly, a foundation helped us and we transfer to a private hospital and there I got my colon back to normal. Within a year, I’m back in a normal weight around 40-43kg because I am eating. Eating will give you weight, okay? unless your colon are disconnected the same way they did to me years ago and honestly, nobody should ever go through that. It sucked. My point is, YOU CANNOT GET FAT IF YOU ARE TRULY STARVING YOURSELF 🤦🏻‍♀you’re that big because it reflects how much you eat. I’m not to shame anybody but that’s how eating works

An old female friend of mine opened up to me about her struggle with anorexia. She at one point was so malnourished she would faint every time she stood up. She got so bad she was looking up the calories in toothpaste. This absolutely disgusts me because it cheapens the struggle of people that legitimately are affected from this disorder.

That is so tragic. I hope she got help that's as bad as it gets

I used to spit my saliva out because I was scared to swallow it. I also would black out every time I stood out and sometimes faint. Now I’m trying to lose weight again because I just went through a binge phase, I’m trying not to do it in a disordered way but it’s all I rly know

I feel like what she was describing was binge ED bc often times they restrict then over eat in large amounts often adding up to a days worth of food or more, then restricting again and feeling guilty. They often turn to food during stressful, fun, and sad times, also it can be mindless as well.

When she said she’s “literally starving” it reminded me of the SpongeBob episode where Patrick eats SpongeBob’s chocolate bar, forgets that he did it, and says “now I’m gonna starve” and it zooms in on a grotesque image of Patrick’s gut 😂

she is starving, its correct. If you have insuline resistance the body doesnt burn the sugar but stores it. With continuesly high bloodsugar the body stores everything but cant burn. That makes you hungry while you just ate. Insuline stays high when you drink coffee with sugar and soda. So its possible she doesnt eat a lot but has high insuline levels all day, that means no burning but storing. That means she is hungry while fat because the fat is locked. You should be informed before judging.

I was raised with some poor food choices and it felt me as the fat kid in middle school. I didn't really care until I started to barely have any energy to do anything. Merely just walking would drain me to my last breath, so when I made it to high school I made a promise to myself to change for the better. So I went from 245 to 218. It's still a lot of weight, I know but it's still an ongoing journey. I've been eating newer healthier foods, been eating WAY less junk, and sometimes skip out on lunch because my stomach has gotten used to not eating a whole lot. My goal is 190, now I don't wanna be a muscular man, no. I just wanna be an average and healthy weight so I don't die when I turn 45.

Even if I eat something mildly unhealthy, I go and burn the calories because yeah, I don't wanna lose all of my hard earned progress. Now, I do plan to start some exercise routines, like walks and jogs for a good hour each day.
