Love how she brings up mental illness as an example of how visually you can't assess someone's health, as a mental health counsellor, we use visual cues to assess how our clients are doing all the time. someone's poor hygiene, change in dress, dramatic weight loss or gain, odd movements, can all be signs of poor mental health.

I was gonna say, even on an unprofessional level, I can tell when depression is getting the better of some of my friends by the way they look. Things like matted hair, unbrushed teeth, and weight change are some pretty blatant clues.

To be fair some mental illnesses can't be detected visually. However you're still mostly correct. Look can still tell a lot about person. Being bit chubby can be sign of just poor lifestyle choices. For example going out and partying every weekend easily builds up caloric intake. While being extremely obese is clear sign of someone using food for comfort due to mental issues.

@Tespri yes, of course some people can hide their mental health struggles quite well, I just take issue with what she said in the video and the attempt to make a broad brush statement about how you can't detect someone's health by looking at them and proceeds to give examples of mental health to make her point. Trained professionals can be quite good at detecting issues with health by looking at someone and making observations.

I once proved a point to my mother who was over a hundred pounds overweight. She always tried all these trend diets she found in magazines and they never worked. She also bought a gym membership and wasted money on a trainer (who was in idiot), and she gave up cause it was too hard. So I told her, here's what we're gonna do. I get to control your portion sizes for 3 months. We will still eat all the same foods (I cook at our house), but you have to let me get your plate, and pack your lunch for work, and you can't go back for more. I also told her that ANYTHING is exercise, moving is exercise. So I'd have her just do things like. Lift your legs off the floor from the couch, and hold them there for 10 seconds, then drop them, do that 5 times. Raise your arms up and swivel them for a set time. Get up, and sit down 10 times not using your hands. Stuff like that. And my last rule was she couldn't check her weight at all till the end of the 3 months. I started weighing her portions. And I'd just drop them by a couple of grams every day or so. We still all her faves. Breads, pasta, rice dishes, burgers all of it. "Do a lap around the house one time, and sit back down." So on, so on. At the end of the 3 months she'd lost 23 pounds, and just started crying, and hugged me. You don't have to starve, and be sore to lose weight. I hope everyone realizes that.

People think they have to behave like those folks on "Biggest Loser" but no you were 100% right. For exercise just move more that's it. Park far at the store, walk in place for a few minutes. As for diet. It's calrioes in vs out. Simple math and just eat a little calrioes, so high volume low calrioe

Most of the fat on a sumo is on the outside, and not between the organs which is very important. If a sumo stops the training and continues to eat the same way, their health can be in trouble rather quickly.

I remember a friend in college who was over 400 lbs, it took him almost an hour to walk from his dorm to class. He would take baby steps because walking at all is hard, and he'd have to take breaks every few minutes. It was maybe a 10 minute walk for a normal person

I'm a male so I don't THINK anyone would bother sugarcoating (I could be wrong) but people often guess my weight about 60-80 pounds below what it actually is. I've gotten weighed with relatives and friends WAY bigger than me to demonstrate this point, they almost always end up weighing less than me. So I wonder how much passive activity + the macro balance of your diet affects the composition of a person. I gained weight from overeating home cooked meals; real meat, real carbs and real veg. I don't care for most junk food and growing up My parents mostly grilled and baked the meals we ate, I just ate too much 😅.

​@@williambrinkmeier1772 I don't think it's genetic, the body will only build the muscle that's required to move when your that big. if he just walked until he was about to drop dead, he'd probably get more muscle and be able to move easier, but because he's that big, he tries to move as little as possible, worsening his predicament. If he were walking more, working out, and dieting, while still being fat, then it's genetics, but if you can do the work and get results, and you just don't want to, that's on you. Also I'm sure you're super fit, and idk what a no-workout version of you looks like, but in my mind, if anyone who doesn't work out(or doesn't have a physically demanding job) tries to squat 405 they are gonna get folded into oblivion.

Literally had a friend who was always overweight since I knew him at 13. He was probably 300-400lbs in high school. He passed away at 23 in his sleep. Most likely from sleep apnea aka due to his weight. It is sad, I miss him and it pisses me off that ppl try to act like being obese is okay and “beautiful” no it’s unhealthy and dangerous. I took it serious and lost 55 lbs, trying to lose another 15-20 lbs. I was 230 more muscular than most but was tired of being chubby. I hope people become sane again

You and many other red pill KZbinrs helped me with my problem with obesity. I always knew it was a problem but having these fat acceptance people on tik tok made me feel like it was ok to be that way like mentioned in the video. I deleted majority of social media and started working on myself 4 months ago. I used to be in the 380 lbs range and now I’m 270 lbs range. Being obese gave me an umbilical hernia and it was ulcerating. If the hernia got infected I could’ve died. Now that I’ve lost a decent amount of weight, I can get a hernia repair surgery and not have to worry about it anymore. The hernia is painful and the death scare was real. Having people like you calling out bullshit and telling the truth helped me realize I was in denial… thank you for all of your videos.

Man... I've been trapped in the opposite cult for 4 years too. A pro anorexic cult. I truly believed being like 70lbs and under was healthy and anything higher was fat and disgracious. Having the lowest BMI was a competition and we were all so insecure that we had to pretend we were better than the other because we were ''disciplined'' enough to not eat anything. We were all encouraging and influencing each other down a dark path on some websites and forums. After multiple health scares and realising that it was complete bullshit, I decided to start recovering (which was very recently). Everything you said sound so familiar but on the total opposite side of the spectrum. Now it's so hard to eat enough on a daily basis and, just like you said, not returning to old, bad habits. I don't know how people obviously see a problem with pro anorexics but not with those fat activists when it's the exact same thing, one extreme and the other! Your videos help me out a lot.

That's so sad. I've heard it's this way in many parts of Japan, and the girls there are very fat conscious and are thin. I think that certain videos talking about how disgusting fat people are, will cause you to have a trigger that makes you go down the anorexic path, because you don't want to be fat. Watching all these videos, scared and nervous of being fat... Then boom, a traumatic incident and then it happens, the darkness. The thing is, we need to be kind and positive to people. Sure, it's not okay to be at either extreme, but don't treat the people like they are trash, because then it's going to make them double down on their path and the mental illness involved. DO PEOPLE THINK THAT AN OBESE PERSON DOESN'T KNOW THEY ARE OBESE AND THERE IS AN ISSUE? Only a small portion of people (pretty much only f-ist left-ist, lib women are this way). It's the same with the anorexic group you speak about, because they are only a small portion of very thin/anorexic people. I would think that many of these people need soft kindness; however, many in here posted how "toughness" changed them. I think that "toughness" can make someone change, because they don't want to be made fun of, or treated like an outcast.... But then you're just a follower, following others on someone else's path... Not going down your own path, with the help and support of others. That's the difference to me. ---------------- My suggestion to you is to find a local dairy farm and start drinking farm fresh milk that isn't heated at all. That will help you in all sorts of ways including putting on weight and getting you a ton of extremely beneficial nutrients, as well as fixing your gut microbiome which most likely was damaged with what you were doing. I personally have fasted by not eating for 3 days at a time, but I weighed 300lbs and had the fat stores to do this. I also assume your group didn't follow fasting protocols, and people were probably still eating during the day... but tiny amounts... Right? Not eating will allow the body to heal and do a lot of good things if it has the fat storage, but if you don't have the fat storage, and you're just eating tiny amounts... That's going to be bad.

Hi, dermatologist here. I own my practice and treat many obese patients. I have lost quite a few patients as a result of their morbid obesity due to skin infections. When severe infections occur in the deep folds of skin and fat, it is a bacterial nightmare. It’s hot, sweaty, you have friction, and tearing of the skin coupled with poor hygiene. It is also very difficult to treat because there is no blood flow to the area, so antibiotics are not effective. The infection spreads, they become septic, and they die. It could all be avoided if they lost weight. In addition, some people refuse to acknowledge their weight as the root cause for their problems. Due to that, some will refuse treatment solely because the treatment is different for people of an average weight. This mindset infuriates me. I lost a young woman two years ago due to her refusal to acknowledge her weight problem. She weighed 550lbs, was barely able to walk, and truly believed and preached this health at every size, and fat acceptance nonsense. She was 32 when she died. These people need to wake up. Your weight will catch up to you.

The best way to avoid such issues are proper hygiene, good ventilation and drying of the area, and getting medical treatment as soon as it starts. The longer you wait to treat the issue the worse it can become.

I go to a very woke school and just recently they placed body positivity posters everywhere around the schools (the hallways, the bathrooms, etc...) and they even got health professional to come and tell us about food disorders and she told us that diets were bad and to accept your body. It makes me a bit sad because all my fat friends at school have problems in P.E class because they get exhausted after running for less then 2 minutes at a slow pace. That food specialist ain't telling me that accepting your body is fine when you have trouble running more than 30 seconds and have to take breaks every 5 minutes in sports.

I go to med school and people here are so active they sometimes miss a lecture to go to the gym. And we’re only 47 people so we’re close and really like doing any type of sport. Just today i was going to head out and a boy stopped me to go play tennis with them. And the food at our canteen is always healthy, some type of soup and curry and baked vegetables. She has told me I know nothing, she will only listen to people with degrees, that I am stupid, and the research and wisdom I have means nothing. A coworker of mine (first responder field of work) who is older has torn a muscle in his side-not pulled-but severely torn. He tore this muscle because a morbidly obese person on the ground needed to be picked up. They refused to help move their own body weight at all. Went all limp noddle. My coworker’s doctor has stated that it’s possible he may need surgery. Due to his age this injury for our line of work may end his career. People say “don’t worry about it because it doesn’t effect you”. Well…it does. It literally does effect me that other people are morbidly obese because I have to lift them on a daily basis. Also before you say anything also understand that my job involves many many things-not just lifting obese people. I did not choose this profession for lifting them. I chose it for many other reasons.

Went from 188.8lbs in 2017 to 140lbs today just by changing my daily patterns. I cut out 80% of my sugar intake, have a very demanding physical job (backroom retail) which I'm constantly moving, lifting, pulling boxes/pallets, etc....and stay active at home. Walking/jogging and watching how much I eat has given me way more energy and stamina than ever before. I'm 45, male and 5'7 height. Look great, feel great and generally way more happy than those who don't take care of themselves. Self-preservation is not selfish/narcissistic/fat shaming, etc... It is showing yourself that you care about your health and others.

as someone who is on a weight loss journey and weighing the lowest I've ever weighed.. the biggest struggles for me are having almost no support, changing my entire lifestyle, and a massive lack of knowledge ( turns out you don't need much knowledge at all, just add more vegetables and fruits, drink more water and eat less food in general ).. ontop of getting diabetes and things under control.. but man.. the change in mental health is insane.. let alone physical health.. I'm doing things now I never dreamed of doing.. and quicker then i ever could of dreamt.. I have mental disabilities and things that genuinely make it alot harder for me.. but plot twist.. my mental disabilities and health problems are all better due to living healthier and working on being a better person.. turns out being healthier is a natural and good way to help with mental illness and things.. better then any drug could.. only thing I would say is for people like myself, the first step to losing the weight is working on your lifestyle and the mentality you have towards life.. if you find a reason and a purpose that matters to you, then losing weight comes naturally.. for me I found out I really love exploring new places.. but I couldn't do it because of health problems.. which gave me the motivation and reason i needed to lose weight.. and now i feel the best I've ever felt in my life and i get to explore and go new places and actually enjoy it and love it.. anyway, I wish anyone and everyone the best with life, I hope you all stay positive and happy.. have a good day :)

I was living with a sjw that was a victim 3x (weight, mental health and lesbian). It was close to impossible to have any kind of conversation without her pulling out one of her victim cards. Anyhow, my bloodwork came back as pre-diabetic, which of course I found concerning. She comes home one day and I mention to her that I'm pre-diabetic and really need to get more broccoli into my life. She completely freaks out on me! How dare I mention "diet" (I didn't, just broccoli)! Her girlfrind was on psych meds that were causing her to gain weight and the mention of diet harmed her mental health. I sat in stunned silence. The girlfriend in question wasn't even in the house. The following day she pranced into the house, girlfriend in tow, each sucking down a huge fattening, sugary frozen shake-like drink. Not only was she enabling her girlfriend to deepen her weight-related self-esteem issues, she was flaunting something that could, theoretically, be highly triggering to me (this happened 6 years ago and I only now realized the irony).

And I always loved when they bossed me around or wanted to “sit down” which meant I had to get a hoyer big enough to support them, get them into it and then PUSH 450lbs. Holy shit! And because I was the youngest on the team (and maybe the strongest but I’m not that strong) it was MY job, of course. Wow. I loved my patients but I really hated the workload. At least it made 12 hour shifts fly by because of all the work involved. Also the pay was shit 😂

@@dolphin1418 no, it was an assisted living facility, one with many locations and it seems “luxury” and they charge the residents themselves an arm and a leg (some apartments on my floor went for $12K/mo) but their practices were SO BAD. Initially I was excited to get overtime AND they’d offer a bonus because it was always last minute (as in we need you to come in NOW, ASAP) or so I thought. Turns out due to some weird pay cycle they purposely created it wasn’t actually overtime and additionally I got HALF of my hourly rate, thus the “bonuses” which they didn’t even offer anyone, so by the time your paycheck comes around and the taxman takes his portion, it wasn’t worth it. So I had to chuckle a little at “hazard pay” since they barely paid me to begin with. And all my coworkers were incredibly lazy so, as someone who genuinely cared about the residents and wanted the best for them, I had to do the lion’s share of the work. Again, I still miss the residents/patients (because really despite being an “assisted living” facility, everyone was old and sick and needed a lot of help, so they were more patients than residents) but I really started resenting that place and the way they handled issues. ETA: sorry for the rant and thanks for asking! I got out before I could do any serious damage to my back but other than the obese patients, there was still a lot of lifting and moving of wheelchair bound patients as well, so it was a physically taxing job since I’m not that big/strong and all the residents weighed more than me.

This is good for me to hear. Last time I weighed myself, I was in my early 300s. I don't have a scale at home so idk how much I weigh right now, but since the beginning of the month, I've been dedicated to lose weight and get healthier. I was told that 130 mins of exercise a week is a good start so I started going to the gym 5 days a week and using the exercise bike. My minimum is 30 minutes on the bike a day and I also had already been cutting my calorie in-take before I started going back to the gym. I try to push myself and do at least 35 minutes of exercise or more if I can push myself but since losing weight, I've been feeling like I have more energy and I sometimes go over my daily minimum. Before I started, my stomach was bigger than my chest and now my stomach is smaller than my chest. I probably haven't lost much weight but the little weight I did lose has made me feel a lot better. It also has helped my posture. I think I had an issue with slouching cuz my stomach was too big, and now I'm able to consistently walk comfortably with my shoulders back. When I started a few weeks ago, I struggled to keep up 60 rotations per min on the bike and now I can more easily do 70 rotations per min on the bike. I'm no where near ready to stop this, but I'm just feeling really proud of myself and hopeful that I'll be in a much better spot by the holidays if I keep this up. And btw, I also don't eat 100% healthy. I can't afford healthy grocery food cuz I don't have my snap card rn, so I have eaten a little bit of fast food (not much cuz it makes me sick.) But I will sometimes eat 1 or 2 things from the dollar menu and then I'll be full. But I definitely decreased my overall calories cuz I don't eat 3 meals a day anymore. I eat a small breakfast and then a medium sized/small dinner which is mostly stuff i cook at hime like soups and chili. I eat slowly and when my body says I'm full I stop eating, I don't over eat anymore. It's all a mind game basically. If your mind tells you it's too hard then your body will give up. You gotta have an end goal in mind and keep picturing that goal whenever you're tempted to quit. For me, it's wearing certain clothes like crop tops confidently. I don't want my belly hanging out for everyone to see, so I'll just need to lose weight so I won't feel bad.

I've said this on Amberlynn Reid's channel because she's been on a "weight loss journey" for 10 years and gained 200+ lbs instead of losing and shoots off "f@tphobic" to anyone who is trying to help her. Anyway, I worked as a CNA in few nursing homes and mostly it's elderly residents. There's always one 30-40 something year old bariatric patient there because they couldn't take care of themselves or have family to do it so they were sent to the nursing home. And everyday, we had to wash them in bed because they refused to get up or they couldn't walk anymore due to the weight, and let me tell you about the smell. Despite washing them everyday, they smelled foul and I feel bad for saying it. Ammonia thrown right in your face and the heat was blasted inside the room. I remember having to wear a mask to hide my reaction when we would roll them over and we get a whiff. We'd find mold in between the folds from the sweat built up. Fecal matter because they use bedpans and it's hard to wipe to get everything until bath time.. It was terrible and what sucks is that the patient just accepts it. They don't care they became like that and they won't do anything to change.

@@VerticalForklift While I was there, their care plans never really state any weight loss for them unless they spoke to their doctor about it and the doctor contacted the nurses at the nursing home. I do remember they were served the same meal as everyone else from the cafeteria but there was no ban for outside food except for those who ate soft foods. Even a few elderly residents were given alcohol by family who visited. So, most of the bariatric residents have family bring them snacks and other foods. There would be a pile of candies and junk food on their bedside tables. And a reminder; they aren't getting up to walk or exercise. The only exercise they got was from us turning them over in bed to clean them and their sheets.

losing weight slowly is far better than fast! not only is it healthier, it lets your body physically adjust over time, and let's you adjust and get used to better habits. i went from being from 265 pounds to now 175 over the course of a year, i started slowly exercising more, and cooking my own healthy food! but i didn't starve myself, i just ate a bit less than what i needed and i was losing weight gradually but consistently, i can't explain the happiness i felt seeing it decline every week

That's definitely the best way to lose weight. Just cooking your own food and avoiding soda is enough for most people to lose a significant amount of weight, even without calorie counting, although you might plateau early without understanding how much you should eat.

I’m in my 40s and was overweight for two decades. It wasn’t much of a problem when I was younger, but once I was in my late 30s all the medical problems started to pile up. So I was on a bunch of meds to help with what I created as problems in my body. I was so sick of taking medication to survive that I finally got off my ass and did something about it. I lost 96lbs was able to come off all the medication, had much more energy and stamina and felt so much better. I'm 5'8 when I was severely depressed gained weight I ballooned up to 215 pounds. My psychiatrist said something that shifted my mind on it "You're are subconsciously killing yourself slowly. You're committing a slow suicide by allowing yourself to gain weight and inactive. You can either succumb to it or fight back." That woke my ass up. After a year and 2 months of calorie restriction drinking nothing but water and when needed for protein milk and having both a cardio and strength training routine. I lost 52 pounds and am now at a weight that's healthy for my height, but my goal is 145 now I'm less that 10 pounds away from that. My bone density has increased and I no longer get sciatic and neck pain from just sitting. Being obese is bad for you there is no easy way to put it. You fuck up all your organs, bones and teeth. Half the problems obese people have can be fixed with weight loss. It's not bad to love your body, but letting yourself balloon up to weights that can certainly kill you before age 40 isn't loving your body. You're just committing a slower form of suicide.

Graduated college at nearly 300lbs at 5'7" and absolutely hated myself for letting myself go that far. I started working an extremely physically demanding job that has both improved my cardio and helped me shed nearly 60lbs over 7 months. I feel so much better, my already bad knees don't hurt as bad, and I can actually enjoy my hobbies without constantly being out of breath. I was a Marine. We literally have height/weight standards. I was a class leader at my MOS school and wad supposed to help one Marine lose weight. He insisted he was “big boned”, he was “healthy” and would “work-out and hardly eat” but couldn’t lose weight. His workout’s were absolute jokes. He would eat salads at the chow hall but literally drowned his salads in ranch dressing and would clean the bowl (it literally looked like cereal). I told him you would probably be better off eating a cheeseburger with fries instead of that bowl of ranch. Many of these people are delusional.

You need to be able to run. Not only for yourself, but for your team as well. If you’re a casualty and get stuck out there it’s a real possibility that you’re costing the lives of other Marines who are trying to get you out of there. Even on the flip side. I have grown up with two parents both over 350 pounds, lung disease heat disease and liver failure/kidney failure all run in my family. Thankfully my parents have both always tried to educate me about health and made me do at least 1 sport every year since I was 5. Last year one of my heart chambers started unevenly beating and since then I have been doing 45 minute runs every day. With videos like this and the knowledge of the conditions I am prone too I have been able to get the motivation to go run every single day. Thanks dude even if people hate the truth it does matter

As someone who was a competitive athlete through high school and college- fitness is a mental skill. Realizing that it is just a battle against my own mind has made it impossible for me to blame anyone or anything else when I became unhealthy and gained 30lbs in my mid 20s. I just told myself that I refuse to lose to the weaker part of myself and got back in shape. I still talk myself through workouts, I still stare at my running shoes and remind myself to push through the hesitation.

When homegirl said ' you cant determine someones health by their looks'!!!!! 😡😡😡 What! I use to work with someone who called themselves a manager that didnt have bottom teeth!!! NO ONE ! Took him seriously..Hell Nah! Im tired of these weirdos ..and why are they always other women ! Its frustrating

My ex wife had weight loss surgery. I met a ton of people that had surgery. A huge factor is the mental aspect. You don't get this big just eating an extra ice cream cone on the weekends. There's unresolved trauma, addiction, and coping mechanisms. These people are messed up mentally, so no wonder they've gaslit themselves and are trying to convince everyone else they're fine.

I agree. I'm 300lbs and it is because I use food as a coping mechanism. I know the issue but it's a challenge to change your whole lifestyle to a healthier one. I hired a trainer 2 months ago, which helps lots. They can focus on the gym for me while I focus on my food.
