Close enough with the KZbin name lol. Appreciate the shout and the conversation, boys! The biggest issue with resealing is definitely with PS3, DS, GameCube, etc where there's just Y-Folds without any kind of security strips. Those are only going to continue to keep getting harder and harder to differentiate between authentic and resealed. Theres nuance with the sealing process that helps with determining (and cgc and wata have said they both feel comfortable with their own methodology for determining) but for the average person, it's tough out there. DS especially. Ugh.

⁠@@pluspixelthe grading companies have seen tens of thousands of sealed games. They have proprietary info from manufacturers and a boatload of examples to cross reference. This argument is no different than vintage sports cards that you’d think can easily be replicated, but the grading companies have it down pat

even if you had the machine they used to seal them back in the day the hinges on the cardboard boxes will still show wear if they were ever opened

Grading video games destroyed the hobby imo. The guys at WATA have no idea about anything. They manipulated the market on lies and is the reason they are getting sued.

Isn’t there a conflict of interest in the grading shenanigans? The people grading the products are the ones creating the illusion that certain items are highly valuable.

It’s only as valuable as people are willing to pay for it. So if someone pays that’s much, then that’s how valuable it is.

yes that was the whole wata games controversy, part owner of wata games is also owner of heritage auctions and heritage auctions was the one that sold that million dollar super mario bros. also heritage still auctions off wata graded games

The grading a sealed game market never really made sense to me. They basically just grade the box and cellophane. You never realistically can grade the actual game inside, where the true value is.

That isn't the true value for a new sealed game but for a used game.

Good discussion. I've had 15 games in at Wata since early October. They all got graded in mid November. One box got shipped right away, the other box didn't ship until yesterday. I'm not sure why that happens.

The proof grading is a scam is the fact you have to pay more if the game has a higher value.. like.. why? Aren't the actions they have to take the same? Grading and casing? Or am I completely wrong here?

Additional insurance and liability is what the added fee is for on very expensive stuff. I also think it's kind of BS, but that's the rationale from these companies.

I sent in 11 games to CGC a month ago they sent back one game last week and the other ten are still listed as “scheduled for grading”. I’d say there has been an increase with submissions. Great topic!

What not is flooding the graded seen getting cases of dead stock and grading the whole lot...I feel like there gonna lose value but the older generation of games will hold and gain in value

The thing I worry about when it comes to gaming and retro collecting in general is the younger generation is not gonna care about retro gaming which will I believe tank the market….just collect on a budget people and never pay market price

CGC says they're experiencing higher volumes because of a promotion they ran back in October. Also, their main grading category is comics, so that most likely takes a majority of their time.

I have never graded anything i own, Just seems pointless. I just buy the cases from grading companies without the grading.

Completely shady that the founder of wata games told you to hand your games in person to get graded, huge conflict of interest. I for one do not trust any grading companies, ALL of them have been exposed for grading fake games, if fake games slip by from everyday people, who knows how many fake games from people they know are they letting pass by too.
