The upside for companies that sell limited quantities of items is that they capitalize on you wanting them more, and it builds FOMO. If everything was made in unlimited supply, we’d care way less and the companies would make less money. As long as that incentive is there, there will always be scalpers
@SyntheticSilverScreenАй бұрын
I see this a lot with kickstarter board games too -- ppl will list games before they've actually shipped
@Popovich16Ай бұрын
The problem companies have with scalpers is there are people that are profiting off of their research and development and everything that goes along with creating new products and sometimes those people are making more money per item than the actual company so they want that money

fun fact with eBay, if you get scammed from the automobile section you can request a refund. BUT only if you follow there rules to the letter. but if you get scammed for a car and follow there rules you can get money back.

It's actually against eBay policy to sell preorders/items they don't have on hand. The problem is eBay doesn't police this very well, and it takes other people to report it. But yeah, you can find this stuff every day because eBay is horrible about enforcing this kind of stuff, but you can report those listing and I wish more people did.

Yeah selling consoles on ebay before they even release is something that Supreme/Palace and sneakerheads do. It's probably the same people. A lot of that clothing isn't as popular anymore so they hopped onto the next thing to resell. Some of them even use bot crawlers to do automatic checkout on sites when the items go live, making it harder for real people to buy things before they sell out.

eBay from what I understand are looking for hype generation, people browsing their platform and coming back to do purchases. Pre-orders generate interest which means that people often do a "while I am here, let me buy..." which means that eBay also has repeat customers based around pre-orders and FOMO. They will get their cut, and while a failed order does generate cost for them (they don't see it as loss), there are enough successful orders and buyers coming in to keep this going. There are also no legal consequences for them as they are not the seller, they are simply a platform to allow buyers and sellers to meet in their marketplace.

What’s the difference in scalping and picking up games or anything at a swap meet or a flew market for half of what the market says it’s worth ? It’s about supply and demand, if the demand wasn’t there then there would be no profit

Within the next few days I'm gonna bow to the scalpers as I'm after a plush that's super limited and all of what's online is ebay or in private collections , its amazing what we will do to get certain items😂
I was a scalper for a long time. The way I think of it to make me feel better is if i don't do it someone else will. I would rather be scalping and have the items i like for retail and sell the extra to others then have to pay for the resell price. But when I do get a lot of good items I do help my friends and give them crazy discounts sometimes on what i get. There is no good way to get rid of scalpers. Travis scott shirts do a pre order they don't get to you for like 3 months but when they get here they still resell for a little extra. Raffles are the only way to really get rid of scalpers but even then I can have everyone I know and an extra account enter. Even with new security measures to detect bots someone will make a better bot or an update. Only way I have seen scalpers get totally screwed was when some in person sneaker releases make you wear the sneaker out of the store so you can't sell them as new.
