Schumacher is definitely my EFL manager of the season. What he’s done is nothing short of extraordinary. No massive transfer fees, just great recruitment, great coaching and it seems a great ownership group.

An amazing season Ben what can I say! Genuinely been phenomenal and Steven Schumacher is now officially confirmed a club legend after clinching promotion to back to where we belong after 13 years of hurt and pain, this time 10 years ago we stayed up from going into the National League and nearly even out of business 😭 I’m so proud of how far the club has come and hopefully we will rise again! Brighton and Brentford are the two teams I look at that I hope Argyle will follow on their footsteps for! The Premier League (in future), we’re coming for you!!!!!!! Maybe I'd add a 6th reason to your excellent list which somewhat extends the continuity theme. Argyle are an excellent run club, from Simon Hallett down. There's a feel not unlike Brentford, Brighton, Bournemouth to it; although I'll settle for mid table consolidation in the Championship next season.

Nice piece - thanks and well done to ITFC too, the best side we saw at Home Park this season. I've been lucky enough to experience a few Argyle promotions, but this has been the best using whatever metric you care to throw at it. The style of football has been great to watch, and whilst our gunslinger style has left us open to the occasional slip (Wembley is a great example), we have always shown fantastic character to bounce back quickly and didn't suffer back to back defeats all season. Losing Cooper after losing Whittaker would be enough to floor most teams, but once again our resilience and faith in the sqaud shone through. I am so proud of the way the club continues to progress both on and off the pitch, a great team of people backing up a great team on the pitch.

I've followed Argyle since the day I watched them beat Santos in 1973. And I can only congratulate Steven Schumacher and the boys for their stellar season. It was disappointing to see there fade in the latter part of last season. But the steel they showed this season was amazing. The Papa Johns final was a huge shame as I thought we might finally win a trophy, but alas. Regarding next season, obviously it is a big step up for Argyle, they haven't been in the division for a long while. A stay in the Championship would for me be a success next year.

Thanks, Ben, I've been quietly following you all season, and despite your elegance to Ipswich, you have produced a mature and impartial summary of league one throughout the season. Arguably, the best two teams have achieved automatic promotion with Sheffield Wednesday just missing out. The playoffs will be interesting to watch, personally, I hope SW make it, but the way Bolton performed at Wembley, anything can happen.

10 years ago i was at Rochdale, and because of results elsewhere, saw us stumble over the line to keep our league status. Yesterday i couldn't get a ticket, delighted because it means we are on the up. The journey the whole club has been on has been intense and thankfully has ended with a fairytale finish. Love this review. As an Argyle fan, it's great to hear the thoughts of fans from other clubs. I agree with the review, Schumacher and all the staff behind the scenes really do have their heads screwed on. Will not be easy in the Championship and we will be favourites to go down, but with a bit of luck, more good use of the loan market and some good transfer in the summer, I have faith in the boys that we can keep ourselves safe. The pool of loan players available should expand greatly with the promotion too - COYG

We are very good at learning the right lessons. Our weak defence in 2020/21 was fixed for last season, our lack of squad depth was fixed this time. I don’t know how we’ll handle the step up, but it’s an amazing problem to have when we faced non-league oblivion a decade ago

I knew when we came back from 2-0 down away at Derby to win 3-2 that this team was capable of something special. The Plymouth of old would have lost that game 4-0. Pushed all the way by Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley right to the end. It has been a fascinating season.

After 23 years of hell with my beloved Sheffield Wednesday I can’t watch Early 1990s 4 major cup finals Europe top tier football from 1984 till 2000 Apart from two close calls Under Carlos we’ve done nothing most expensive tickets prices and still average 26k in league one we’ve sold out again for derby last game of season We had it but there are seven windows games. We bottled it chucked it away. Sheffield United have never been 2 leagues above us in all of my lifetime When growing up Swfc was always Sheffield number one Team club still the biggest club in Sheffield for me But I’m deadinh the Playoffs All the best from Sheffield We bottled it for sure

I would add that schumacher has admitted in his post match press conference that his pre season target was 75 points and the play offs. Which they reviewd mid season as it was obvious that they were going to beat that figure. So they then changed their target to automatic promotion. They also did a review at the end of last season on.their failure. Tactically too predictable and the squad running out of legs at the end of the season were the 2 reasons given. So firstly he switched tactics from the bog standard 3142 which ryan lowe favoured to 3 vastly different ones. Most used was the 3421 with 2 no 10s employed which could morph into a 3412 and occasionaly he would use a flat back4 and a 442. Secondly to address the player workload he strengthened the squad and rotated all the players in it. Even if they had played well or scored a goal in the previous game. He was accused by many fans of too much tinkering with his constant differing team selections. But all the players bought into it and supported each other fantastically. Thats where the fightbackability you mentioned comes from. So he may well have stumbled across a better way of winning games by a rotating squad method instead of the traditional way of just picking your best 11? Anyways this is fantastic for the club and city of plymouth. Been supporting them since the mid 60s when they were an established 2nd tier team. Very rarely since then have we regained that position and when we have, we have struggled as there just isnt the money/industry down here to sustain it. Congratulations and good luck to your tractor boys on their richly deserved promotion. Which is the most important thing for both clubs. Albeit there is still a title to be decided.
