So many great suggestions and ideas in the comments. Be sure to check them out if you are looking to install carpet! Keep them coming guys! I don't like "permanent", so that is why I personally didn't use glue.

It's always a good idea to get the carpet out ahead of time and put it out in the sun to make it easier to work with , sure helped on the couple of carpets that I have put it.

That will work but next time try this it's cheaper. First splash on some rustmorte let it sit overnight wipe it down with a rag and some water let dry. then brush on a coat of rostellum rust primer let dry overnight then topcoat with any oil base enamel and your done with paint. now to fill the holes cut a piece of old window screen and smear with silicone on both sides and cover the holes. Did mine 7 years ago and they are still good. Also try to find the dented can section in the store, it doesn't matter what color you'll see it anyway.

My experience with por 15 is the light rust that it's painted on breaks away over time. causes it to pull away from the metal in pockets which hold condensation and rot the metal away faster but everyone's experience is different good luck and good job.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Hopefully it holds a bit for us!

Interesting install. I've used many, many sets of carpets from ACC over the years and they're basically the only game around. Better quality now than they used to be. First thing you should have done was take that carpet out of the box when you got it and laid it out to relax. The longer the better and use some of that AZ sun. The other reason it's loose around the tunnel is the front carpet was set too far back. It should come up past the steering column and gas pedal. If you look at the floor pan there is a round bulge on the left side of the tunnel for a floor shift. This needs to align with the corresponding indent in the carpet. That molded heel pad is too far back. Go down to Noeggy to get the upholstery done. Good work and cheap. Don't know where you're at, might be worth thinking about. I was real pleased with the work I had done there.

It was about to be pulled from under the rear seat, so I couldn't have come much further forward.

@@318willrun I heard of that problem sometimes. Sounds like it was cut short at the plant. I've ordered the last few sets from Stock Interiors with great customer support. Most of the sets I got had 6-12" of overlap. Carpet has gone up a lot because it's made with petrochemicals.

Do you use the foil under the carpet? To help keep the hear down ? Looks good. Just put some of the loop back carpet covers on your seats till the others com in. 👍

Thank you! I didn't put anything under the carpet. I know I'm with the minority on that, but I don't like anything under the carpet.

@@318willrun They have an option for mastic backing on the carpet. It's really worth it because the carpet lays out so much nicer and it cuts down on the noise and heat. Especially if you peel off that re-processed rag padding. Another benefit is that it waterproofs the carpet. Water won't pass through it and get to the floor.

Cool repair... I would have treated the floor with phosphoric acid....aka concrete prep from home depot $20 a gallon turns the rust into inert iron phosphate... I like POR15 for some things but I have had a lot of failures using it in the long term a consequenc of never selling cars off......so I go self etching primer which by the way has phosphoric acid as the etch part. And is more forgiving on the prep....then a good rust guard enamel...with lizard skin thermal coating makes for a quiet comfortable car....as far as RTV your better off going all JB weld, your weakest link in that repair is the RTV I've have seen lots of cars with it on they always rust under the RTV no matter how well they pretreated it. Like I said the ACC carpet was just ok....to horrible in two of my projects yours came out better than most I'm glad your happy with it. You can't get a seat cover from one of the mopar suppliers? And you can buy the seat foam at upholstery supply online too... and glue and repair yours you can use a electric knife from the kitchen to cut and shape it...old seats are good for getting spare springs and small parts from as well.

Thanks for sharing tips on alternate solutions to POR-15! I figure if the front floors decay much more over the next 10 years, then it's time to just replace the fronts. Probably to do the job "right", I would have replaced them now just for cleaner sheet metal. The rest of the floors are super!

@@318willrun POR15's Achilles heel is its depends on the surface Prep there are more affordable and easier to use products available... Same as evaporust cost vs value and performance is what kills these two products....and by the way their POR patch is one of their best products that I use all the time.
@ron18362 жыл бұрын
You should have maybe ground that rust off the floor better. When I did mine I didn't get it perfect but I got it down to a fair amount of bare metal. I would think that would be even more important with the job weld. Another thing I did was scrape all the peeling seem sealer out and redone it. Tubes of seam sealer for a caulk gun weren't cheap if I recall.

1. A little carpet adhesive goes a long way when installing new carpet. 2. POR-15 and ACC are both the Mack Daddy of their respective fields. Good choices! 3. The front seat reskinnin'? You can do that yourself, trust me. You'll get a case of "hog ring pliers fingers" from it, but it's not that difficult a job honestly. Sort of like wrestling a giant stuffed alligator - with a steel skeleton. It's probably going to be more difficult to find the materials, honestly. Get at it! - Ed on the Ridge

I agree on carpet adhesive! Not sure I'm quite done under there so I didn't use it! Great description of covering the seat !!!!!! 😂

Good stuff! You know I like the POR patch for doing holes in floors. I use some window screen and get after it. You have a good way to go about it. I’d bet it lasts another 20 years!

POR patch would have worked great as well! I know the front floors were heavily pitted and replacing them would be best. But were happy with the progress! Thanks for watching!

He Tim, love the channel brother! You always have great content and share real world know how that working guys can relate to! The Duster's floor and carpet looks 100% better, one tip I wanted to interject is concerning the POR-15 product which I also use and have used on all my resto's for years. Make sure (not to shake the can only stir it), because it creates air bubbles in the product. For what you are doing it won't make too much difference but the remaining product you have might be compromised faster than it would normally. I'm not sure if you saw this in the fine print on the can. Another tip that's really helpful- is to take a plastic Wal-mart sack and place over the can opening before placing the lid on to help keep from bonding shut. Then I place the remainder in the back of the refrigerator and it'll keep longer that way. Watch for those booger stealing bugs, they'll rob all your gold! Blessings to you and the Mrs., take care brother. :)
