This car saved my life a couple years ago. Head on crash with a pickup truck, I walked away with not a scratch. Amazing engineering for that age.

these were fine cars, indeed. not far removed from the superb cars Mopar built in the 60's. an occasional quality control issue here or there, but yeah, solid vehicle. i took down a 4x4 road sign post with the door on my 71 Satellite when i slid off the rd bc black ice. hit it sliding sideways at about 40 mph, nice dent, but the door worked fine, glass did not break. you're story is not a limited occurrence in a vintage Chrysler made car..legions have been spared serious injury or death, bc their tag line at the time was, 'Extra Care In Engineering' and it was for real.

Had one of these cars. A 4 Dr Volare Premier. Slant 6. A great car. Got excellent service.

Lol How many restarts did you need to get it running when cold? My teacher's brother had a 2 door Volare. He kept it going by letting it sit for 10 minutes to warm up LOL.

toyoscio I don’t recall ever restarting that car. It was always tuned good. Had a good carb on it too.

How many yrs u had your 76 Plymouth running ?

it hurts to see but having owned both an 80 Aspen coupe and an 80 Volare sedan I can attest to the durability of these cars in a collision. My current daily is the sedan which had been hit by a city dump truck club 30 mph

at what speed was this test? on the door, i think it reads '35 mph'. the bumpers on those cars would take 10 mph with nil/no dmg to it or the car..(10 mph today is probably a total loss, bc paint, fascia, airbags..huge money!) 35 mph, ill take that crash in a volare before anything made since 2000, or so.. except! as a rear seat passenger, bc there was no rear seat belts in pass. cars back then..at least not domestics as far as i know. they can be retrofitted. this was no air bags, just a solid car..looks like they had the crumple zone thing down just fine, back then at Chrysler. watch the chassis cam shots. newer vehicles are failing at partial overlap tests, with the ultra thin sheet metal, crumple zone design run amok.

Car held up really well but the passngers might have sustained som bad head injuries
@Impactjunky7 жыл бұрын
Driver HIC was acceptable, passenger was not. That means the driver would suffer minor injuries and the passenger would likely need medical attention. That's odd because usually the driver gets hurt worse than the passenger.

No engine in the car. Invalid test procedure.

How do you figure? You can clearly see the oil pan above the plate for their test equipment. You can see the oil pan next to the exhaust, and in front of the transmission.

Clearly has an engine. I know because I spent many hours under my Aspen coupe modifying it and ummm , yup, that's a engine up there.😜

no engine would have made the crash damage even worse
