All this happened under the tory government - and the Kensington tory council - and if they had still been power you would NOT have had a comprehensive and effective reply like this. Now watch the tories try to make it Starmer's fault! This response was heartfelt and pro-active. I voted for Starmer in July, and very glad that I did - I was a lifelong tory voter before that.

The former Tory government constantly dodged and now the Labour government is doing the same dodging of their own responsibility for the grenfell tower fire, because local authorities (including LABOUR councils) were instrumental in approving the building construction of similar projects throughout the U.K. using the same cladding. They (the local authorities many of them LABOUR ) should be forced to pay the lions share of the cost of replacement construction of the faulty cladding and ridiculous chimney caused by the lack of floor stops. The rest of the cost must be laid at the feet of the developers concerned and not to the charge of leaseholders. This is a government (and uniparty) WHITEWASH as usual accompanied by endless delay so that the guilty parties can escape the cost. When will the costs be paid so repair can happen? When will the guilty parties be charged and put on trial? I can tell you, never, WHEN HELL FREEZES OVER.

This goes all the way back to 1991. John Major, this goes through several Tory and Labour government. It is a failure of the state as a whole collectively. . But this issue will not be address unless we hold the civil service, minsters, local government, and regulators of the John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Theresa May governments accountable. There is lots of blame to go around, I can't say where the blame lies, or where more of blame lies then less, but those operating under this time (from 1991 - 2017) each had a chance and failed to protect people. This is what is meant by systemic.

@@dopiaza2006 Starmer continues to delay any resolution of the lethal cladding issue because labour councils all across the U.K. approved the very same lethal construction so that they are liable to pay for the removal and refurb which is in the millions. Liverpool has buildings with exactly the same cladding, but frankly it’s all across the U.K. Starmers mob and the Tories don’t want to pay or any of their mates to go to prison so they will delay for ever and never pay.
