I loved the PMC Twenty26 my fave audiophile speakers esp when driven by the Pass XA25. But my MB2SE eclipse them… esp bass as well and over all dynamics.

very nice Review. British Hi-Fi ist very popular in germany. Top brand is definitely B&W. What do you think about B&W 804? This speaker ist the top selling speaker in this price range.

Spikes have been used by the HiFi industry since the early 80's as a cost effective way of creating a degree of isolation. However studios have been using alternative supports for monitors for a long time now & the enthusiast should experiment with supports as room accoustics & flooring play their part aswell.

spikes don't give isolation. spikes cause coupling. increasing point weight and stability

PMC's photos made no sense to me-- their room layouts were unrealistic. Great review as usual.

Nice review 😊 Though in audio review vogue, I would much prefer that the breaker music was not mixed much hotter than the narration.

Couldn't help imagining those exposed lower front corners getting damaged by the Hoover😮 Easily fixed with the Townsend or just by moving the feet forward ... 🎶😉🎶 Thanks for the Aziza Brahim music recommendation. Vicariously enjoying through my 1999 Rega Naos TLs. Will add her to my desert music/Tinariwen playlist😊

Nice review Paul. I listened to your musings from beginning to end whilst shaking my head at the same time. Firstly I would never ever see myself forking out that amount of cash for a pair of anything. Secondly it absolutely beggars belief that they would tack inferior, albeit aesthetically pleasing, stands to these state of the art beauties. Then I idly checked the Stack audio supports and immediately switched off. That price again. Ah no I’m afraid I’m just not having it. My own doddery Castle Howard’s going on 30 years making music will always give me the biggest musical hug ever 😊
@TheAudiophileMan
@TheAudiophileMan Жыл бұрын
And a pair of Howard’s are very nice indeed, Dermot. Saying that, I’m sure PMC have speakers to fit all budgets ;) As for the feet, as I said in the video, I’m not having a go at PMC because most brands have the same issue. As do amplifier brands with their mains cables, turntable brands with their platter mats, etc. Even so, I thought I’d mention the upgrade here as I’m in the midst of reviewing the Stack Audio feet. They can be applied to most designs though, as I say. I also wanted to show that speakers like this can indeed be upgraded.

Interesting Dermot, I have Castle Howard S2's and also PMC Twenty24's (greedy I know). Love them both for different things - the soundstage and warmth from the Castles, especially on vocal tracks is just stunning, but the PMCs have detail that is incomparable to the old Castles, working really well with Jazz, Blues and anything upbeat. Castles for a chilled listening session and a glass of something, PMCs for day to day listening. (My PMC were bought used for around 1500 pounds BTW)

I would never pay that much for speakers neitther, and Paul does review products in all price ranges. When deciding just budget the price, then decide what size speakers and go listen to speakers in your local store.

I have the 23 and love them. The 26 are so much more money ? I wish you would review the 24s they might be enough of an upgrade for me and so much less cash. I wonder how close the 24 are to the 26s? PS the Oldfield cut is great thanks for highlighting it.

Haven't heard 24 & 26 side by side, but my understanding is that 24 is very close in terms of bass. However 26 is 3 way speaker and adds more control and refined sound especially on vocals. Used to have 23i and loved those as well, but there is no doubt that 26i is better. I got a good deal and decided to go for it.

How happy am I for you to review these beasts from the Biggleswade company (near my home town of Luton) in Bedfordshire, they would be my dream speakers. But I am satisfied with my Jean-Marie Reynaud Euterpe Supreme speakers for the moment, well at least until I save £10k for the PMC's...(some chance) - have you ever reviewed JMR speakers from France Paul? 🤔

@@TheAudiophileMan Paul.....thanks for replying, JMR are astounding....but since... You know us 'Paul Rigsby devotees' often say, "I wonder what Paul would think of this 🤔"...well, a friend told me he had invested in a pair of Active Room Neutralizer's (ARN) by ByBee. If you review these, I will contribute to your Patreon page for sure, not a bribe but a token of appreciation and esteemed gratitude. These little white boxes you plug in and place behind your speakers; revolutionary or the snakiest snakeoil product ever to grace the hifi market, please review.......please......on knees. I've always been the scribbler to review the weird and wonderful - and I've often been surprised at the sonic improvements. So I have no issues but it looks like you have to get your soldering iron out? My expertise falls over right there, I'm afraid. I'd end up soldering my eye lids to the ceiling, if I attempted that. So, unless there's a ready-fitted solution...?

Having tried with my supposedly more efficient twenty 26, they need a lot more power to really wake up. I've moved from 190 W devialet and a 160 W parasound halo to 100 W krell class A to a highly efficient class D Nurprime STA-9 mono blocks of 295 W each in bridged mode. This really got the PMC's singing, despite being the cheapest amp in the foray. I presently use Audio-GD Master 2H mono blocks, and these have been the best match so far. Effortless power, stunning dynamics, with a thick fat tone that overcame the lean presentation of my PMC's. So from my experience, PMC's sound alright anywhere from 50 W, but to hear them at their best, we really need to clock above 250 W. Probably why PMC demoed their speakers with the Bryston's apart from having the Bryston dealership. Just my 2 cents.
@Dee.J.Mogfry
@Dee.J.Mogfry 6 ай бұрын
Class A is different to class D...its also more efficient as regards it doesn't heat up as much.... It's always best to run near the power of the speaker... Most clas A amp are class A+B any way... Pure class A aka valve is also very different power...it also comes down to where the manufacturers take the reading of the RMS as well...

I have a pair of Wharfedale EVO 4.4's and can attest that soft-dome midranges are gorgeous and a secret sauce that is too little seen. Maybe they're not the best for blasting hard rock VERY loud, but they do everything else lovely (and rock well too). I do not care for the heavy mesh in front of the mid and tweet in these tho... (also, the break music is a bit loud, just fyi).
