I have a crapy laptop with a 512mb graphics card that runs FSX SE maxed out on ultra at 45fps meanwhile that same laptop got 7fps on the boxed version....the Steam version of FSX IS AMAZINGLY OPTIMIZED! :)

Hello Jordan thank you for your videos they are very VERY good. Most of all thank you for being so patient and remianing cordial with some of the aggresive opnions some have posted. I am saddened and appaled by some of the agressive and accusastional comments Pete Dowson and you have recieved. After reading many post and I can not wait to try FSX Steam. I'm not looking forward to reinstalling all my addons as I have FSX running and looking very nice with the help of Steve DX10 fixer, but I have a lot of VAS issues mainly with PMDG777 so FSX Steam here I come.

Hey man nice videos. My FSX steam edition had the old OOM error and CTD when I tried this plane. Was taking off from (standard FSX) Heathrow London with only ORBX England installed. I was quite shocked!

+renton1664 ORBX England is notorious for OOM's. It is really intended for low and slow flying and not for jets.

I did see occasional stutters on the flight but overall not a bad frame rate average for the settings you have. On a side note, KLAX has strict noise abatement rules and I've never seen aircraft departing and landing on runways 6L, 6R, 7L, and 7R.

Great video! Nice Flight! I own both the PC install version and the steam and I never seen any improvements! Both my computers have the same specs and I seen pretty much the same quality with slidesr set to max! I never had any issues with my PC installed version because most errors are caused because of user errors or constant installing and un-installing addons. I pull in the same frame rates from both installs and that is about about 50-65fps with a large amount of scenery addons. I have never had any issues with long haul flights from the US to Europe. I think the only issue I ever had was when there was a surge from the power company and then my PC restarted. :) MSI -B85M-G43MB Intel i5 4670 3.4GHZ G-Skill DDR3- 1600 16BG GTX760 4GB Crucial MMX SSD (2)Seagate 1TB Drives The only difference I seen between the Steam Version and the old PC install version is now you have multiplayer back and you never have to worry about losing your disks and activation hassles. Awesome work man! In what order did you install your add ons? I have just finished building my pc and and Im about to install FSX SE. Biggest concern i have is order of add ons. My rig is 4790k OC to 4.7ghz 16gb ram (1866) gigabyte GTX 970 windows 7 pro. Add ons I have FTC global base + vector FS pilot mesh and bunch of add on airports. For textures i have REX + OD, soft clouds and ASN . Any help would be appreciated.

After watching your video's I have decided to convert from FSX to FSX:SE. I did try P3D v2 but found that to be more like a bad animated film with terrible frame rates. Got a couple of questions for you though. Have you made any changes to the FSX config file, if so which ones and have you found any addons that do not want to play nicely with the steam edition. I know ASN had problems but the new beta seems to have fixed that, also AES does not work due to a problem with Vistamara, but apart from them is there anything else?

Hey Jordan, look out for the aerofly FS 2 once its released. Maxed out 60FPS (VS) You won't get any system depth yet but the graphics are far beyond FSX capabilities and also are better than X-Plane graphics :D Also very nice flight model.

Awesome! Yes, I am very excited, too. The aerofly surely has great potential. Can't wait to see ILSes, VORs, Runway lights, PAPIs and also clickspots, which might come in the next update. The clickspots are key to unlocking unlimited user inputs and thus enabling us free developers to create amazing aircraft with a lot of system depth. Btw. if you already have the aerofly FS, I have a few free add-on aircaft on my personal webpage for download. www.aerofly-sim.de/ Once we get those clickspots though, we really can go nuts with the functionallity. Currently we "only" got canopy opening and closing and engine start, and fireing missiles we also got to work. But that all needs a joystick button so far. And maybe we will be able to communicate with the "outside world" and send data to the sim, that would be another major key to give us MCDUs, FMSes and so on or to simulate the wear of the aircraft like A2A does.

you know, seeing fsx on steam with x64 and currently 5bugs (euro for me) im actually considering buying it. Sounds good! I've been a flight simmer since MSFS98. With that being said I've played all of them since then. As you mentioned and what so many other simmers have mentioned FSX (boxed version) was a nightmare. I was highly surprised at the performance I received from the Steam Edition also. I have a few addons and I'm able to run the sim at max settings. Looking at your videos has encouraged me to get back into flight simulators, and I appreciate you for that. Based upon this video I will be giving PMDG 777 a shot in the very near future. Last night I purchased the Rex 4 texture package. Tonight I will purchase the DX10 fixer. Thanks for answering the AI traffic question also. I've used WofAI for fs9 in the past, I had trouble here and there with it. I will look at some videos here on KZbin and give it another shot.

Should have said that at the moment I only have the 737NGX of which the update is still to come. I've opened up an account with PMDG with the though of purchasing the 777-200LR and now I see there is a 300ER upgrade too. But I will also purchase the 747 and MD11. Now I don't know if and when these will be released with the Steam installers. There is nothing on PMDG store to suggest anything to do with Steam compatibility. My 737NGX was purchased from GameSeek here in the UK. I asked a question on the Avsim PMDG forum and was told when asked where I could get the installer and was told ask the place where it was purchased. That made it even more worse because of the fact that I don't as yet possess a copy of 777. All terribly mixed up isn't it?

For the sake of clarity, I saw a video from Frooglesim where he said PMDG and Active Sky Next does not work with Steam Edition. Has this been fixed or worked around? tasev1 Bare in mind the ASN version that works with FSX/FSX-SE/P3D is in Beta, so expect some issues. I'm mostly getting periodic "ASN can not control ambient weather parameters" freezing the weather in it's current state. Doesn't always happen though.

tf51d If you are having problems with "ASN can not control ambient weather parameters", go to the FSX folder and look for the SDK folder, in there under "Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces" you will find the old simconnect installers. Install all of these and it should fix the problem.

***** Yeah installed all the simconnect's the x-pack and the legacy versions. Excluded the apps in my AV and firewall, but still get periodic connections issue. Usually if I can get through the first few minutes after loading the flight it will remain connected. When it does drop it's usually shortly after loading the flight.

What type of computer are you using. I used to have fsx but could not get the computer to work well. A lot of snagging. (Im not real computer savy) loved to play but did not work quite right.

There are a few :) If you have windows 10 get the Saitek x52 Pro. I bought one when i had Win 7 64bit and the drivers where crap. Just updated to win 10 and everything works super. Also look into Thrustmaster products they i think have the best support and safe Driver installations. Then get TrackIR 5 seriously a good experience ;)))

On my pmdg 777 whenever I put in a flight route, it always says navigation data out of date. What does that mean?

+Shelton Ponder II It just means your navigation data is old. It should not hinder you from getting accurate info unless the is seriously out of date.

I'm confused.....I know dovetail fixed some basic bugs with FSX before releasing steam edition, but as far as I know, they haven't optimized the code or addressed memory/performance issues. Is it possible that you are simply seeing a placebo effect from a fresh install?

***** Not disagreeing that there are HUGE performance gains in Steam Edition, and it's clear there has been something that has resolved the long-standing OOM errors. The only memory fix in the January update was "• Settings: Resolved - HIGHMEMFIX was enabled by default but could very rarely be disabled at load time." I would guess this coupled with the recompile as mentioned by Pete Dawson might actually be what has resolved most of the OOM issues. Their recent press release also made it clear they are "only licenced to modify the simulator in order to make it Steam compatible." facebook.com/fsxinsider/posts/1546163298969253:0 Any bugfixes in the core sim are up to Microsoft. What will really be interesting is if Microsoft dedicates any development resources for this task despite the closing of ACES. Either way, regardless of what's going on under the hood, it's definitely running amazingly better. I'm just waiting on ASN to be compatible before I make the jump completely.
