FSX Steam has the bufferpools and highmem tweak already in. It's a more stable platform so you do not need many tweaks.

I heard a story you told about a friend who was a real world pilot and now could no longer fly because of medical reasons, I also was a real world pilot that can no longer fly for same reason. This leaves an empty hole. I really liked your suggestion about trying Flight Sim, i am about to build a new rig and build a Flight Sim, just have concerns with getting FSX:SE to work with new system running windows 10. ken ko Steam Edition works with Windows 10. However, I would suggest investing in P3D, as it's a newer sim with FSX's base code, and it just looks so much better.

Thanks for the video man. I'm gonna try a couple things you showed here. I have a new PC a few months ago with a nice i7, gtx 1070, 16gb ram, etc. and running basic orbx stuff plus ASN and PMDG 737 and it runs pretty poopy but I haven't spent time tweaking it. Hi Jordan, Just wanted to say thanks for this video and also the one you published on "10 Reasons FSX-SE is better than FSX. I have been limping along with my old and tired FSX trying to squeeze out every ounce of performance I could.Funny story... I have about 90 FSX videos posted on the FSX MaNiA KZbin channel. I've been called out by a couple of comments for over using the phrase "go ahead"... i.e., "let's go ahead and activate the approach". The last videos I published were a 3 part series on the Carenado TBM 850. I did my level best to not say "go ahead", but still ended up saying it a half dozen times or more. It's just the way I talk. My subscribers encouraging as always left positive comments saying they didn't care and I should "go ahead" and upload more videos. One of the commenters mentioned that "Jordan King uses the same phrase and he is doing just fine on his channel". I popped into your channel and checked out a few of your videos. After viewing this video I reluctantly decided to give FSX-SE a go while maintaining a firm grip on poor old FSX. I now have the Steam version fully installed along with Orbx, AS16, Rex, etc.. It took the better part of yesterday to set everything up... all in all a fairly smooth install.I took a fully loaded maxed out slider flight this morning in A2A's Cherokee 180. Frame rates were in the 70 to 100 range and the sim ran smooth as silk. I hereby declare boxed FSX is dead to me ;)I really like the work your doing on your channel. Another excellent video, talking about Dx10, dont you miss the real time cockpit shadows? I recently purchased the dx10 fixer but now I'm having issues trying to set fsx to fullscreen, it just won't work if my secondary monitor is plugged to my computer, thought about going back to DX9, but I think I will really miss the shadowing.

Hi Jordan, Just wanted to get your imput, I was recently applying some tweaks with Nvidia inspector, and fsx.cfg (Affinity mask 14, 84, 256) and my game got into this weird crazy thing where it used the CPU to about 90% but yet still only accomplishing 10-15 FPS.(Im not high in VAS either, still hovering around the 2k mark in VAS) Now this is in SunSkyJet's KPHL with scaled back settings, and I'm running a mid range system (i7 3770 @ 3.4GHz, GTX 680mx, 8GB ram, 64bit windows 7) I just don't understand how I'm getting such poor FPS. I'm frustrated because I payed a lot of money for the system that I have and I want to use it to its full potential. NOTE: I understand that FSX is a finicky sim, which randomly does strange things but this doesn't make sense! I would really appreciate how/why I am getting such poor frames. Hello, I real enjoy your videos - very informative and professional! You seem to know a LOT about this side of things so... Question: What can you advise me about Orbx migration update? I run FSX SE, REX direct, A2A 182, and everything was working fine but I wanted airports updated in SoCal coz I just fly using PilotEdge. So I bought Orbx FTX Gold SoCal (no global base/vector yet) and it immediately said update available - it was huge and I waited a day. Before the update, things looked great, KSNA updated to 20L/R, I was pleased as things seemed smooth, not a huge hit to fps, life was good. Then the next day I updated ORBX, it forced me to accepted migration - I haven't been able to use FSX SE since without it completely freezing, glitching, crashing...it loads duplicate ground tiles while flying, water tiles that render in later as ground - a mess. Any suggestions? I tried Orbx "support" but seemingly non existent for FTX gold products. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Jordan, I tried bringing up my LOD radius from 4.5 to 8.5 in the aircraft.cfg. Seemed to work fine, though the difference was negligible to my untrained eyes. But the more important point is that after setting it there, running the sim at that number, and then turning it off; the LOD radius reverted back to 4.5 in the aircraft.cfg file. My point being that it doesn't appear to be able to hold that value. Do you have the same problem? Thanks for your advice and for posting your videos.

Hi Jordan, I would like to know the best way to remove FSX box and install the new Steam version of FSX. Can you just uninstall FSX box version and then download the Steam addition. Then after familiarizing myself with it, decided to Up my game yesterday by purchasing Rex4 and Trees HD. Do I have to do anything special to activate these add-on's to run with the base game? +Jay Rhee Hey Jay. Once you install it you are good to go. Just run the installers and for REX you will have to open the program and select the clouds and textures you would like to load. Once you do that once, you are good to go!

Jordan, Thanks for your excellent videos. They are by far the best in explaining how to get started. I'm brand new to flight sims, have purchased all equip and plan on using FSX:SE exclusively for now. Much of the reading I've found online recommends installing FSX on a separate drive from OS drive, but then again that was for the boxed version. I noticed in comments that you use default settings with no problems. With FSX:SE, is there any advantages to using a separate drive for sim and addons or is it just as well to load on OS drive with default settings? My system is I7 3939k @4.0, 1 970, 1tb ssd, 1 240 mgb ssd, 16gb mem @1600 mhz. I do plan on using all your recommened payware for scenery. My whole goal is to use study level a/c in as realistic an environment as my machine can generate. Thanks in advance for any advice you or your community can help me with. Don

+Donald Smith Hey Donald. The separate drive thing really came about in the Windows XP and Windows 7 days when UAC would be over aggressive on permissions within windows for certain programs. If you are using SP1 of Windows 7 or newer, the UAC issues have largely been fixed so you dont need to move it to another harddrive unless you have some serious fragmentation issues with an old mechanical harddrive. If you have an SSD, its really a non-issue.

Great Video.. I have a Question.. Have not been into fsx for 5 years or so, want to get back into it.. I have never purchased add ons but probably will now.. I have the original deluxe edition with service pack 1 and 2 installed on win 8.1, 5820k, TitanX, I am trying to run in 4k. When it launches only the upper left quadrant of the screen is utilized until I click into the quadrant that fsx is displayed, then it goes to full screen. Almost like its displaying 1920 x 1080, until I click then it stretches the screen to 4k. Is this normal? Any out of the box config file settings I should be making to play in 4k? Is Steam FSX better graphically out of the box than the original Deluxe FSX? Thanks for help..

+Stuart Scott , Hi mate,it depends what do you want to start 1st with, example : if clouds and runway textures replacements? it will be (REX4 texture direct) software,and for globally scenery replacement (FTX GLOBAL by ORBX),but keep in mind it's expencieve,and then you should decide which part of the world you would fly mostly,if inside Europe you better have (FTX Open LC EU)this is a open landscape texture,meaning(no pop up textures and more draw distance and it's like photo real sceneryfor whole the Europe.for more info for FTX products visit their website(orbxdirect.com)and last but not least the aircrafts here comes the crazy choices :) ,but better you post your pc specs mate.and for your question above ,the answer is for that :you can run everything together without having any issues.

Hi JK I have every addon you can get for FSX .Looking at increasing FPS. Using 3 27 inch monitors sitting in the PMDG NGX at FlyTAMPA Sydney airport I get in the cockpit around 23 to 25 FPS. My limiter is set at 31FPS with in FSX and once in the air I'm sitting on that until active sky introduces some detailed clouds and rough conditions. FPS drop down to around 15FPS . I know I'm asking a lot from my machine I think everyone does when it comes to FSX.So currently I use Samsung SSD s gforce GTX 980 ti G1 card running 3 monitors4770k Haswell CPU running 4.2 hdi80 cooling for CPUMy FSX CONFIG file is finely tuned also to suitShould I upgrade CPU to a 6 core (Intel 5930k Haswell ) knowing FSX is very CPU dependant, or get another GPU and run 3 monitors spreading the load with 2 GTX 980s in SLI modewhich do you think will give me my 30 to 40FPS no matter what I ask it to do in the game?

+dan sal Hey Dan. Unfortunately I think that you have tapped out what FSX was designed to do when it was developed 10 years ago. I would wait for the new DTG Flight Simulator later this year if you really want to make good use of all of that great hardware. Right now FSX and P3D wont be able to take advantage of the great hardware you have.

Have both FSX and Steam FSX. Have problems with steam not making complete aircraft as complete from Steam sold as. FSX seems easier to handle what Windows authored. If you hope that Steam works complete then guess again. Agree, portions are pretty good. But not worth the money paid for....

2 ways of crashing 1 is saying (Fatal ERROR) The other is (closing automatically the application which is FSX by its self) I have tried to fix my FPS per second i made it 30 FPS as it can make a change and lowered the graphics ! ;)

Cool, I'm trying to become a pilot but it's turning out to be the most expensive and difficult thing I've ever done. Must feel good when you actually get to get in the cockpit for the first time.
