PMDG Boeing 777 - Electrical Power Up

This video looks at the Electrical Power Up procedure for the the Boeing 777, as made by PMDG Simulations. In this video, we will take the aircraft from it's cold and dark state and establish electrical power to begin preparing the aircraft for a flight.

So this will be the next award-winning horse in the stable, the good old 777 in warm earthy colour tones flight deck.... And in MSFS of course with 3D-modeled finest sheep wool on the seats like the 737 has. Was this plane retrofitted with a vertical awareness display like the 737 and the A380 has?

I'm not sure if newer 777 models have been retrofitted with it. I don't think this simulation has the vertical display though.

1. Do you need to turn OFF the Battery after turning ON the external power (Press Avail) or leave the battery ON with External Power ON until you're done? OR 2. Do you need to ON the battery first before Starting External Power? Or its okay to just directly start or Press the "AVAIL" sign with battery off. **Situations for line maintenance check only and Cabin Operational check like seats, IFE, etc. **Aircraft from completely off in Line to start power for maintenancen purposes only.

I would need to read the manual to check but I think you would want to have the Battery ON in both cases. Basically the 777 has five main sources of electrical power. These are the Engine Generators, The APU, the deployable Ram Air Turbine (RAT), External Ground Power and the Batteries. If you're on the ground and the ground power system fails, then the power switches over to the batteries. If you have the batteries turned off and you lose ground power, then the aircraft totally loses electrical power and goes "dead". With regards to ground maintenance checks, the maintenance crews will have their own procedures and checklists for testing systems and I don't know how battery usage is managed unfortunately. I've only learned procedures from the pilot perspective.

Thx! With the battery on you should be able to turn up one of the displays to show the APU status (EGT, etc). Is this functional this way?

Just found a real life video of someone starting a 777 APU from cold and dark and he didn't activate any displays or talk about them until the APU Generator kicked into life so I don't think it's possible

Airbus lets you do this. Odd Boeing doesn't. I think I've seen 767 cold and dark do this.

Does seem strange. Another thought I had after making the video is that there wasn't any requirement to do a fire test before starting the APU from cold and dark and this wasn't done in the real life video either.

I know this comment is old, but if you're still interested you should be able to see APU start status and information on the lower center display unit just above the throttles by selecting the "STAT" button on the display select panel. Unsure if that DU is powered with just the battery on though.

Amazing video! I have two problem. When I watch my flight in replay mode It does not show gear, flaps, slats animations. Do you know any software which shows animations? I have thrust master quadrant. Do you know how to set up MCP panel. How can I create shortcuts for HGD, SPD, ALT on the quadrant. Thank you very much in advanced.

I don't know of any software that can do that I'm afraid.

@@Doofer911, Sir, I was watching your Dead Reckoning video, and I had a question. Did you take off from the nearest airport when you were doing a Dead Reckoning from the airports mentioned in the video? I am not sure if you can or can't answer this, but I was watching your FSX tutorials for studying purposes, even though it's for personal.

If I remember correctly I took off from Inverness EGPE, routed towards Wick EGPC and back to Inverness. I'm at work at the moment so I'll check when I get home
