I always see people saying not to use the shovels. I use a short handle shovel from whites and I can tell you that i can cut just as nice a plug with it as I can with a hand trowel. I understand that the shovels can sometimes draw attention, but the way I see it is if you have permission or at a city park where it is legal, then you shouldn't have to walk on egg shells about your tools.

As for city parks in Texas they do not allow you to MD even if there is not an ordinance. I've asked for permissions and have been told at several cities that it isn't allowed as it is city property and anything found there is city property. Just the luck I've had trying to do things the right way. I think its just a matter of educating those who don't understand we aren't out to leave big holes everywhere.

I had a similar situation happen to me this summer. I stopped by an old Victorian era house and received permission from the lady of the house, who was very excited. I was just getting started when a car pulls up. Turned out to be her husband, who asked me what I was doing. I explained that his wife had given me permission. His response? "No she didn't!" He then went inside and I'm sure some yelling probably started, but by that time I was already packed up and driving off. Rats! Sure looked like a promising spot!

Please show detector vdi #s and the digging experience. That's the fun of metal detecting. We don't just want to see old coins the flea markets are full of them. It's like watching a fishing channel and all you get to see is the fish in a bucket. Just my suggestion obviously you do whatever you want it's your Channel and just filming that is a lot easier.

@dhcraft94725 жыл бұрын
The lady was probably scared mongered by someone she had spoken too after giving permission. The only way you can improve the reputation of the hobby is by being polite and if the cops are called see if they would take a look at some of your after digging hole so they can tell the homeowner how respectful you had been to the property.
@scottfirman8 жыл бұрын
As long as the soil is put back in the proper place it will be fine,it doesnt matter how big the plug is. That was rude of someone to give you permission to hunt,then call the cops on you? I only hunt parks, campgrounds with pwrmission,hunting areas and fishing areas. It can be hard to hunt because of all the trash but I have found some awesome stuff and no cops. I was close to getting busyed for tresspassing but calmed the guy down. After wich he let us hunt anyways. We didnt find much because the owner kept following us around. Great find guys!
@PlugMasterFord8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott...I agree on the plugs...if a person takes a small, shallow plug, they are exposing all of the roots...which will cause them to die and turn brown. I've hunted behind others who have left small brown plugs in peoples yards...hard to get permission after that...thanks for watching...Jeff

That woman probably didn't like shovels being used. No doubt felt intimidated by them and had second thoughts. Leave the shovels in the vehicle and use them in fields. I hate to say it,but that is no doubt what was going on in her mind. I did not give you a 'thumbs down',but I suggest using hand trowels or coin poppers in the future if you don't want to be ran off.

@PlugMasterFord7 жыл бұрын
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts. Even though you can't tell where we've been either, the larger shovels were probably a mistake. Jeff
@billrhine34066 жыл бұрын
I could see your plug cuts on the previous holes in the camera after they were filled. You need to do a better job packing it back in. Yes larger shovels are gonna cause problems, before you even begin most of the time. And i wouldn't stay more than an hour on any permission in a small yard like that. If i'm in someones yard i don't cut a plug more than 5 inches across.
@johnlayman21515 жыл бұрын
Why are you digging up a shovel size plug ? You should be using your pinpointer first, then only make a 3 to 4 inch diameter plug. That way you are not destroying those big areas. People do not like that. That's why you are getting run off and the cops called on you. I have been detecting for a year now with a 77 Y/O buddy that has been doing it all his life. We have never had that happen.I only cut a small plug with a knife while in yards,get the item than carefully put the plug back in the hole and press it back in place with my foot. I always get invited to other places.
