Great stuff. These type or class licenced UHF radio services (mine in AU being UHF CB) are so handy (geddit). Should be on everyone's packing checklist for rural and regional stays.

I use them when shopping. My wife is disabled and I don't drive . she will sit in the car and I do the shopping . I will use the radio to ask if she wants things not on the list or we have not put on the list . we can use our phone but the radio's is easy to use so we use them.

My brother and I set up a GMRS HT radio with a few extra large capacity batteries for my elderly mom and dad to use in the event the power or cell phone system goes out. Which it did recently when Hurricane Helene hit North Carolina. My dad was able to have real time communications with my brother that lives about a mile and a half down the road from him.

Always very useful for situations like that or when systems go down especially now 10w ones are now being used on free band ...nice to see you have a good group on 305 CB used to be really great back in mid 70s lots of us cut out teeth on radio there and you will be surprised just how many of us still enjoy the 555 lol ok so there are Muppets on there but trust me there are Muppets everywhere...keep up the good work promoting it .👍

Slightly different topic - but have you ever looked at digital/DMR radios for dark-side PMR446? (Edit: Also if you contribute an update to Google Maps for your address, telling it exactly which building, that can help a lot with deliveries once it propagates.)
@CB-RADIO-UK2 ай бұрын
Hi. I ve not really looked at DMR as it would be on ham freqs ?
@powervolt7482 ай бұрын
The 16 PMR446 analogue frequencies are also allocated for use on DMR tier1. Ham frequencies on 70cms is from 430 to 440Mhz. 446Mhz is not on the amateur bands. Great upload as usual 😊👍
@AlexSwanson-rw7cv2 ай бұрын
@@powervolt748 Ah yes, on a third look it's DMR on the same 16 channels as analogue, and the 32 FDMA channels are different. I take it an unlocked DMR radio would be compatible?
@AlexSwanson-rw7cv2 ай бұрын
@@CB-RADIO-UK As per the other user's comment it seems that the 16 standard "analogue" channels are also allocated for DMR use.
@robustreviews2 ай бұрын
Yes you can use DMR Tier I on PMR446 (type approval etc). Although I think only firms like Motorola make the PMR handsets. All of the ham sets will accept 446 that I’ve come across Allegedly dPMR works better but again I think only Kenwood are invested in that.

Radio is useful if used responsibly. People complain about power levels. Funny how lots of people can't use the same reasoning when it comes to other frequencies which coerced/ forced upon us with or without are knowing. The difference being handhelds or the likes are not connected to the power grid.

Whatever you do, don’t get a pair of cheap chinese UHF/VHF radios and transmit 5-10W on PMR446 with a long antenna for better range. Because that would be illegal.
