SONY A9III Deep Dive: Video by Patrick Murphy-Racey

Much of what has been said so far about the Sony A9III has been about its abilities at shooting action stills but the stacked sensor global shutter inside actually creates more advantages for those shooting video, especially for video shooters who specialize in shooting sports, action, and performance. I do a deep dive in this video on the many advantages of the Sony A9III over just about everything else available.

I agree, it’s not just global shutter that makes this camera ground breaking. It’s the ability of the electronics (processor, memory, throughput) to manage all that data and speed. The thought process and engineering that went into this camera is amazing. I wish I could afford it!

To me it's simply the best hybrid camera ever. I have an A7SIII but this is a massive addition. Maybe another A7Riv or A1 II down the line for high resolution and 8K.

why's best? only fast not better video o picture quality , this camera is not for every one

@@rumbahd Yeah try filming 60-120fps video for slow-mo with dodgey LED's. This is the future, and so far it has similar picture quality and dynamic range with most Sony cameras. Canon cameras for example, besides C70, have worse than FX30 APS-C dynamic range and A9III is undoubtedly way better. You should expect 15+ stops of dynamic range. I have a7SIII and in video you could see some jelly effect at 120fps slow-mo when the camera has some serious shakes, and it's 7.1ms at 120fps which is only slower than the Sony Venice 2 ~3ms.

@@PMRTV Honestly, no matter how you slice it, you'll have a hard time naming a better overall camera, which is none. Pricetag is a massive deciding factor, but it hasn't nothing to do with the title of the most complete camera ever made. If this was Canon it would cost at least $8K. The killing blow would be A1 II with global shutter as well, and probably with new dual processors and new CFExpress 1,800MB/s PCIe 4.0. A7Siv and the next A7Rvi should be Stacked or even better stacked 2-layer transistor sensors.

4:01 "virtually no distortion" => it's actually none at all, 100%. The only distortion that you would see are the real life distortions (like ball deformation upon impact), the camera is not adding anything else. 5:18 I believe it only keeps full resolution at 120Hz but not at 240Hz (need more information on this)

Patrick, Matt Granger and MIguel Quiles did competing videos about flash sync and Matt thinks strobes cant maintain power, limited duration, to take advantage of global shutter A93. I am wondering how much more powerful houses strobes are related to their discussion.

LOL, you gotta love youtubers... Once they step beyond the information provided by the manufacturers that loan or give them products to review, they can dig a deep hole fast. Is it possible to shoot 4K/30/60 in APS-C mode? If yes, is the footage oversampled like it is in FF or is it pixel-binned? Currently using my A7RV almost exclusively with APS-C lenses and considering a switch to the A9iii for better performance with action sports.

yes, you can shoot any 4K speed in aps-c mode, no problem on A9III.

So I guess the question comes down to megapixels in the a1 vs. the global shutter and the megapixels in the a9 III…less megapixels, but global shutter with higher ISO range (but with possible firmware upgrades on the horizon)…

yes, but I wouldn't buy it only for vlogging as you can get the same features for a lot less $$ from the A7CII...

I will assume the RAW output is pixel binned like on the A1 - in which case it is not true RAW unfortunately.

4K60 no pixel binning, 4K120 pixel binning.

@@denizahmet2299 It's been announced several times from several sources including in this video. 4K60 is down sampled from 6K, 4K120 is pixel binned. Both cover the entire frame, no cropping.

@@denizahmet2299 Regarding video, the a9 III has 6K oversampling for 4K/60p video and 4K/120p movies without a crop. The camera promises 10-bit 4:2:2 All-I, 16-bit RAW output, S-Cinetone and S-Log3, plus dynamic active mode stabilization. By the way, the a9 III is the first Alpha camera to offer 4K/120p video without a crop.
