I was looking for an amp that could give good gain at low volume. I was at a guitar center and none of the amps there were cutting it for my picky tastes... and then one of the store employees went to the back of the store and brought out one of these used models that they just got that day! I instantly loved it. It was one of those moments where you knew it was the thing for you, I bought it instantly. $75 after tax

I came from Marshall SLP 1993 and during war times, I’m travelling through hotels and looked for practice amp for easy transitions - this one doing the classic Marshall with all the saturation variations - the speaker is always clear no matter how much gain u push , the effects is very surprising too ! Best practice amp so far, very versatile and only weights 7KG.

Does it work well with pedals? My cheap 20W amp clips wayyy too easily when I put some reverb and chorus on it. I have an option to jump to Marshall 15w but am afraid it’ll do the same. I’m a very wet tone type of player and am afraid that this doesn’t have an effects loop.

The only ones that bash MGs are kids who have no idea what they're doing, or the guitar forum ''experts'' who don't know how to use a 3 band EQ or a gain knob, nothing wrong with these amplifiers.

There's plenty wrong with these amps mate. I've had nothing but trouble since i bought mine. Can't seem to get a good tone out of it. I've miced it up with a bunch of mic's and even played it through several cabs. The only channel that sound half descent is the clean channel.

@@mickhudson The price point makes consistency an issue. I've had that issue with other cheap gear. Had to try 2 or 3 to get a good one. Unfortunately, most people don't have the patience for that. I've used the basic MG15R (reverb only) as a harmonica amp for a couple of years & it is a super tough little unit. It has survived many trips on the back of my Harley in all sorts of temperatures & delivers a great sound which always seems bigger than it ought to be. I can only assume the fancier MG15GFX is made just as solid. The trouble is, can I justify 2 small amps? Well, at the price, I guess I can think of it as a "spare"...

I have an MG15HFX (Micro Stack), which they stopped making in 2010. It is not a combo. It has 2 stacked 1x10 cabinets and the HFX head which is basically the same head the GFX has inside. The only downside is you can't have multiple effects on at the same time. It's one or the other based on the selector knob. The foot controller might solve this problem, but I can't be 100% sure of that since I don't have a foot controller. Instead, after the first year I had it, I bought a DigiTech RP355 modeling processor for it. Now I can create any tone I want and playing trough this amp sounds great. I've had it 11 years now and still use it every day.

@michaelj3959
@michaelj3959 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexcecere1944 Hey Alex. Yeah, the effects knob will only let you select one effect at a time. You can't have flanger, chorus and delay all on at the same time. It's one or the other. You don't necessarily need a Digitech RP355. They don't make that model anymore. Unless you can find a used one on Reverb or something. The last model DigiTech made was the RP360 and the RP360XP, which has the expression pedal. (The RP355 also comes with the expression pedal). You can use any guitar modeling processor board like Headrush, Line 6 or Boss. Those can get pricey though. The Digitech models are less expensive and you might be able to find a good used one. For example you could pay $700 to $1000 for a Headrush board. But, I've seen the Digitech RP360XP on Reverb for around $250.

I love mine. It would seem I need a better guitar because mine doesnt sound like that. Or maybe I just want a new guitar...or to go home and practice more. I'll do both. Great amp though.

@@enzorodrigues9735 That's true. However, to increase the punch you can dial much more mids, only a bit more treble and less bass. Also use bridge pickup only on your guitar for power chords. The difference with this settings is remarkable. This will make the sound much brigher and crispy. But if you like the sound of MG, but still not enough gain to your taste even after you apply these settings (and don't want to use overdrive pedal in front of it, as you do not like any of them) and still need to add up the gain, use EQ pedal in front of its gain channel. Boss GE-7 makes it metal machine. Again, settings on EQ pedal with emphasis on mids and also a bit of treble. You can experiment to your taste. Depends on what you want. From metal pedals with too much gain I can recommend Metal Muff. This one you would use just into clean channel of your MG. But I warn you - after using it everything else will sound too weak in terms of distortion sounds :)

@@matesssmiss9419 i have this amp and even if i turn gain and volume up it just sounds like acoustic. tried everything. will an overdrive pedal or eq solve this problem?
@matesssmiss9419
@matesssmiss9419 2 жыл бұрын
@@marcrchz If you have exactly this amp and you really switched it into overdrive channel and turned the gain all the way up (no need to turn volume all the way up, just make sure that it is not muted), but still sounding acoustic, then something is very wrong with your amp or with something else (did your guitar work well with any other amp? I want to know whether your amp is the only one to blame). Did you try another guitar cord? Are all your connections firm, making sure that the guitar signal is sufficient? What about the volume knob on your electric guitar - is it also turned all the way up? Sounding acoustic on cranked overdrive channel (with also EQ and channel volume knobs not muted) with also volume knob on your guitar cranked all the way up should not be possible. This is not about the punch I was describing above. Even without that fine-tuning of your tone, it should sound nicely overdriven - of course, without using of external overdrive pedal (that's why you chose the amp with overdrived channels, I believe). Otherwise, you should search for the real cause.

I have old 15DFX but its overdrive channel is not working properly so I bought this one and I might resell it. Static noise when just plugged to outlet and ON (even without a guitar) and can't get a right sound from it. I'm new to it and maybe I don't know how to set it good but the old one has a great sound without dancing around it

I bought this amp today. When I turn the amp on the tap led is flashing red all the time and never goes off. No matter what settings I dial the knobs to I just seem to get the clean sound all the time? No crunch or overdrive, the guitar just sounds the same? Am I doing something wrong?

I've been very happy with my MG15. My question is: If i get a tube amb that's a practice amp, will sound quality blow me away compared to this amp?
@emartinezr
@emartinezr 10 ай бұрын
The problem with a true tube amp is that they need to be cranked louder to sound best. They will also be bigger and heavier. This one, will have decent OD, crunch and clean sound (plus the other effects) that you can use to carry around and practice at low volume (for example if you live in an apartment, or a house with sensitive neighbours, or have a whiny wife etc.). You can probably mic it up for small little gigs. Can practice with a full band if in a small-ish room. Electric guitar karaoke in a patio, etc.

I had older MG15FX opened and it said MG30FX on the board inside, so I would assume that this part is the same. If you notice front panel of MG30FX, it is not very symetric - and the back compatibility of board with MG15FX is probably the reason. Also owned MG30FX and it was definitely louder and had bigger bottom end with its 10-inch speaker for rounded (less fizzy) sound, but you also needed to crank it a little bit further to get nice sound. So the less volume you desire for your bedroom due to neighbours or so, the better option MG15FX is, as its crunch and overdrive channels sound break earlier on lower volumes with its 8-inch speaker. The worst option for your neighbours would be MG50FX (or bigger), as 12-inch speaker is too bassy for them. Owned also that one, but it went back to shop, as the neighbours did not withstand even low volume knob settings. But that one had also effects loop, which is nice feature not only for additional effects (you do not need them, there are nice offects onboard), but for example for looper to play with. Nice option was also MG2FX with only 6,5-inch speaker, which is also perfectly loud for bedroom and even with perfectly clean channel, which is very surprising for such small speaker. I still own this one and it is capable of very nice sounds. The only dowside is that it does not have capability of saving presets nor footswitching. For rehearsals and stages, the opposite is true, of course :)

For the effects, it's only one at a time. Except reverb... and gain. So you choose ONE of: Chorus, Phaser, Flanger, Delay, Octaver. But you can add reverb (2 different reverb) and gain (3 dirty channels and 1 clean) separately.

Mr. Degan, I don't know if my message will get to you but I hope so. I'm paralyzed from my chest down and can't leave out much right now due to Coronavirus. So I have questions about this Amp and my playing. I really hope you receive this before I make a choice on this and others. Plus I adore the way you play. You have the sound that I wish to emulate,,, Wayne A Caddell Jr (otherwise know as Wayneo)
