I have been looking at making a machine to break skids down, but I use the wood so I want the pieces to come off as intact as possible. In the past the best technique was to use a 32 oz ball peen hammer. I would pre cut a few pieces of oak 2x4 to be a bit sider than the slats that go across the stringers and bang first on the sides of the slats with sharp blows. It it a lot of work and you crack a lot of pieces even with a practiced hand. you also pull a lot of nail heads through. So my idea for a machine is a lot more manual than yours and a lot simpler and a lot slower, but for me that is a good thing. I plan on making one thing that sits on the stringers, over the slat you want to pull and you put a bottle jack on that, and there is a piece that goes over the top of the jack and closes around each side of the slat. You pump the jack and it applies even pressure to both sides of the slat, hopefully enough the get the nails coming out without breaking the slat.

Yes it would. This first design was just a test using free scrap material that I had on hand, minus the pneumatic ram. If I do another it’ll be much improved. Got the job done though.

I'll get right on this Life-Changing Build....- I was thinking of using a chevy Power steering pump to run a hydraulic set up ... but wondering how that air set up is working for you? ... It seems to be okay,, ? a n steady production,, I just hate using my compressor,,but here it gets -35/-40 in winter and thats another problem with fluid driven systems... Great Video Totally Awesome.

@AgentWest Жыл бұрын
I'm not the guy from the video, but if you're still looking for a pallet breaker I can build you one. Realistically you're looking at maybe $1500-2000 for everything including materials and powdercoating. I do have a small modification in mind where the "fingers" will pull straight instead of pivoting, so boards would have less tendency to split.
@caboscott29754 жыл бұрын
Your design splits the board ends. Sawzall works better.
