Amazing how much of our lives we leave to chance... and how easy it is to do better.

Working on issues with my wife for four years now. Saved our marriage, but our communication has hit a wall. Thanks for the summary, Brian. I just ordered the book for us. I'll start with me first, and then hopefully she'll jump in too.

We were engaged 43 years ago tomorrow and it only took us 2 weeks to decide. Next month we will be married 40 years! I want to expand the other 2 parts of Cherish- love we get that but we don’t normally keep the Honor and Cherish well cared for, they get neglected! We bonded and became best friends in less than a month. I studied every book on marriage I could find and it gave us a spring board to grow from. We talked through the good things we found in what we were reading together and we talked through the mistakes that others said they had made so we grew a very deep relationship very fast. We are still best friends and just enjoy sitting holding hands. We have both been through some very tragic thing so every moment is precious. I buried my 1st husband when I was 20 and so I know what a great loss that is. Life is a gift we cherish.

In real estate investing we have this thing that we call marketing for the data. The data is the feedback mechanism that let's know which way to go. We are never interested what we think, how we feel or our opinions...only in the data. What do our opinions have to do with anything anyway? Also, what I have found to be an effective approach is not to ask people arbitrary questions about what they would do in certain situations. It is far better to create the situation, put them in it and simply observe their behavior. That's where the data comes from and it's mostly gathered in silence because you don't have to say a word to collect it. The 91% accuracy is not a big surprise to me. What's the reality anyway, are you going to have conflict in a relationship or not? The answer is "Yes" so wouldn't it best serve you to know how to successfully navigate that terrain than to pretend that it's never going to happen? There are the way things are and the way that we wish they were. Cherish - to choose your mate anew again on a daily basis. Turn toward bids - are you looking at your mate long enough in his/her eyes until you see their pupils dilate? Support their efforts. Good manners - nothing will every replace having good manners toward your spouse. Two different viewpoints can coexist in the same space. Everyone's a winner. The difference in opinion is the opportunity for you to be open and to see life in a different way. In the end, what are you defending anyway, a belief? Well, we all know that all beliefs are made up stories/lies/illusions anyway. I love you. I vow to reduce my own self-criticism. Besides it takes too much of my energy to hold them into place anyway. I appreciate you, Brian. Keep Pushing.

Loved it as always, Brian! Gottman Rocks ..... What Makes Love Last is a good one too! Love the idea of the letter ..... in writing it, I assume you plan on just writing a letter and then just incorporate the different areas of appreciation throughout, versus just having them more or less listed out? Side note - my first book came out yesterday and I'd love to send you a copy - not to have you review it on here necessarily, but just to show you my appreciation..... It's all about success and what it takes to achieve it .... I studied the best chefs in the world (a super challenging stressful industry) and found the common threads ... not just the things that make them success at work, but in life as a whole ..... Let me know how to get in touch with you, or you can shoot me an email, chris@bachelorkitchen.com
