Good old epsilon/epsilon-delta proofs, just started my math major at UCLA this year and love all these proofs, analysis, and generalizations to different dimensions and spaces. It makes math more of an “art” rather than a “process”

I’m a 31 year old physics major that just restarted my college journey this year. Your videos helped me to understand that math is actually fun, like a big puzzle. I used to be addicted to drugs, party a lot, but now that I am older, and a little more wiser, I’m actually finding myself having joy in my math classes. Thank you, based BPRP.

It’s like learning a language I guess. You don’t “memorize” what every word’s definition is. And for math, you don’t memorize the exact proof of something.

My abstract algebra prof made us read the textbook during class all together and in the college way because he was convinced (correctly so) that we had never learned how to properly read a college level math textbook.

Love it! I'm a maths uni student who essenitally tries to treat maths as a game still. 1) You start off a complete idiot but you just play around because you don't feel worthy of the excellence already written below the theorem. 2) You try a few things, get annoyed, look at a little hint and laugh at how silly you were for going in silly directions. 3) You use that hint and you'll get so far and get to a block again. 4) Rinse and repeat until eventually you think you've got to a proof. 5) See whether your proof is the same or different to the one that's there and consider why it is the same or different in the relevant case (it could be wrong or yours could in fact be more elegant - which is a personal thing but at least more elegant to you). 6) Don't stop there! Once you've done that I'd recommend looking into the name behind the proof, maybe even the history behind the proof, as it will allow you to remember it much more easily. If you can get into the mind of the person whose name got attached to that proof, your appreciation for it (and the likelihood of you remembering it) will quadruple at a minimum. Remember most of a (professional) mathematician's work, even brilliant ones is entirely "stupid" working that goes in the wrong direction...it's only after a long time of taking it in the wrong directions do they finally write up the beautiful thing in the end for others to enjoy. :) Even Terence Tao said he didn't know you could get paid to do maths when he was a kid (interview on KZbin I saw), once you realise the answer to why they get paid and what exactly they get paid for... that's an appreciation of the mathematical working life and it will give you a clear (much clearer at least) picture for why you should bother putting the effort in to do maths things. Surely the working life of a professional mathematician is essentially the same as the procedure above but instead of having a solution already there to consult, you go in more wrong directions, you get annoyed and talk to colleagues, you get annoyed again as you can't proceed so you procrastinate and get coffee... lots of "Oh yes!....Nope, idiot!..."Surely that's it!...Nope so stupid sometimes!"...""I don't even trust myself anymore...could be right...hey John can you have a look at this? John: Yeah seems solid to me well done. You say: Thanks, Inside: "BOOM, what an idiot I was! how could that possibly take me so long, now where's my 1 million dollars at and who's writing my name down for the theorem?" 🤣 Then humility returns and you realise every little detail has to be scrutinised first so you forget about it and do something else. Then one day someone gives you a phone call which goes: "Other: Hi there, I have some good news for you, You: Sarcastic: Do you now?!, Other: You've been awarded the Fields medal, You: Stop messing around, I'm at work [doing absolutely nothing but watching cat videos], Other: no sir, understand your proof has been verified, you are going to be receiving the Fields medal. You: Sarcastic: Damn! I better buy myself a decent suit then, Other: Further details will follow with the specifics and we will email them to you. You: Okay thanks for the good news." *hangs up* 2 days go by and the slow realisation dawns on you after niggling at the back of your mind for a while. Then you get the legit email... but being a mathematician you still don't believe it, I mean "I know proof and this isn't proof! Where's the rigour in this email?" Getting the medal: "Thanks everyone! (But do you all actually exist I mean I can't prove that...shhhh)" Is that about right? 🤣🤣 Ideally, the adults would provide the inspiration and clear pictures of what it means to be a mathematician, but you/we as students must go through the perspiration to get there. XD

Dude bprp is a math professor, physics is not his forte , considering the vast theory and the minor calculations of high school -college physics it’s kind of an insult coz for someone like bprp their talent would be wasted studying the theory and the lacklustre calculations and roundabout problems which are no where as near as demanding as the problems he posts on yt and solves
