Poa vs Bent Grass Golf Greens

It’s safe to say if you don’t have great greens on a golf course, you don’t have a great product. In Canada, there’s a mix of art and science to ensure our greens have the best chance of survival going into the winter, but it’s a little bit like playing Craps in vegas and you just don’t know when you’re going to roll a 7 and have big green problems come this time of the year.
Fortunately, we have a Superintendent at Springbank Links that really knows his stuff.
By the way, did you realize there was so much difference between poa and bent grass? Most courses in this area have a mix of both grasses on the greens. I’ve always preferred bent grass. Want to know why? Well... there’s a less chance of me rolling a 7 and crapping out come April.

Just mow and fertilize. The herbicides are useless against poa especially on bentggrass. Foramsulfuron works well for poa on Bermuda grass . In Texas I spray every three weeks after the blue bonnets are finished seeding out. The post herbicides will not work when poa is flowering
