This is such a great experience on a nice day. Highly recommend to anybody who is an advanced rider. The hike is not bad, maybe 20-30 minutes depending on your pace. Definitely a fun ride down in the main resort area. Definitely got some weird looks from some of the skiers but most were pretty pumped. Easy to take the bus back down to Snowbird to continue the day too.

This is one of the routes home for many Alta snowboarders if the chutes are open. There are many snowboarders in Alta and it is not uncommon to snowboard down through on a regular basis. Good work.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Alta made a settlement in the lawsuit against them that says snowboarders can use the slopes (because that is government land) but can use the lifts.
@BoredProgression8 ай бұрын
There was no settlement. It’s always been that way as far as I know. The courts decided in that lawsuit that snowboarders essentially weren’t a group of people being excluded and that they can get on the lifts with Alta’s “preferred equipment”. Pretty sure nothing changed after the lawsuit.
@ericvandereems66048 ай бұрын
I think the expectation when people watch this will be that Alta skiers will heckle and boo you out of the resort, but I think this shows that people are so chill and even excited to see you snowboarding there!
@BoredProgression8 ай бұрын
Idk if I’d say excited, but they definitely weren’t hostile this time around.

Back in the day, 2000s to early 10s. Everyone would point at you and yell “poacher” and if they got the attention of nearby ski patrol, you’d kindly get escorted down the mountain. Know lotsa folks who’ve done it, still haven’t myself.

You can snowboard Alta at any time, there are no restrictions, you just can't ride the lifts. As long as uphill is open. it's fair game. I'm a skier/ snowboarder (there are more of us than you think) and love Alta. That said, it would be a TERRIBLE place to ride a snowboard. We have a joke that Alta stands for Another Long Traverse Ahead, and it's true. There's so much incredible terrain there but 90% of it is accessed by traversing/ hiking. It would suck on a snowboard. Deer valley is another story. That would be a great place to snowboard.
@BoredProgression8 ай бұрын
I’ve toured all over Alta and it’s not a “TERRIBLE” place to ride a snowboard. Yes, there’s a lot of flats and traverses but that’s a “TERRIBLE” excuse to say snowboarders aren’t missing anything. I have a blast every time I ride there. If it really is that bad, then opening it up to snowboarding won’t change the mountain at all. After a season or less, snowboarders would figure that out and continue to ride elsewhere.

@BoredProgression8 ай бұрын
Snowbird is definitely better but Alta’s like a mini snowbird or Snowbird.5 Baldy chutes alone are worth it.
@Gary-np7hl8 ай бұрын
Hell yeah! I’d have to know that the snow is good coming down that chute not to embarrass myself. Last time I was up there, I was just going to scan my ikon pass at the top of baldy and just go through the gates. Someone gave me a heads up of a flat spot half way down where I might have to skate. That would make for another embarrassing moment. You did the snowboard community proud! If I ever run into you up there… I’m always down and goldminers daughter on me. Heard some good things about the place. It would be cool walking in with snowboard boots.

I am a skier and I enjoy skiing both Alta and Deer Valley but their snowboard exclusion has nothing to do with why I enjoy skiing DV or Alta. In fact it is embarrassing explaining to people when they come visit me in Utah that two of three resorts in the US that exclude snowboards and their mostly middle aged responsible riders are in Utah. Most think it is weird. It is. The snowboard discrimination is just another culture oddity in the Beehive state. Oh well. Great video.
@spencerethington8 ай бұрын
I think the main reason alta doesn't allow it is because it's already very crowded, and most of the terrain is accessed by traverses. Deer valley is a terrible resort so you wouldn't wanna go there

Yessss

4:47 still a valid excuse cause 85% of snowboarders don’t have the skill to go fast enough for the flats.
@BoredProgression7 ай бұрын
Doesn’t justify banning them. They’d naturally stop going there if it wasn’t fun getting stuck that much
@Red1676Ай бұрын
Most the flats isn't a problem, only snowboarders that can't handle them is beginners. Hell, even the better snowboarders can usually ride entire runs one foot, couple flats won't do anything.

Hike up High Baldy Traverse from Snowbird. Where you would normally strap in after the around 10 minute hike there's a gate to your right that gives you access to the top of Baldy with another 15 minutes of hiking. Once at the top you can hit Living the Dream back into Mineral Basin or a variety of chutes that drop you into Alta.
