So glad I found this. Thank you Derek and your team. Nature is under threat from so many angles and this movie highlights that. I feel more people would rally in support if they could see the opportunities and the problems from a viewpoint other than a “city”. That is hard for anyone who does not live in or close to “nature” .. so thanks for your excellent and sensitive handling of this video.

These rangers are heroes of planet earth. We need economic growth to give people an honest way of earning a living instead of reverting to poaching.

The first effective survey of Kruger park was done in the early 1960s. Due to lack of good data it was estimated the elephant population was approximatly 2X carrying capacity. The last effective survey of Kruger park was the early 1990s, that said that the large tree (9metres+) population had dropped from over 30 per square kilometre (in the 1960s) to less than 1 per square kilometre, the elephant population had risen to about 9X the carrying capacity. Elephants have a bigger effect on the habitat than any other animal. So the numbers quoted here are based on the most vague estimates and the image presented is far from the real truth. Until the government funds an effective survey of Kruger park all actions will be based on insufficient data.

Why is the National defence force not using the Kruger as a training ground, defend our natures resources. All they do is sports and recreation.
