I think Herc missed the mark with two criticisms. First of all, he saw as a negative that Pochettino hasn't won anything big and Herc wants that track record. What do you think the USMNT can win that they haven't already won? A World Cup? If you're standard is the coach has to take the USMNT to win the World Cup, good luck finding that mythical coach. Reasonable hopes are for the US to make the Quarters, or maybe even the Semis (although that may be pie in the sky). Pochettino has succeeded to that level enough to validate his hire, if it happens. Secondly, it's unfair to criticize a coach who has had excellent players. Teams that have excellent players typically get to pick from the best of the best for coach. And if Mauricio was hired multiple times to coach teams with outstanding talent, that means he's considered an outstanding coach worthy of that talent. That's a plus, not a negative.

He is a great option. I think there could be issues such as lack of knowledge with US and the MLS, but he is the best candidate.
