Still, Cuba managed to develop a corona vaccine on their own, and I'm sure you can find other discoveries made in these nations. Even in capitalist nations, most research is done by public sector projects in the military and academic circles, by waged people. Discovery and progress is not the same as rampant consumerism, and creating frivolous commodities. The Soviets made various innovations, many of which you and I enjoy today
