Jim Steinman, the greatest! 12.- You took the words right out of my mouth. 11.- Bat out of hell. 10.- Heaven can wait. 9.- Dead ringer for love. 8.- Making love out of nothing at all. 7.- All revved up with no place to go. 6.- Total eclipse of the heart. 5.- Rock and roll dreams come true. 4.- For crying out loud. 3.- I will do anything for love but I won’t do that. 2.- Two out of three ain’t bad. 1.- Paradise by the dashboard light. Great work!

I remember when Celine Dion's version of "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" came out. The first time I heard it, without knowing anything about its production, I knew with confidence from the lyrics that it must be a Steinman song. That says something about what a master of his craft Jim Steinman was. "There were days when the sun was so cruel, all my tears turned to dust and I just knew my eyes were drying up forever..."

Very surprised "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" didn't make the list. One of his biggest hits that was on the charts at the same time as "Total Eclipse of the Heart".

May need to re-listen to that but it didn't really leap out for me.

I know, Making Love is a great song. When I was DJ in the late 1980s, that was my sign-off song. Turn up the speakers in the booth, say goodnight, and then rock until the end. :)

My personal favorite Jim Steinmen song is Braver Than We Are. Such a wonderful song. I don't care who sings it, those lyrics are brilliant

Great song from an otherwise disappointing album.

I might have to check that one out. Meat Loaf lost me a bit after Bat Out Of Hell III. Any version to really seek out?

It is great regardless of who sings it. Many of Jim’s songs require a special talent sutas

Every one is an absolute gem. How one person could write such an array of absolute classics is almost incomprehensible. This list could honestly be a top 100, and wouldn’t be struggling… P.S. Faster Than the Speed of Night has been in my vinyl collection since release. You could add more… Cyndi Lauper, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, and Jim himself easily.

I didn't know he produced "Never Forget" either, until I saw Gary Barlow's video tribute on Twitter. We'll have to agree to disagree on "No Matter What" and that's fine, but I adore "Read 'Em and Weep" and those lyrics from "Dead Ringer For Love" are my favourites, too! :) Only Jim could write a 10-12 minute song that still feels too short. RIP Jim Steinman.

Very nice list, thank you! Songs I feel should have gotten a mention: Tonight is what it means to be young Dance in my Pants Original Sin (Pandora's Box - Seriously, it saddened me a little that they weren't in your list at all :( ) Left in the Dark Loving You Is A Dirty Job The never released A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste by Pandora's Box (far better, iMO, than the Lloyd Webber song that came later and used a few of the other song's lyrics) And, possibly my favourite, Out Of The Frying Pan (And Into The Fire) Still, so many great amazing songs, pretty much any list is valid.

How you could miss "Tonight is what it means to be young" and "Good girls go to heaven"?! Well, Jim is so great that top15 is too short list for all his masterpieces.

Have you never listened to the real bat out of hell 2 album "Bad for good" ? Written and sung by Steinman with that real angst in his voice and lyrics that'll cut you to the bone. Do it now my friend to capture the pure essence of the man and his music. Xx

I heard a few of the tracks on the 1992 re-issue of Bat Out Of Hell 12" single and wasn't impressed with his voice...

What about "Objects in The Rearview Mirror May Appear Closer than They Are"?? Jim Steiman even said he liked it more than, "I'd Do Anything For Love". Too many great songs from that man. R.I.P. Mr. Jim Steiman!!

Very interesting... but... no songs from "Bad for Good" the only LP from Jim solo... how can it be possible? ;-)

The end of Faster than the speed of night is out of this world... Elaine Caswell sang It's all coming back to me now before Celine Dion... Celine Dion sang it like her...

Steinman thought “Objects in the rear view mirror” was his finest work (at least up to that point), and I’d have thought it would make the top 10 at least…

I gotta quibble about the "No Matter What." I will full-well admit, I heard Meatloaf's version first, and I think I may be too old for boy band stuff but I didn't like Boyzone's version. It was too bubblegum-ish, which I didn't get out of that song at all. But hey, you like what you like, I have my likes and it's all good. Steinman was a genius and it's sad to know he's no longer here writing more fantastic songs. And that Meatloaf is also gone. But you know, there's got to be a hell of a rock show up in Heaven.

Thank you for your comment. It is exceptionally sad that less than a year after recording this one, I found myself returning to the subject of meatloaf performances following his death. Following comments already left I was literally listening to bad for good this very morning. Great songs but Jim was no singer... Made me appreciate meat's versions on BOOH II so much more.

Have to disagree with you on, 'No Matter What'. Boyzone did an excellent job singing that song, but. Do you know what was missing? Think about it, and listen to Meat sing it again. The difference was "Heart." Boyzone just sang it, Meat sang it with heart, and feeling and emotion. That is what made him great. He was definitely one of rock and rolls "GOATs"! Listen to one of the live versions not a cd. Also, have you listened to Meatloaf and Marion Raven sing Its all coming back to me now. They are all on utube. It's much better than celine's whining.

Hi, stumblin' in totally bluntly, on proposal of right margin. I think it's no coincidence, but that you deserve being wildly suggested. I am not into the content of your speech. It's your speech that was able to draw me in, that I appreciate as rhythmical and surprisingly poised and worked-out. Righteously, you dare to appear rather informal, if I may say so, interestingly the form matters, and may even be the gesture. Not much need to distract from you speaking so well. Let me please encourage you. To keep it serious is difficult enough.

Please check out aussie band Chocolate Sarfish doing BOOH the album. They just finished touring Australia and I managed to make it to seven shows. They also did total eclipse, it's all coming back as well as some Rocky Horror songs. Absolutely amazing concerts!.

I do not understand why you are not showing any music. What a shame to just talk on and on with no music. I am very interested in Jim Stein man's music. I know his songs that Meat Loaf sang but I'd like to learn more about his songs covered by other artists.
