That is the best design i have ever seen. I really want to build what youve built.Do you have the plans available for purchase? Everything about this boat is so well thought through. And now i find out it made of METAL! 😮 Im pritty sure online plans for this thing would sell year after year.

Beautiful job. I agree that aluminum might be more durable. I modified my PocketShip to have a keyhole shaped companionway, looks as if you did the same.

Yes, I did. It makes sliding in the hatches so much easier. I am curious of your PS. Sailed it allready?

@@arjen-de-vries Yes-launched it for the first time more than 10 years ago. I love to sail on Lake Pepin, which is a wide spot on the Mississippi surrounded by tall bluffs. Between Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Well done, Arjen--congratulations! Now that you've finished, how do you think the boat compares to the wood version? Any thoughts on the comparative differences in the build, aluminum vs. wood? Again, congratulations on a beautiful job.
@arjen-de-vries2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken, thanks. As I only can compare with wooden Pocketships others build, my opinion must be regarded limited. Differences in the boat probably will not be very big. The size and even the weight is quite similar. Construction is stronger on certain points. Of course the hull can get its dents too. I started building as much as possible by the book. Lots of construction details are quite different. For example: stringers for attaching two surfaces are not necessary. That really makes it less complex. In other spots it needed a bit more reinforcement. In the end I had to reconsider building orders as well. You can glue certain areas and then cover it with a surface but in welding you always need access to the joints. I could (thankfully) skip the glassing and sanding. I opted for a coating finish which is in fact only cosmetic. I dont have to worry about rust and rot in the hull parts.

Did you build this with aluminuim and if so why please
@arjen-de-vries2 жыл бұрын
First idea was to built it in the intended wood epoxy. A friend suggested to built in aluminum which I thought was way to expensive. It difference tuned out to be almost nihil. (Materials). As it is much more durable I took the challenge…
