The tip about being nice and making good impression on everyone is SO TRUE!! I have a naturally outgoing personality so I didn’t do it to get anything in return but I was an aide at an elementary school and my first impressions and daily interactions with people opened so many doors for me. Teachers invited me to come teach lessons in their classes because they knew I was in school, the janitors to lunch ladies always sung my praise, and the principal even told the superintendent about me. They had mentioned so many times they couldn’t wait until I was finished with school so that I could be a teacher! I left because of covid, but when I left they literally all offered letters of recommendation!

Currently student teaching but I’m online. It’s pretty stressful. Trying to find virtual resources and get student engagement is the challenge.
@SpeakMoew3 жыл бұрын
I was in the same boat last fall! It's stressful as ever being online. How I helped students participate was using name note cards to randomly call on students. That way by the end of class I know what students talked and those who didn't. That's just my food for thought! Best of luck on your journey!

I have been school support staff for the last 7 years, the first 2 as a sub through a company contracted by local districts. The last 5 as a district employee - the first 3 of those as the staff building sub, and last year and this year as a special education paraprofessional. The Fall semester of 2023 I completed my student teaching in 4th grade, which I really enjoyed. Last week, I verbally accepted my first classroom teaching job for the coming school year 24/25, its in a different district that I have been in so a new adventure awaits, I am so excited to finally have my own classroom. I have watched so many of your videos and checked out your store. Thank so much Michelle - Pocketful of Primary.

Also , Never let a blown lesson plan be the end of the world for you as an educator and a student's " bad behaviors " at the time doesn't tell you much about them because you are only seeing them as students and your students are only seeing you as their teacher . If the students don't respond to you well then it probably doesn't work for them whereas if the students do respond well to you then it works and make whatever works part of " the code " in the classroom . Plus , If your students are talkative , they are probably carrying a lot on their minds . If you the teacher allow your students to unpack what is on their minds first then you will wind up having less to no distractions because their minds will end up emptied and you will have room to teach something into them . Hope this further helps anyone seeking to become a teacher . - Dwight

I’m in my 7th year of education and went back to second grade, which I student taught, this year and lost my entire flash drive with 6 months worth of lessons. I regret it so much. Asking questions also is needed now. My strength is math and writing after teaching departmentalized for math and writing, but reading is a whole other game. I finally had to reach out to my instructional coach for help refreshing my reading teaching.

In the state I’m in, we had the opportunity to get paid while we student teach a few years back. I was already in my late 20s so I went that route. Come to find out, I had my own classroom and never had a mentor. I hit the ground running but I wouldn’t do it any other way!
@kayleethompson32123 жыл бұрын
WOW! I would almost rather do that. I don't know how I will manage for a year without pay... My school asks us to not work while we do our student teaching, since its Monday-Friday, all day.
@Tallie6023 жыл бұрын
@@kayleethompson3212 I was facing that option as well! We were told not to work but I didn’t depend on anyone financially. I was very concerned. Luckily, I had this opportunity in time to student teach. I believe only one other person did that program with me! Everyone else went the traditional way.

Hi! Coincidentally I’ve actually been offered an opportunity like this today and I’ve been on the fence about accepting it! I’m nervous about not having a mentor 😅
@Tallie6023 жыл бұрын
@@Ninabean-kj7lm I’m not going to lie to you, but it was very difficult. Luckily, I had two neighbor teachers who were my rock for the whole year and I asked a million questions. I feel like I learned so much more because I learned from my own mistakes and I truly felt I had a realistic understanding of what it means to run your own classroom. Plus, you get paid teacher salary + benefits. I have 3 friends who ended up going to the same school I worked at and I have 1 year of teaching experience more than them, and I make more than them now because of it. I wouldn’t do it any other way!

My honest and useful tip. Don’t go into teaching. Student teaching don’t provide the full picture of the mess of the school system. It’s only the tip of the iceberg of the ridiculous mess the school system is in. And about to get worse. Not enough teachers, there’s a reason why.
