Cool tutorial. Marcus Huskyns also has a great S1 video where he sets up his macros to pocket drums like beat detective. For pocketing electric guitar, I have seen some guys do a DI split. So the guitar cable goes into a DI and the DI has an out for a dry signal and another out for the pedals and amplifiers. Then track the dry and wet and group them together and you can see transients in the dry signal.

That's a great idea. Another way to split the signal without a DI box is to use a simple splitter (1/4" male goes into guitar, two 1/4" female available out). One of those can be sent to the amp/pedals and the other can be used as the dry signal.

Hey Joe! This feature is amazing, I use it all the time with my drums 👌🏾actually cannot imagine my mixing life without it… Can I suggest a video about s1 remote app for iPad? There’s not much about this topic, I would love to see how you guys (you and Gregor) use it ! Thanks! ❤

Yes, I use this feature quite often, probably because I can't say that I have perfect timing. I am programming all of my drums for my songs and I am not a real drummer, so I probably get off on occasions, as well as play out of time a little. To be honest, I don't like things being perfect. In fact, if I sing a little off key or out of time, I just live with it, because I like the human factor. Look at a guy like Johnny Cash. The man TALKED off key, but it's JC. You can say that about a lot of artist. I say if it's really off, then fix it, but if it's just a little off, then just leave it alone.

Hey, man, how come when I bring a clip in from Splice, it (sometimes) doesn't snap to the grid? For example, I brought in a drumbeat recorded at 136 bpm, but my tempo was 92... it didn't adjust... what can I do?
@ashleyhill7137
@ashleyhill7137 Жыл бұрын
I'm a bit confused, as, by grouping everything, you seem to be 'slipping' all of the notes, as opposed to just the one that needed fixing? The others seem to move when they didn't need to? I'm obviously not grasping something correctly. Thanks

When recording distorted guitars, record a DI track as well and group them before editing. A lot easier to see the transients on a clean DI track.

What are the advantages of this method vs. using audio bend?
@Skijumptoes
@Skijumptoes Жыл бұрын
The advantage is that you're not 'bending' the audio, you're slipping it left or right without any kind of time stretching occurring so the audio quality remains.

Some of Keith Moon’s snare hits on Baba O’Riley are late but I actually think it makes the track and adds to the appeal. I hate to think they would have been corrected if recorded today.

I do wonder how much time professionals generally spend fixing things like this for a 4 minutes song with 4 instruments playboy very good players. (I am not there yet)

I am ableton LIVE user for about 15 years. I feel very comfortable with that DAW. I have to say one thing. STUDIO ONE IS SUPER, SUPER HARD TO LEARN ! After trying for 6+ months I am still very, unproductive and get stuck every single time I try to do something. It seems like I would need a 100 years to learn it ! I do not know whether is it to many features, to complex concept, to cluttered interface, to many macros, to many icons,... I really do not know exactly what makes it so hard, Perhaps my Ableton Live habits... I REALLY WANTED TO LIKE THIS SOFTWARE but after trying for so many months I am becoming more and more discouraged by the suuuuper slow progress and no resource other than Forum posts to get some help. How many messages one can however post a day ? THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE IS PLENTY OF TUTORIALS ON HOW TO DO THINGS. There are no tutorials or any help how to do, or what to do when one gets stuck !!! I ended up many times when something that supposed to work suddenly stopped, something got messed up and I had no idea how to fix it etc. I could only start from scratch (and be so unhappy to waste time again,...). Perhaps for those who use this software for 10+ years it is a second nature but the perspective of learning this software for another 20 years is daunting ! For NEW COMERS - there is something missing in this program ! CERTAINLY IS.

What sort of music production are you doing? Studio One is more of a "console" oriented DAW compared to Ableton, so if you are doing primarily modern electronic production, I would say that Ableton caters to that much better. Most traditional pros I know who love S1 come from a more analog and traditional instrumental recording background.

I was a Cubase user, and occassionally, Pro Tools. I switched to Studio One in 2016, and from there, i never looked back. It's a lot easier to use than other DAWs that i have experimented with. There are many tutorials onlilne that you can use. But in my opinion, just use whatever you are comfortable with. The end result is all that matters.
@presonus

Hi Arthur, sorry to hear that you’re frustrated! Perhaps you are over complicating things a little bit? As long as you stick to the fundamental “Drag & Drop” philosophy, 90% of the DAW should work just like you expect. Perhaps this video can help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmOsZpKQoZymd8U -GBY
