Poco live in 2004 with one of their three biggest hits. "Heart Of The Night" is from their most popular studio album "Legend", released in 1978. It is also my favorite Poco tune.
Poco is an American country rock band originally formed by Richie Furay and Jim Messina following the demise of Buffalo Springfield in 1968. The title of their first album, Pickin' Up The Pieces, is a reference to the break-up of the Springfield and is the only debut album ever to receive a perfect rating from Rolling Stone Magazine. A favorite of AOR FM stations in the early 1970s, Poco was considered to be a highly innovative and pioneering band.
Although the band charted a handful of Top 20 hits, overall their Top 40 success was uneven, and many of their most innovative records were commercially unsuccessful. Throughout the years Poco has performed in various groupings, with the latest version still active today. With 24 original albums and 26 "Best of" and anthology collections, the band boasts a total catalog of 50 releases.

My real name is Freida Cotton and Paul wrote that song for us, which was played on the radio the night we got married. I have such fond memories of this time in our life. It was the best!!!And Thank you rusty for your incredible play , it has always brought tears to my eyes. Thanks Guys, you know I love you and miss you!!!!

That is so sweet, Freida. I saw Poco at the old Symphony Hall (Now known as the Brady Theater) in Tulsa when they were touring the "Legend" album. Paul said that that band was his favorite, with Charlie Harrison on bass and Steve Chapman on drums, and of course, Rusty. I suppose that you know that "Philip Hartman" designed that wonderful album cover back when he was a graphic artist. This clip was great--being old does not mean that you cannot rock!

Dear Jim Finan, Sorry, I don't think so! They simply weren't so popular like The Eagles, for instance, but they were THE GREATEST AMERICAN COUNTRY ROCK BAND of all time! For all of us big fan of theirs, we are blessed for listening to such great musicians, singers and songwriters. They were for blessed few ones, like us, NOT for everybody! ! R.I.P. I just found this live version and I've been binging on it ever since. I love the fade out where Paul says "please don't wake me, don't shake me if it's only just a dream".....etc. I bought this album in College and this is how the fade out was on my record. I'm so glad I found this. God bless everyone here who recognize timeless masterpieces, like this. Thank you. 😇

I opened up for them in Commerce City in Denver Colorado on July 4th 2001. They sounded fantastic. Rusty Young even asked if he could get up and play a song with our band since we were from New Orleans. He wanted to play Jumbalaya with us,and we did. He sat in on a few songs with us. Later when they played, the bassist had issues with the equip. from the rental company, so he even used my equipment.....WITH POCO. Thas my claim to fame with them. Class acts all of them. Sounded fantastic! Plus Im from New Orleans so the song is significant to me!

Poco is my favorite country-rock band, right up there with John Stewart. I saw them many times over the years, first at Santa Monica Civic back in the 70s, where they had fans standing on their seats and where Rusty lied on his back on the stage and played the pedal steel upside down. What an amazing talent! Also saw them several times at the Fox theater in Riverside. Last time I saw Poco was in 2019 at the Golden Nugget in Vegas, where I got to chat with Rusty and the boys after the concert and they signed their latest Legend CD, Rusty even posed for a photo of me holding the cd. A copy of it hangs on the wall next to my desk where I have a collection of John & Buffy Ford Stewart photos. So sad to learn of his passing earlier this year! May he rest in peace. As John Stewart would say, "Keep it flyin'"

At the Laguna Bowl on 9/5/79? That was my first concert. Fell in love with the steel string guitar and with keyboardist Kim Bullard. Paul Cotton died this year on July 31, 2021. He was 78. He wrote In the Heart of the Night. Here is a comment from the Internet: "Among the songs Cotton wrote for Poco was one of the band's biggest hits, Heart Of The Night,” which reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. Inspired by his love for the city of New Orleans, Cotton claimed to have written the song in 20 minutes." RIP Paul.

Wow. This stuff (fine music) just gets all over me. This is the best performance of this song I have ever heard them do and Phil Kenzie is also stellar on the Clarinet as is the steel guitar. Fantastic guys. I listen to it over and over. Thank you for your dedication to great music for all these years. Andre'
