Man my nose is itching, maybe I have to sneeze but maybe it's my NOSEHAIR GOBLIN. Guys if you have a lot of of nosehair THIS is just for YOU. They offer you highly customable little goblins with glasses and hats that you can easily braid into your nosehair. Life is short so ain't nobody got time for a boring nose, TREAT YOURSELF!

I really appreciate how Jenna acknowledges that everyone has their own story, and that life now IS different than when she was younger. Her advice was excellent, but she also mentions that it isn't universal and that just because you can't implemen that advice doesn't mean you're a failure. This podcast was EXCELLENT.

I completely agree. Everyone's experience and where they are in their life is different and Jenna is quite thoughtful and considerate when it comes to that. I think it's because she's naturally an empathetic person and because she has a variety of life experiences (for a girl living in North America in this time period. I mean she hasn't just been a "Hollywood girl" her whole life). For example she hasn't always been this super popular girl living in a huge beautiful home in LA with a really good boyfriend, and playing for a living.... She earned a masters degree while living in a small shared apartment (paycheck to paycheck) and made her income from go-go dancing. She's been lost, confused, and sad with no direction before. She understands being a human. It wasn't considered "cool" when she first started making videos. She was a weird awkward girl alone in her bedroom posting videos talking to her camera as if someone was watching (back when nobody did that and it wasn't a thing that was normal and understood). She was perceived as immature, attention seeking, and awkward. She wasn't understood by many people. She didn't know what she was doing with her life. It just sorta ended up working out for her. I think partly because she her mind set is healthy and positive. But she's definitely relatable to most of us ordinary people who don't know what the fuck we're doing.

I love advice-casts! Just going to pop in and add my two cents on gaining financial freedom and moving out. For me, I was raised by terrible savers. My parents were paycheck to paycheck and whatever they had at the end of the month went to their vices so utilities turned off often and dinner wasn’t always a meal. I didn’t have a solid foundation to base adulthood off of. So when I turned 17 I decided I’d be out before I turned 19. I worked at Wendy’s and picked up baby sitting gigs, tennis lessons, tutoring lessons, I’d pull weeds for neighbors, clean up dog shit, clean litter boxes, clean houses. Anything and everything. And every $5 bill I got for the first 3 months, I put in a shoe box in the back of my closet. The next 3 months, every $10 bill I got, went in the shoe box. The next 6 months, I alternated $10 and $20 bills(so if I’d hidden a $10 last, a $20 went in the next time I opened the box) and I just took it out before I even noticed it was gone so I budgeted around what I had and didn’t really miss the amount I was putting in each week/job. On payday, if I had any cash in my wallet left from the previous week, it went in the box. I had well almost $2000 saved on my 18th birthday. And I applied for a credit card the day of my birthday to start establishing credit. For the next 6 months, all my gas went in my credit card and I paid it off totally the day BEFORE my payment was due. I was able to get approved for an apartment with a small deposit and I had no deposit on utilities and I was out before I turned 19. I slept on an air mattress and had one tv that sat on the floor in my living room. But it was mine. And I just saved up to buy cheap/used furniture and slowly filled it up until I had a real home. And when I turned 23, I broke ground on my first house. It’s hard. It’s exhausting. You’ll have to work Jobs you think are beneath you. But do what you have to to get what you want. Keep doing the odds and ends jobs while you’re working towards your dream. It’ll come eventually. You just have to hustle and be willing to make the sacrifices.

LunaMalfoy3 I'm also 23 and just bought land that I will be putting a house on this year. Everyone keeps saying no one at 23 is in the position to do what you're doing, that's so cool. Well it's really cool to see some else who is doing what I am at the some age. To everyone, it is possible in a much shorter period of time then you think to own your own place. Two years ago I had 200 bucks in the bank, this week I closed on my property which is in a major growing area in downtown and I'm so excited for this year

I’m graduating college on Saturday and plan to live with my mom for at least a couple more years. I take care of my sister (when I’m not working or going to school) and she asked me to stay and help her. I don’t always think independence comes from being physically away from your parents, but from being responsible for yourself (the point I think Jenna was trying to make). Paying your own bills, contributing to household bills, living your own life. I don’t think struggling to pay rent should be a bucket list experience. If you can’t live reasonably on your budget, and staying at home is an option, why not use that option if it’s right for you? I don’t like thinking new high school graduates think it’s a necessary life stage to be scraping nickels off the ground to pay for their utility bill. There’s so many cultures that don’t even correlate living arrangements with adulthood. Just do what’s best for your situation.

Randi Completely agree, I just wrote a comment on that. One of my friends is Greek and he thinks it's super weird how in UK and US parents practically boot you out the door once you turn 18. His parents basically paid all his bills even through college and actually wanted him to stay at home and not move to England for University. Really opened my eyes. I'm all for financial planning. Good luck to you.

I agree wholeheartedly. My father never moved out of the house, but he was the most hard-working person I've ever known. He worked his ass off and knew how to save up money. I live in an entirely different culture where a lot of people never move out of their parents' house. We don't live in rented places. We own our homes and most of the houses are big enough for everyone to live comfortably. That doesn't mean we aren't independent. We all have jobs and contribute. It's also more convenient that way because of house work, if someone's sick, if we're renovating etc. So I find it weird when people from other cultures move out when they turn 18.
@darkfeather111
@darkfeather111 6 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with this, my parents dont wont me to move it and find it very weird that more "americans" arent family oriented and have this tradition of "okay your 18 time to leave the house". I think it differs situation by situation, but If you are living at home I still think you shouldn't get comfortable on your parents and should push yourself to be independently financial and help out with many things.
@siruoes
@siruoes 6 жыл бұрын
Randi I agree since I do live at home. I work, save money and help my parents financially. It's not easy to find a job here. You can't just go and be a waitress here, you need a hygenia pass, you need to know first aid. You need to be qualified. And my job pays so little that I can't even pay rent. It's not like I go drinking or just kick back and relax. I work but it's just not enouch. Also I have dogs so for me it's not just that I need to take care of me. I need to be able to take care of my dogs first and for all. They are like kids for me and their needs come first. I still see myself as an adult. It's hard to live at home because sometimes I feel like a failure or when people look at you like you are crazy for living at home. I seriously at this moment don't have a choice, but I'm working on it each and everyday. I've struggled even tho I live at home. My friends have had so much of financial help from their parents, to them paying rent or buying them cars. They live with their boyfriends and split their rent. They've had such a helpfull kick at their independent life and I won't have that and I won't move in with somebody so you know. To each their own.

STORY TIME 😂 So my one aunt (let’s call her Mel) was pestering my cousin about personal things that was making her upset and she wouldn’t drop the topic so my other aunt (Joan) got upset and told Mel to stop talking since it wasn’t her business. Well Mel didn’t listen and went too far so Joan decided to drag her outside and that’s where they began fighting all out and then Joan kicked Mel and her husband and daughter out and then everything went back to normal Hope you all enjoyed!

i'm 30 and still feel lost, i'm trying to figure it out, julien's advice was stellar. To all of you in your early 20's work hard and don't take the 'easy' jobs to get like retail, as trust me, you will get stuck and years fly by quickly. I feel like i blinked and i was 30. If you have a talent or a passion go for it, full force and put your heart and soul into it. You will have plenty of time to party, don't waste time like I did. Move out as soon as you can, independently. I moved with boyfriends and now found myself back at home.

This is the reason why people come to you for advice - because you're honest and open, and your approach to advice is very honest and efficient. This is rare even in professional counseling. You guys are great. Appreciate you.

Everyone has struggles and is likely also trying to figure things out. It's easy to think others have it figured out because all we see is the good things that they show. Success is not measured by fame or money, but by happiness. And you'll never be content with your life if you have the unrealistic expectations of others' lives. Just focus on your life and what makes you happy and that's all you'll need. Focus on the things that you're lucky to have, a job, a place to live, friends and family you love, health...

Build your self esteem. The harsh reality of life is there will ALWAYS be someone who is better than you. the other reality is there are people comparing themselves to you RIGHT NOW and feeling like a failure because compared to them YOU have it all figured out. I'm 22 years old and living with my parents, and my daughter who turned 5 months old today. The father broke up with me the day before I went into labor and moved across the country when she was three weeks old, so there was no way for me to afford living on my own. He has not sent any money or anything for her since. My daughter and I are back in my old room and I'm working part time and grandma babysits while I make just enough money to take care of anything the baby needs plus the few basics I need. I'm not sure how long I'm going to be back with my parents but I am extremely lucky given the circumstances and you have to swallow your pride for your children's benefit and accept help when its offered. Not how I envisioned my life would be at 22 but it could definitely be worse!

talk to your parents - ask them if there is any way you can switch classes/teachers. I had an English teacher who was not nice by the 3rd week I was asking my dad if he could move me, he contacted the school and within 2 days I was moved to a diff class/diff teacher. This was in 10th grade. It was also lucky for me as the teacher I moved to had known me as a previous student so was agreeable to accepting me in his class. You're there to learn and it's hard for you to do that when you feel "disregarded and ridiculed" .....would be a good way to explain it to your parents, not simply "teacher is mean to me".....=) Good Luck Lena, and at most it's only another month or two then school is over for the year....no more of that teacher anyway!

lena15 No way!!! Me too for an English class.... :/ and he gave me a stare after i asked a question. But that stare he gave me was the "Are you stupid?" Look. Just bc i wanted something clarified. He even got his favorite students who always kiss his ass to laugh along at me for asking. It doesn't matter what the question was, but it bothered me, I felt so doubtful. Especially bc that morning i woke up trying my best to think positive. I also have social anxiety& mumble/stutter but feel shamed. When i hyperventilate before i raise my hand and all eyes are on me for participating.

the advice about moving out, although said with good intentions, is really not true. i'm 27 and still live at home because i went to university for 4 years then back to college for another 2 and the economy where i live is terrible. i can't apply to entry level jobs because i'm overqualified and i can't apply to jobs i want because i have no experience. finding multiple jobs to get you to the point to where you actually can move out is DIFFICULT, speaking from experience. so i have no shame in saying; "YES, i still live with my parents because my school debt is outrageous and i can't find a job that pays a living wage" just my two cents.

sarah seriously! Don’t get me wrong, if I could find a job that actually paid a wage that was acceptable for living or even getting multiple jobs I’d definitely move out. But I feel like their answer to that question just made me feel even worse about my situation :(

ivana I'm an introverted social person, I don't like living alone so I'm still at home because I want to, it's good for my mental health and my parents love it too, it's a very big house and they don't like it too quiet. Not to mention two dogs and many situations that make our arrangement quite agreeable. Just share responsibilities and don't leech if you're able to help out, like making the dinner and holding your own weight financially in any way that's possible, show that you love and appreciate your old folks xx

I feel the same way! I was on my own for college for a year and frankly I was lonely. I didn't hate it, I just like living with my family more. I like my parents, we do a lot of stuff together, and we help each other out. I don't know why I would want to change that and give up my contentment just for some intangible sense of independence.

I don't think "moving out of your parents house when it's a little less than convenient" is good financial advice. My advice would be 1. GOALS, Make goals, short term, midterm and long-term, these should be realistic. And time sensitive but not too rigorous that it stresses you out 2. BUDGET Based around your financial goals devise a budget, what percentage of your income do you need to put aside for your bills the things you have to pay for no questions asked then how much you will save towards the goals you have set. 3. Emergency fund, you should be able to cover up to six months of expenses should you lose your job. Make sure you have an emergency fund before you move out. Then the rest is disposable income. You should build financial responsibility slowly, get used to having to pay bills, I started with paying my phone bill. Also you should work on building your credit, getting a credit card that offers rewards and use your credit card for things you would already be purchasing, things like gas or lunch and pay it off in full every month. Having good credit shows you are reliable and will aid you when you want to get an apartment . Also remember that you will need to save for furniture and utensils for your home. Begin buying the odd item here and there before you move out so you don't have to splash out a bunch of money as soon as you move in. I get that going balls deep can build character but it's also a fast track to debt, depression and an endless cycle of poverty.

Only because no one else has said it yet, but I think "less than convenient" should be translated more as "you're going to need to budget more strictly and not go out every night" (ie more close to what you describe) rather than "when you aren't sure you can actually make money to cover your life". Though A+ advice on emergency funds - mine has been super helpful! And I often find it gets way larger than intended and BANG! long term savings/retirement fun money!

Some advice to everyone who is feeling like they have no motivation or you're feeling like an idle body or you're just stuck in a rut: Don't think that you have to do something major to feel accomplished. Sometimes simply getting out of bed is your major accomplishment for the day and that is so totally fine. When you feel worthless/useless, remind yourself to not compare your day to someone else's. You getting out of bed this morning was awesome, you brushing your hair today was awesome, you eating some breakfast was awesome! Always keep that in the back of your head and as you start to build up those small things as big accomplishments, the small things will come easier and the big tasks won't feel as daunting. Sometimes you have to start all over again to build yourself back up, and starting small is a perfect way to do that. You are doing a great job, and you're doing it at your own perfect pace. Keep trucking along

I have to say that your advice about working out really helped. I was never someone who could say that is in shape and I was never into sports, I am more science and arts kind of a person. From time to time, I would start to work out but I would feel like I needed to do like an hour or hour and a half long workouts every day and I would end up so sore and I would quit pretty quickly. So then this November I started doing 20 minutes of just crunches, squats ets and I didn't push myself too hard. Some weeks I did two days a week, sometimes 5 times but for the first time the working out stuck. I realized that I like individual workouts and that I like doing it at my own tempo. And now today I started my gym membership because I want to start lifting weights 😁 so, overall, great advice, thanks guys

As far as them talking about working and having fun, I found that when I was in college, the best way to write a paper was to decide on a show you wanna watch and after you finish each paragraph, watch an episode. But do not stop this process until its done. After you finish the last paragraph, watch another episode then go back and read the whole paper and edit it. This always helped me in a lot of ways. Setting small goals with small rewards and having structured break times is so helpful. Also by the time I've written a few paragraphs, I would end up thinking more about what I was gonna write when i got back to it when I was watching the show. I would actually get excited to get back to writing. I know this was long but maybe it'll help someone looking for a new way to be productive.

I’m so lost at the moment, I can’t get up for school, I can’t do any work, I can’t eat or sleep. The only way I can describe how I feel is lost, I’m only 17 and I feel like there’s nothing worth doing in life. I lie in bed in the morning and just feel numb and most often than not I just don’t get up. But both of you help me feel okay when I watch your videos/streams, I know it’s silly and doesn’t seem much but you do help me smile, I’m still at a loss but you distract me from that, and it’s so important that I have this distraction of happiness that I find in your work, I honestly don’t think I’d be here if it weren’t for the both of you. I've always hated how inactive I've been, and Jenna's advice to just do SOMETHING is way easier for me to latch onto and want to try. I can do a walk or buy some small dumbbells and lift easily everyday, but going to a gym is a lot of time to commit for the travel/time spent and the money it can cost plus working out in front of people has always made me nervous. Honestly, I've never felt more motivated to try to start moving for even 10-20 minutes every other day to every day to get started. Thank you Jenna.

I had anxiety when I started to learn how to drive and I had a fair few panic attacks behind the wheel. I'm not going to lie, it is scary at first, but get a good instructor and explain to them the situation, make sure you're comfortable (as can be) and go for it! In my experience, once you make something you have anxiety about a routine, it's easier to deal with because it becomes just that - routine! Anxiety is a bitch, but you will kick yourself one day if you decide not to do something out of fear... that's letting the anxiety win! Don't let it win, because you can do it! Good luck

I just got my driver's license and I'm 21. In all honesty, I wouldn't have been able to do it without the support from my boyfriend and my mom. They pushed me when I really needed pushed. I have had anxiety since I could remember and because I've been in a few car accidents and fender benders, it made me terrified of cars and being on the road, specifically me driving and being responsible for this "death machine". The support I got helped me remember that it ISNT a death machine if you yourself are careful and aware. I've had plenty of panic attacks behind the wheel and it's the most terrifying thing in the world, but if I can pull over safely to call yourself down, I can remember that in the moment, I was driving, panicking, and was able to pull over and do it all by myself. You also have to be your own cheerleader if you don't have a good support system. Even if you just sit behind the wheel while it's parked, YOU DID AMAZING. Hype yourself up!! You have to tell yourself "You got this. You're an awesome and SAFE driver!!" Even if you don't believe it, still tell yourself that instead of the negative things you're thinking. I KNOW how hard it is, it took me 5 years to get my license, but I did it. It IS possible. Also, go at your own pace. Who cares how long it takes, just as long as you face your fears a small step at a time, each step is a HUGE deal! I'm sorry this is a big jumbled mess but I hope it helped a little bit.

Hi Jenna and Julien, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so genuine and real. The last couple years of my life have been incredibly painful and lonely as I am battling c-ptsd and anxiety, and because of that I've lost connection with a lot of my friends and almost my entire family. but I've been watching and re-watching all of your videos and podcasts and vlogs nearly every day and I think it has helped me keep my self somewhat sane. This podcast came at such a perfect time in my life since this month I've finally found the courage to go out and get a job working at a bakery. I listened to this podcast during my work break and I just finished doing my first workout today because of Julien's suggestions. I love you guys SO fucking much, you've made me laugh and cry so much, and when I've been at my absolute lowest, feeling like I literally want to give up and leave this earth I try to remind myself that good people like you exist, and I'm so fucking grateful for you both. I'm really afraid of other people but you guys give me hope. Anyways this is really sappy and a little embarrassing but I've been watching you for years and I feel like you're a part of my life in some weird way. I remember when I was in the 8th grade I discovered Jenna's channel, I'm 23 now and I love watching you guys grow together and it helps me want to grow too. I'm so fucking proud of you Jenna for working so hard to buy a gorgeous home. Maybe I'll get there someday too. You have touched my heart and made me smile when I had nobody. I love the Dink Family and I'm glad I came to the comments! I'm 23 and currently living with my parents. When I graduated High School i went into the work force and paid rent to them and was well off but not ready to move out. When I got laid off is when I decided to go back to school full time and work part time. I'm still at home and don't pay as much rent as I did when I was full time working, but I still pay money to my rents and do a bunch of stuff around the house. I know I am so very privileged to have this opportunity, but it definitely hurt a lot when I heard Jenna, someone I have looked up to and admired for years, talking about being independent from parents and the way she did it. I felt ashamed for the life that I have been living based on what she said. Which I know is ridiculous but i think it's hard to hear truths like this from someone you admire. I love you Dink Fam and your contributions and your own advise about living with parents still. I cant wait till I move out on my own with my Fiancé, but I'm just so scared of struggle. And I feel so horrible for the people who have no choice, and that just adds to my emotions on this. I know they're hearts were in the right place, and although this podcast is heavy and hurt, it's real. And if anything I think it will really help and inspire, not just me, but a lot of people, to put in a lot of hard work to get to where they personally need to be in life.

OMG! I so know what Jenna is speaking about when it comes to the procrastination thing. I've always worked off of the reward system myself. I also have chronic Fatigue syndrome along with Fibromyalgia so as I've gotten older, physical duties like organizing and cleaning has gotten harder for me. I've gotten such anxiety too with not being able to get things organized like I've wanted to. I've learned though instead of going hog wild and spending hours and hours doing something just to wind up in horrid pain and then sleep for days afterwards and still not even really finish the project, I now just take breaks inbetween those projects. When it came to school, college and grad school, I needed to do the whole outline and footnotes and such first myself. I also rarely ever had to study much because I learned that I retained information best by taking notes by writing them instead of typing them or recording the class. If you find out what works best for you if you just take some time and think about it, life will become just a little bit easier for sure.

I am 19, and spent a majority of the past 3 years combating homelessness, a poor family structuer were mental health plays a critical role in the actions of certain members, and trying to find a footing amongst the madness. I am taking responsibility for the parts I played in and working out complaints/excuses in my mentality (no matter how validated I feel). I am currently building the momentum of living independently and laying groundwork for my life. Jenna and Julien, you perfectly put in perspective information I knew but did not embrace. I felt the hesitation of fear and faliure dawning and was reassured after listening, sending lots of love and warmth in your direction.

You guys should play a game with the bachelor/ bachelorette on the podcast. You have cards with: •contestants names •occupation (probs a dental hygienist) •what they do for their first impression when they step out of the limo You eliminate the first 3 girls based off of their first impression. The rest of the girls are numbered. You have scenarios for each contestant (ie. contestant number 2 won’t stop interrupting the other contestants 1 on 1 time with the bachelor or bachelorette OR contestant number 5 has IBS and is constantly running to the bathroom) You pick a few scenarios for each week and eliminate the girls/ guys It’s also your chance to play producer and make the girls/ guys do what you want... scandalous 😋

Broke vegan here with some tips! - I've found Asian and Hispanic foods are super simple to be make vegan and are also sooo cheap - Save veggie scraps and freeze them. Once you have a decent amount make soup stock! I'll make quarts at a time and freeze them until I want to cook with it. - Buy ramen but instead of using the flavor packets use seasoning or different sauces to make them yummy. Also veggie stock could be used with this. -Buy in bulk when you can especially rice, pasta and other grains - Some food stores have broken cashews for half the price of regular cashews. No idea why they're cheaper bc they're literally the same but it's heaven sent. - don't buy frozen veggies burgers, it's so easy to make your own and it's a lot cheaper! - Don't be afraid to go to a food bank if you need to. They're there to help people. Just say you're vegan to try and get specific canned/non perishable foods, or take what they give you and donate the stuff you can't eat back/give it to someone else that's broke

Talking about the uselessness. Jenna you had a great piece of advice in a previous video that I still think about to this day. You said you strive to do at least one useful thing every day and that can have a snowball effect. I think you specifically mentioned taking the doggos on a walk. And if you can put on clothes and suit up the dogs and go on a walk then you can do anything lol and I really liked that idea. And I've found that I now get a lot of my house chores done in the morning before work. Which helps me stay productive all day. Thanks for the advice cast guys. Stay awesome

Love the workout advice about finding a routine that you actually enjoy as well as a challenge. I have been skateboarding for 7 years and its one of the only athletic things I do. I get asked questions about how I stay in shape. And honestly, I love the activity so much that all that falls away and I never think about the cosmetic / health part. Only when someone brings it up do I reflect upon how truly healthy of a routine it is. Absolutely, find an activity you actually enjoy so you can lose yourself while making gains. Much love and great podcast.

This was actually really helpful, thank you. I have been feeling so stuck and useless recently and it is a rut that I want to get out of but just can't seem to. Four months ago I hugged my brother too hard, heard/felt a crack, and have had pretty extreme pain since due to inflammation of the cartilage around my ribs. I went from 7 2-hour crew practices a week to none in an instant. When it first happened, I still showed up to practice every day and asked my coach what I could do to help around the boathouse, and it was very useful for me and my mental health, as well as for my coach. At a certain point, though, there was nothing left for me to do. Now I'm still going to crew every day but have just sat around, watching my friends do the thing that I love doing, knowing that I physically can't and not being able to do anything about it. It really sucks, and I don't know how to make things better. So thanks. Your advice is actually really helpful and I, as well as the rest of the dink fam, thank you.
