Burt is royalty in my eyes. He along with Don Kirshner, Dick Clark, & Don Cornelius allowed a kid from flyover country in the midwest to see the acts being heard on radio. I've always been a very visual person and adding the love of my life, music, with the visuals was pure heaven. The biggest thank you of all is allowing us to relive those days in an unedited form with this channel. I can't express enough just how much it means to me to have this gift. Something to look forward to and treasure each week in the sunset of my life. God bless you, Burt.

Thank you, Burt! My second favorite band after The Beatles is Sparks. I first saw them on the Midnight Special in 1974 (and they are still going strong today and more popular than ever!) I waited almost 50 years to see the footage of the 4 songs they performed and I was sort of bugging this channel to show it, and they did! Lots of great memories of lots of great bands.

@@Dave-lq2le My point was not all the best music artists of the 70s appeared on these 2 shows. Don't bother replying, won't be engaging with you any further.

Burt! I miss midnight special soooooo much! Your right, it was so depressing when the show was over, it just went to the national anthem and then snow…

Thank you Burt! The Midnight Special allowed me to see such a diversity of performers , it reminded me of KAKC, the local top 40 station, full of great music! We used to stay the night with the kid nextdoor, he had a color TV and a mom whi would let us stay up. This allowed me to see, and fall in love with, Gladys Knight ♥️. So many memories, and now all the knowledge i get from others in the live chat. God Bless you for sharing these episodes/memories!

Interesting that neither Cher nor Tony Orlando were on the MS when they had #1 record in 1973, 1974, & 1975. I'm curious if that was due to their own TV variety shows occurring at the time or if they weren't considered appropriate acts for the program. But a big THANK YOU to Burt for welcoming Tony when he returned from his hiatus in 1978 after battling some really tough times. I was so impressed with how Tony conquered his demons and never looked back. One of the greatest comeback stories ever.

I can only hope this is a reoccurring visit and I could listen to Burt all day. One area yet to be covered was the decision on the guest host for the week and also the decision behind Helen being the permanent host for a number of years. I recall in an interview Helen reflecting on her time on the program and how years later people would ask her what the artists who appeared were like. She said she rarely met them because her introductions were recorded separately and then inserted into the program at the appropriate times. But that can't be completely true because I recall her performing a number of duets with guests.

Thanks so much, Mr. Sugarman, Joe, and Mike! Great stories! You answered a question I had thought about but didn’t submit regarding acts that were used in multiple shows. I loved the Elvis story! I'm a fan! If you could get Steve Martin, Jeff Lynne, Steven Tyler, or any of the '70s rock band era folks on, that would be awesome! Probably all long shots, but you asked. 😊 Merry Christmas to Mary and Burt, Joe, Mike, and all The Midnight Special KZbin staff! 💜🎄🎅
