This was a fascinating talk. Really enjoyed your personal experiences from living in Courcelette - walking the frontline and visiting the cemetery so often.

Very informative presentation. Thank you. I am researching the life of my wife's great uncle, a Private in the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He died on October 11, 1916 in the trenches east of Courcelette, holding the trenches with his battalion. He was originally from Crewe, England and immigrated to Toronto. He was 34 years old and is buried in the Contay British Cemetary. Someday I will come to pay my respects.

Thank you and that’s interesting - Contay was on the main evacuation for CEF casualties from Courcelette with a Casualty Clearing Station there.

Always entertaining as it was eye opening to scale and horror of the Great War.

Yes the scale of it is often hard to comprehend.

I visited the British Courcelette cemetery in May 2024. My grandfather served here with the 7th Battalion CEF. Wounded through the leg, and evacuated on September 26,1916. Canon Scott wrote about this area in his book “The Great War as I Saw It” including visiting the regimental aid post next to the sunken lane, on September 26, maybe the same time my grandfather was there on a stretcher.
