The Beyer seemed to have a phase issue in the midrange, probably a narrow dip in response caused by some sort of cancellation. It doesn't sound bad, but the 57 has a more natural midrange.

i get the impression the beyer is more intended as a (snare?) drum mic, due to the shape of it. but i dont know. *tangent alert* i'm kind of bored with the snare sounds i've heard in music in the last 10 years, and i guess it's due to the 57 being the "industry standard" for such things.... they usually sound dull for some reason... this vid doesn't do anything with snares, so i dont know why i'm bringing it up... i use programmed drums anyways, so i dont even mic drums reallly... anyways both these mics are fine, i guess. this ends my useless comment.

I am mostly in complete agreement based on the blind examples. Much preferred the 57 for all vocals, and the TG I51 for electric guitar. However, for acoustic guitar I didn't hear much difference between the two and thought on that application they were interchangeable.

I am surprised by just how much more I liked the sm57 more than the tg151 especially for the electric guitar. I can't tell m uch different with vocals but I might've liked the tg more for that. I usually don't go against what the comments say but this time I'm like the total opposite, wild.

I'd guess that mic A is the SM57, it has a little more presence in the low end, mic B is a little bit more flat. Actually I'd say B is almost inverted compared to A, with more upper end presence. Yeah, I'm not surprised at all. I have a feeling the TGI51 will probably sound really good on drums. Oh yeah and I'd like to add, for some reason this video didn't show up in my normal sub feed, I ended up finding it on my main page recommended.

There is not a mic like the SM57 that is usb. The AT2005USB you're using would be one of the closest alternatives. From Shure the MV7 would be an option as well, but I have no idea about compatibility with consoles.

If I'm streaming should I get a sm57 or a condenser microphone like the neat worker bee?
@DapperDanLovesYou
@DapperDanLovesYou 2 жыл бұрын
TLDR; Of those two, the SM57+A2WS is the better choice! I prefer its sound, and I think works better in the streaming environment. End address microphones are convenient because they can take up less of your vision while being close to your mouth! Dynamics are also convenient for their general lower sensitivity (heavy voice coil) which allows them to reject background noise and sound. That heavy voice coil also lends to a reduction in high frequencies, which can be more comfortable to listen to over long periods. The SM57 is a trickier recommendation, because it does not have any kind of plosive protection built in. Shure sells a foam windscreen (A2WS) that screws on, and it helps a lot! But it's not perfect and will require some mic technique to avoid errant plosives. Condenser microphones tend to be more sensitive and will often pick up background sounds (keyboard, Air Con, busy streets, other people, etc.). However, if you plan on using your microphone for MORE than streaming, condensers tend to be more flexible in their use-cases. That being said, most broadcast mics are dynamics for a reason: they isolate well and trend towards a warmer, intimate tone.

Sometimes he does treated/untreated room comparisons, but not this time. Also, keep in mind that everyone's environment is different from computer fans, hollow walls, interfaces, etc. Watch reviews of people using this mic in untrreated rooms with unequalized settings to get the full story on these mics especially the SM57.

@@wellnesspathforme6236 I clearly heard the difference, listening on HD560S albeit through my phone (mic A - warmer, less crisp; mic B - the other way around), I always though of the SM57 as a crisp and not too warm mic, compared to other dynamics - especially on drums and electric guitar, but I guess I was wrong about some stuff here and there :D

Initially I thought the vocal sounded very similar, then I switched headphones to Sennheiser HD650. Definitely prefer the tonality of (A) SM57. Mic (B) TG i51 sounded a little tinny. For the close vocal though, I thought the TG i51 sounded much better (more natural). I also preferred the TG i51 at 3 inches, but only slightly. The more distant vocal test, I don't see the point of that as the as dynamics are not sensitive enough for that application, unless you use a booster such as a FetHead. All that said, I really think the major difference between the two mics is that the SM57 can be hand held while the TG i51 form factor does not lend itself to that application at all. The handling noise in of TG i51 sounds like it's under water too. For the music test: Electric guitar, no significant difference. Acoustic guitar, B sounded more open, A sounded slightly muddy. Not a lot in it though. Vocal & instrument together. Very similar, hard to say. I like the ending when you go down in vocal tone, B handled that well but we didn't get to hear that with A, so I don't know for sure, I just suspected that B may have done that better. So that was the SM57. So, overall, I think I would go with the SM57 as I see it as more versatile & doing the job well. I do own one though, so may perhaps have some confirmation bias around that purchase. I think the TGi51 has a place where it's low end proximity boost and mid attenuation may be preferred. The SM57 just has a long low end roll off, so is very different in that part of the spectrum, both have some presence boost. Just depends what you want to do with this response feature I guess.
