Totally loving Fitzy's violin solo! Totally awesome. This is a very giving composition, I think; it lets people pick it up and run with it, do their own thing with it. I’m pretty sure I heard Steve Kuhn’s version years ago but it didn’t grab me. Now I’m hearing all these other versions and the tune’s inner nature comes out in different ways on each. That solo section in the middle though, Shawn Christie on guitar and Fitzy on that incredible violin just slays me. It’s bringing me back to The Mahavishnu Orchestra - John McLaughlin and Jerry Goodman on A Lotus on Irish Streams. The sheer brilliance and tight communion of their playing on that is I think matched here. These moments are rare, in any kind of music. [I’ve removed comments I had made about the guitar sounding a bit “thin,” maybe cuz of being connected right to the board rather than being live in the room. So it may be, but I’ve grown to like it. Not to say I wouldn’t want to hear them play this live, mind you!]
