Thanks for doing this critique Jonah! It was really helpful! “Black” is actually a five page poem. If you click on the next arrow button at the bottom on that page it will move through more of the story. This series is actually about my relationship with a kid from this school who always wore all black every single day no matter what. It is really about the personification that came out his regularity of his absolutely never changing outfit styles. That is where I get masculinity out of the color. I am almost unable to separate this color from Kai so for me it developed his gender as well as the other parts that make up who he is. So for me it isn’t a social construct like how we decided blue is for boys its just my own experiential reading into it. For someone else I’d bet black reminds them of a woman and feminine characteristics. Originally this poem just started talking about Kai who is a person that readers won’t know. I thought I could gain some common ground by spending a little time talking about a color that everybody knows and then ease in to the story that way. Sorry, I realize I should have clarified these points a little more!

i'm afraid you've mixed up black and white haha black is the absence of colour, and white is all the colours. great video once again! it's funny, at times i found myself thinking something about a poem, and a moment later you were saying what was on my mind haha like with the poem with the tree rings and childhood vs adulthood. i would have loved to see that concept explored. but i think kip is headed in the right direction for sure! i would have also liked to have seen more showing and less telling, because there were a few bits where i thought that yeah, what you're saying plainly is alright, but it could be phrased in a way that makes the reader really *feel* what you're saying, more than just understand the sentence they're reading. great job kip, keep at it!

I love how in the review there is some question about whether about whether black is the absence of color or whether it is all of the colors. This discussion perfectly feeds into the following line: "we just don't pay enough mind to this phenomenal occurrence." Even though this statement seems wrong at first it is worth investigating (and as far as my research tell it appears to be the absence of color.) I learned all kinds of interesting things about black in this poem series (which is actually five page in total.) For an example there is a specific word for the color of plumage that is found specifically on ravens and crows! Thank you for the encouragement.
