Point Character Drawing by TACO, published by Lezhin, English version + Korean. In this book preview / flick through video I wanted to show this drawing book, that I would describe as simplified anatomy for artists of all levels. The content is split between 2 fairly small books with a total of 436 pages between the 2 books. The book does not contain much text, which for some people can be a big pro, myself included as long as the imaged are descriptive enough themselves. That being said there is some English text along with the original Korean text too. I would describe this book as a more managable 'bitesize' way to learn human anatomy, it reminds me a little of the Tom Fox Draws anatomy book and also the Morpho book series, I have added some links below.
Whilst I think the book is useful to anyone learning form and anatomy, some features, such as the face do tend to work a little more towards a stylised technique such as anime / manga, however, I still think the fundamentals are the sam. I have spoken to a company in Korea that have clarified 'The Secret Character drawing' book by Taco, is currently only available in Korean, but is a different book ( I have seen some people mentioning it being the same as the 'Point Character Drawing' book before the English release, this seems to be incorrect).

i have had these for a while. In art I dont believe in short cuts, but taco's method are so simply the feel like it lol and he is very complex too

Yeah there's no way around hard work with art, but these certainly help XD do you have Tacos other book? I am curious what his secret character drawing book is like, unfortunately that one is only in Korean. Thanks for watching!

@@SketchedbySte I have his other book. Point Character Drawing (as seen here), is mostly figure drawing/anatomy. His other book (731 pages), is basically everything with designing characters--he basically throws everything in there and the kitchen sink, so it's not as focused as the Point Character Drawing books, and it's more a random assortment of tips. I use a Google app to translate it in realtime.

@@DennisCNolasco Would you recommend the other book / character design book by Taco? His drawing style seems simplistic and perfect for teaching anatomy and the human body / perspective, but I can't picture how it would read for character design. I will check out some vids!

@@SketchedbySte Hmm, personally I just use it for reference if looking for something that I need. I don’t use it as a book to study from. It’s kind of like the Etherington Brothers ‘How to think when you draw’ books-a whole bunch of random tips. I guess you can think of it as an encyclopedia of character design. I think making a translated printout of the TOC would be useful for it.

@@DennisCNolasco I can never make up my mind about those etherington brothers books ( baring in mind I don't own any ) sometimes I think they look awesome and a lot of fun! And then sometimes I just think it wouldn't be much use to me and I would probably find it more efficient just to google what I need at the time, as it would be difficult to find the specific topic, and I am under the impression they don't go into great detail. Kind of looks like something as a younger artist without specific direction would be fun to have

Hey sorry for the delay. From memory there is some information on proportions relative to other body parts but I will try remember to dig these books out and look through them at some stage this weekend to check. Thanks for watching

from what I´ve seen korean anatomy books simplify and make it more functional than the western books which are more detailed but way harder to learn.

You might be onto something. I hadn't looked into many Korean art books / anatomy drawing books before this, but now that I have started, I have found some incredible finds! It's just a shame a lot of them aren't in English yet. I just found a chinese anatomy / simplification book that someone suggested to me in the comments and it looks absolutely incredible, I will post a video when it arrives, thanks for watching!

Hi Sketched thanks a lot for showing this book^^. I have a question, how would you use this book? It’s doesn’t show how to practice sadly so I’m hesitant to buy it …
@SketchedbySte

Hey, you're welcome thanks for watching! Hmm that's a really good question, and I guess with these ones there isn't one set way. However, it is broken up into different body parts, so I would start with a body part of your choosing, for example the torso, starting with the pecs, then abs, obliques and so on, or if you struggle with one part in perticular, looking at that specific chapter might help you over come obstacles / could be a good way to fill in any gaps in your knowledge. I think it would also work well alongside other anatomy resources, for example I am currently studying the proko anatomy course, which is great and detailed, but a little overwhelming at time, so I refer back to this book on parts I don't understand. It's also a pretty easy book to flip through and just pick up some tips along the way compared to a text heavy book.

Hey, I see you posted this comment on another video too but here is my reply in case you missed it - It's definitely a big question to answer. But the Andrew loomis book 'fun with a pencil' might be a good start ( although it is quite old now admitedly). I also think something that is quite 'fun' and generalised for information might be good like the Brett Bean DRAW book (link here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJq8iIuLn9eiY7s ) that one will probably give you a basic understanding of most subjects in art, but without going too deep of focusing on one area in perticular. If you are hoping to be a character artist / designer, anatomy and gesture books might also be a good one for you, there's an awful lot out there to choose from. Again Andrew loomis 'figure drawing for all it's worth' is a good one and has all the info you really need, but I did find it a tough read personally. Morpho books might be an inexpensive way to start and see if you like the teaching style of the book - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWKkaGhsnK57ZpY Also I found Tom Fox Draws book really good not only for anatomy but also for getting an understanding of shapes in space, probably the most important fundamental. here is a link, let me know what you think to them - kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4CTk32Pa95-oqs
