Point Man - Set in Vietnam in April 1968 - three months after the tide-turning Tet Offensive and one month after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. - Point Man is the story of a U.S. Army fire team fractured by racial tensions, moral crises, and the crushing pressures of combat in a war nobody wants to fight. Andre "Casper" Allen, a rough-edged ideologue, finds his radical politics put him at odds with the squad's machine gunner, Silas Meeks. When their search-and-destroy mission in the Mekong Delta goes terribly wrong, both men find themselves pitted against each other and their recalcitrant platoon commander, Lieutenant Sutter.
2018. Stars: Joshua Dela Cruz, Jimmy Ace Lewis, Matthew Ewald

I was in the Vietnam draft; but never got selected and so thankful I am. My brother volunteered in 1969; while I and a friend hitch-hiked to Woodstock, from Arlington, Va in the summer of that year. He was a medic and he came back a bit messed up psychologically; but hell who wouldn't have. And many of the returning soldiers were totally disrespected for the job they were ordered to do and had to do to survive. It was a major political blunder to ever have gone there in the first place. My idea is to sen all the Congressman and Senators over first....next time we have a war !!!!!

My dad (lifer) was killed in his second tour aug 70 . I respect and care about the description of Vietnam vets. This movie and so many are crap. Including, stone’s Platoon. I remember my dad being ridiculed, spit on , I remember my hippie teacher not wanting me share about my dad in class in 1968 because we didn’t talk about Vietnam , I remember my dad telling my uncles if the bombing continued the war would end soon, I remember shooting hoop and seeing the infamous car pull up with two uniformed officers asking to speak to my mom and I remember knowing I’d never see my dad again. I’m proud of my dad, I’m proud of every Vietnam vet that came home to no parades, no respect except those that loved them . Never ceases to amaze me that the way Vietnam Veterans are treated and perceived has never changed. "Baby Killers" "Rapists" Folks who comment here clearly are no different than the folks we had to deal with when we returned so many years ago. What you think you know is what you see in depictions like this. It really doesn't get to me like it use to, it is simply what is expected.

I joined the US Army in 1983, the majority of Men who Trained me, and Prepared my Comrades and I for Combat were Veterans of the war(s) in Vietnam. What they Paid for In Blood & Tears, I was able to Earn with Sweat, and a few tears. My fellow NCOs and I passed those Lessons on to other soldiers. I deployed multiple times to various "hot spots" before September 11th 2001; then I re-joined and again deployed multiple times as part of the "Global War upon Terrorists... Thanks to the Lessons I Learned from those Veterans of Vietnam, my fellow NCOs and I brought everyone of our Men Home! We were Blessed, we were Lucky, most importantly we were Well Trained and Prepared! Of all of the "fruit salad" and "Gee-Gaws" I was awarded, I earned my CIB (Combat Infantryman's Badge) and my Paratrooper Wings!

The V.V's you want to get the full picture from are the ones who BEEN there......... but were against the war. THEIR perspective will give you a clearer understanding of why the American citizens didn't respect the soldiers. PEOPLE WANTED THE TROOPS TO DO WHAT WAS RIGHT......... STAND DOWN. Not go because they were called to go. This was not WWII. You have to understand something. That was an UGLY period in America's history. Racism was the norm. Presidents and politicians were being assassinated. The Mafia was strong. CIA and FBI was up to its tricks. Media was lying Big Time. Civil rights leaders were being assassinated. etc...etc.. But lets not degrade what the Hippies and Civil Rights leaders were trying to do. BE PATRIOTS....... and FIX THEIR COUNTRY. Hippies were ready for PEACE and an end to all this nonsense. The Troops fought. They had reasons to feel the way they did..... remember....... this was a war we got into over a LIE about the incident in the gulf of Tonkin. A war fought for money. The Troops fought anyway. People didnt respect them for it. There was no "We support the Troops" sentiment. That came about BECAUSE of Vietnam. Because of movies like this one that told the stories of the troops. Its not like Today's Iraq. Same Situation. Different type of generation. Different thought about America. Your military troops aren't honored because they go when they are told to. That's an AMERICAN ideal due to how America get's what it wants. Your troops are honored because they do what is right.

@@syriouskash537 Coming from a real Vietnam combat vet (2bde, 101st Airborne Division, 1966-1969), the most serious holes in this movie (and it is a movie), come from the lack of discipline depicted. Very similar to the movies, Platoon and Apocalypse Now. No Army officer would have let things become so chaotic that military discipline virtually disappears. No platoon would get "lost." Yes, this was a movie. However, war movies require some semblance of reality and credibility. You simply cannot have such large plot holes that stretch the bounds of that credibility. Movies like this tend to distort the image of the American soldier and give rise to mythologies perpetrated by the media of the "baby killing soldier." The how's and why's of how we got into the Vietnamese mess is insignificant when dealing with individual stories about troops on the ground. American troops fought more from a point of survival for themselves and their fellow soldier than some abstract ideological concept.

Totally unrealistic or real. No sweat on their fatigues. All new clothes, helmet covers, etc. We had no one talk or act like this. Also the stated geography was wrong as they said they were in the Delta (Mekong) (rivers/flat) which was IV Corp (the South), and the hills that were shown were in I Corp and II Corp. (North and Central Highlands). I was in I Corp. in Vietnam. All of our fellow soldiers were life and death to us. We depended on each other for everything, and we never forgot it.

Ahhhh. Just so you know. Hand grenades and smoke grenades were NEVER attached to anything by the grenade pin's split ring. The metal clips on the shoulder straps of the web suspenders were used to attach the butt pack or the sleeping bag carrier to it. Not for attaching hand grenades. The jungle would rip it off your gear or it might fall off in a fire fight without you knowing (bugger). But most of all, I just think no one in your squad would want you to carry it like that because you would look like a Fucking Cherry fresh in from the world.

I like how he was able to shoot at and kill all of the firing squad soldiers while not hitting a single Vietnamese right in front of them. And the VC victims somehow knew to stay put while they argued over their photo op details, but as soon as the guys were all shot, they knew to run, some without even looking back to see what happened.

This movie is absurd. It violated the Military Codes: Killing civilians, soldiers killed their superiors and comrades! Soldiers backbite their commanders. The Lieutenants acted exactly like Lieutenant Calley, who massacred the whole village of civilians. They all acted like barbarians, not civilians. I was a Captain in Infantry and graduated from Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia, in 1968. I don't believe most of the actions happened in this film. I will report this terrible movie to the Commander in Chief because the directors made bad images of U.S Soldiers and Americans. The world may consider U.S. Army like a bunch of savages or beasts. We Vietnamese had fought along with American soldiers. We admitted that some American soldiers did something awful wrong to our people, but not all. Among several hundred soldiers sent to Vietnam, a few soldiers raped and killed women in faraway countrysides. The others killed innocent people when they had a miscommunication. However, as I said, those happenings happened sometimes somewhere, but no soldiers shot their superiors point-blank like that. Conclusion: This is the worst movie in the world. It contradicted humanity and made bad examples of American soldiers in front of the world. There will be no country that ask U.S. Soldiers to come to their country even though their foes conquer them.

This not a documentary, instead this is a film made to entertain people. So I guess some licence was taken rather than the narrative being strictly correct. Even so, there is a sense that the American war in Vietnam was characterised by the worst of behaviors possible when soldiers and civilians mix in combat zones. All the ways we have developed to intermingle with each other in peace and respect are quickly abandoned as we become slowly feral and disconnected from an orderly society we have left behind.
