During Operation Iraqi Freedom, an Iraqi citizen (Nicholas Guilak) risks his life to help U.S. forces rescue a captive American soldier (Laura Regan).
Dramatizations of the capture and rescue of the Army supply clerk (Laura Regan) during Operation Iraqi Freedom, based on the account of Iraqi lawyer Mohammed Al-Rehaief (Nicholas Guilak), who risks his own life---and those of his wife and daughter---to inform U.S. forces of Private Lynch's whereabouts after he sees an Iraqi soldier slapping her at the hospital where his wife works as a nurse. The film's first 40 minutes are shown without interruption.
A TV docudrama that was literally thrown together within months following the dramatic rescue of Private Jessica Lynch in the first weeks of `Iraqi Freedom.' There was much skepticism for many who even considered working on the project do to the quick timing. To this day, rumor and innuendo still surround the facts. Handsomely produced and legitimately emotional at points, "Saving Jessica Lynch" isn't a great film, but it is decent.
NBC claims that this particular version of events are the story rights of Mohammed Al Rehaief, the Iraqi lawyer who risked his life and family by telling American Soldiers of Lynch's where abouts. Yet, the movie starts long before Al Rehaief's participation, and the circumstances surrounding events without Al Rehaief are apparent matter of fiction, creative conjecture, and public record, that the creators have handled well. But there will always be this question, that I hope critics will answer, who does this story really belong to?

So the unit that made first contact with the lawyer was a US Army psyop cell attached to the Marines. They sussed the importance of it, grabbed the guy and hauled ass to the battalion HQ. Their terp sussed out that the guy was on the level and that touched off the whole show. All the SOCOM and MARSOC guys were fighting each other to go on that raid.

As an army veteran (69 - 72) I'm wondering why there was no distance to the first turn (kilometers or miles)? The army hasn't really improved much. The decision should have been to go back to the beginning point rather than guess.

Glad to see this one up here. She had nothing to do with the movie, however. Though NBC offered her a ton of money-and though not filmed, CBS had a similar offer. She refused, doing the book with Rick Bragg instead. Still, a pretty decent movie, and I do remember it on NBC at the time (taped it off the air with VHS).

BIG, BIG, and I do mean a REALLY BIG THANK YOU to all of our military for the sacrifices you and your families endure to protect us and our country, especially these elite forces that work and sacrifice even more to be the best of the best! I do think that Ms Lynch also deserves special recognition for her bravery and honesty, specifically for AFTER SHE WAS BACK On US SOIL, for telling the actual true story of how she was captured. This young 19-20 year-old stood up to top military brass and a lying POS named George W. Bush who at the time were telling a story of Jessica heroically battling back at a near super-hero level at the Iraqis attacking her and her companions. Jessica had the courage to tell us that she really hadn't been able to shoot, or fight back effectively. And to me that kind of courage alone justified her getting her medals, though that wasn't originally why the liars awarded her the bronze. There aren't many people left after "the greatest generation" with that kind of bravery and honesty in my opinion. So to Jessica, wherever you are. I THANK YOU for your service and sacrifice both before and after your capture, but I wanted to thank you specifically for "bucking the big boys" that lied about so many aspects of this war, SO THANK YOU AGAIN! P.S. for anyone wanting to give me grief over my words, just an FYI for you, I voted for that lying POS George W. Bush twice. The 1st time because he ran against a person who at that time I deemed as the biggest liar named Al "Climate Change" Gore. Knowing what I now know now about both of those POS's , I would have voted for Mickey Mouse again, but that was before he became a symbol for child grooming.

The Marines chased them down and caught them. When it was found that they were IDF soldiers, the Marines asked them why they fired at them. The IDF claimed they thought the Marines were "the enemy". No joke man. This was reported in the NY Times.

Rocket Propelled Grenades definitely would detonate that close, as it is detonated by a percussion fired fuse. The RPG rocket is issued with a protective rubber nose cap to prevent accidental detonation by an RPG crewmember. There is one anecdotal report that I remember hearing of where either an Army or Marine infantryman wounded an Iraqi insurgent trying to cross a street, and as the insurgent fell, he dropped his loaded RPG launcher into a curb, causing it to detonate and obliterate the insurgent.
