I don't know anything about music production but Inspector Norse has always been a favorite track of mine. Watched this video and it's extremely rare that we get something like this. Clearly a very skilled musician walking us through this track and all of its special parts and moments. It made me appreciate it even more. You seem like an excellent teacher as well. The most underwhelming audience response to a fantastic track

That's because there is no microphone aimed at picking up the audience reaction. It seems like their is only one mic, which is only picking up the host. Also we can't see their reaction, which only exacerbates the problem

Key signature is G minor (/Bb major) people, he's making it unnecessarily complicated with arguing for a mixolydian mode. Chords are VI -> VII (or IV -> V in Bb). Also, the modulation in playing G major rather than G minor is quite common, it's just to surprise the ear and feel more uplifting and it does not mean we have to consider changing the overall key signature to make sense of that modulation in the context of G minor.
@skioakenfull4 жыл бұрын
MT Although I agree that calling it G minor may simplify the understanding, I feel the key centre (tonic) as F. I deliberated over this however!
@MarcoTwellmann4 жыл бұрын
Ski Oakenfull Sure, and it’s not like “the math is off” or anything :) But when creating melody and other arrangement parts for that looped progression it’s a bit more intuitive and straightforward to tell students to play as if in Gm - like how the synth melody/riff accentuates the high ‘g’ and isolated would feel like a natural minor melody, or if you were to improvise other riffs, play a one-note rythm guitar, or even jammin blues scale, all would work and feel natural in Gm. I feel arranging in mixolydian, or any other mode for that matter, it is most often very melody-related, more so than purely defined by chord structure - like the tune Scarborough Fair :). But ofc its just my opinion - otherwise it was a great educational video!

Why didn’t you recreate the whole track only using the ARP like in the original? Surely this could have been used as an educational tool and example for sound design and limitations.
@skioakenfull4 жыл бұрын
I originally recreated all the sounds using Ableton Live devices and only replaced the bass sound later using an ARP 2600 to show the synth. I agree that it would have been cool to use the ARP plugin exclusively, but also very CPU heavy to have 4 or 5 instances of the Arturia ARP plugin running concurrently! It also would have doubled the length of the presentation which was live.
@LifeCoachTurtle4 жыл бұрын
