It’s sometimes necessary - it’s either captivity or death - but in those cases the animals shouldn’t be used for entertainment. At least not like this. Giving injured/unable to be released animals healthy spaces with a lot of mental stimulation and tying that in to education of the public is fine, so long as the animal’s well being is always put first.

The ballet appreciation video literally made me so happy and felt so seen. Non dancers don't understand what it takes to get on that stage and do a whole ballet en pointe all while still making it look beautiful and effortless. Any time I see videos of non dancers appreciating what we do not only on the stage but the process it takes before we get to the stage it just makes my day even more.

There are some animal species that just can't/shouldn't be kept in captivity because they're too self aware and their needs are beyond what humans can provide for them in a captive setting. Dolphins are among those species, and if you add to the mix that they're being used specifically for financial gain (like performing for entertainment, or photo ops), then you're also placing demands on them that aren't in their best interests, the potential for abuse and neglect is huge as the goal is money, not conservation or rehabilitation. Please don't support or promote any shows that use animals as their gimmick! ♥

But it is okay to support accredited organizations that have marine mammals that cannot be released in large, healthy spaces with enrichment, which often includes watching humans (ie being part of an exhibit). They’re often just as captivated by us as we are them! I think that’s a better option than the death these animals would otherwise face - admittedly, many people think the animals that cannot be released should be euthanized. But at the same time, people should learn how to recognize if a facility is legit vs abusive, and one of the best signs of abuse are forced animal performances. If there’s a showtime attached to it for a marine mammal and you’re guaranteed to see more than a feeding or the kind of training that reinforces behaviors for veterinary care, it’s probably abuse.

I agree. Every single Orca in captivity has a slumped dorsal fin because of lack of exercise and depression. I think aquariums should be outlawed unless they are breeding endangered species.

Or doing marine animal rescue. Sometimes, rescue or death is the only option, and in those cases I think we want aquariums! But definitely no wild caught, and in the case of very large marine creatures - anything larger than a beluga, probably - death has to be the option, because we simply don’t have the ability to create large enough aquariums.

My class got there pointe shoes about 4 months ago but my 2 friends had really big problems with them. My first friend got something Grishko (I don’t remember) and they were dying in the first 2 weeks she had to get new ones before December (mind you, her first pair) while my other friend they didn’t have soft shank in her size (I also think she got Grishko) so they gave her medium shank and she could barely get over the box, she also had to get new pointe shoes. They both have beautiful feet but are going in opposite directions, they both started medium shank but my first friend needs a hard shank and my second friend needs a soft shank.

I had so many awful issues with sinking in my first pair of point shoes. It really messed with my feet! I bruised a toenail so bad I had to have it removed within 2 classes!! Turns out I've got a very wide foot, but actually a very tapered foot. Switched to (what it was called at the time) a Grishko Maya and oh my word it felt better!!

I have a question for you. When I started dancing after 13 years of no dancing then opened a dance studio when I started dancing again I was fitted with Infinita’s absolutely loved them. Have since had my second ankle reconstructed because my tendon would snap on all skating jumps take off. Also coached and choreographed skating programs and designed skating costumes. What is a good comparison for Infinita 4D? When I danced it was 3 1/2 D had to go up after having children. My infinitas aren’t mush yet because I stocked up when I knew they were discontinued. With all the European sizing I have no clue to a comparison

The first time I saw a ballerina from the more advanced class with her thights OVER the leotard I almost had an heart attack 🤣 I have always hated thights and I could tolerate the dance ones just because I had to were something that made sure that they won't be falling down 🤭 Fun fact: I once managed to remove them without removing the leotard.

No, the dolphin video is awfully cruel. Even dolphins who cannot be reintroduced into their natural habitat for x,y,z reason deserve a big enclosure and a life free of the hellscape that performing for humans is. They do need stimulation, but not this kind. Please, let's stop sharing videos of torture just because it's kinda cute. Also, are their nose really strong enough to do that? We would not be awing for a 5yo on pointe so why are we for this??

Technically it’s not their nose - that’s at the top of their head. Their snout (technically the rostrum) is made of bone and so capable of the support, but just cuz they can doesn’t mean they should. Especially since it’s absolutely packed with nerve endings - about as many as their eyes, nose (blow hole), and …happy fun bits.

I can't imagine the strain on their spines. Similar to how someone would pick a turtle up by the edge of its shell on either side rather than supporting it from underneath. Two different animals, I get it, but can still be harmful.
