That last one is like: Tell me you know nothing about pointe shoe sizing without telling me you know nothing about pointe shoe sizing. Looks like they ordered pointe shoes in their street shoe size off of Amazon. 🤦🏻♀️ Also: I'm loving seeing more male dancers en pointe nowadays! Even as "recently" as when I was studying (mid-to-late 1990's I when got to pointe work), teachers would say that men don't have the hips to do pointe work. I thought that was bs, and when my friend Ricky started dancing en pointe in class, our teacher was genuinely perplexed. She told him he had women's hips. 🙃

silly question ,. Most dancers stay with the same maker for years, most dancers also do a lot of modifications to their shoes so they fit properly. Soooo why don't dancers simply send a pair of their pointe shoes back to the maker AFTER they modify them and the maker just make them like that cutting out the need to modify by the dancer altogether , the shoes last longer , fit better and can be worn right out of the bag? The same thing is done for professional baseball players ,.. the bat maker knows exactly how the player wants his bat , has it on file, and just delivers it custom made.
@elainemacdonald6541Ай бұрын
@MYshaman This sounds logical to me. It may not entirely eliminate need for modifications, but it sounds like it could significantly reduce the amount of modification that the dancer has to do.
@eg-2585Ай бұрын
Not a silly question at all! Some of the bigger companies like the Royal Ballet do that but ultimately the dancers still need to make certain modifications themselves - usually breaking the shoes in, moulding them to their feet and sewing ribbons on. Feet are different to baseball bats as they can change day to day based on what/when/how much you’re dancing, so most pros need slightly different shoes for different days. Pointework is still a pretty traditional art form, with dancers having always worked on their own shoes. It requires a degree of personalisation that usually only the dancer themselves is truly able to fulfill. IMO the Royal Ballet’s approach is ideal but it doesn’t come cheap. Pointe shoes take time to make and can’t really be mass produced, so personalising modifications is simply too expensive/time-consuming for most companies.
@frugalhousewife9878Ай бұрын
Cost and time, but also some dancers really like to modify their shoes themselves.
@caityjayde96Ай бұрын
I remember this coming up in a video with Skylar Brandt a few years ago, and she said she could get the makers to do the modifications she makes for her, but that making some of her own modifications is important because it's how she bonds with the shoe.
@ThePointeShopАй бұрын
Good question! Pointe shoes are made around a last, which is a general mold of the foot. Pointe Shoe Specs are not just the length of foot, there's also width, vamp length, shank strength, ect. Without modifications, there are already SO MANY lasts because there's a different mold for every size version of the shoe. For example, there's a different mold for a 6 Narrow, to a 6 Medium, 6 Wide, ect. That's not accounting for the variations in glue for a soft/medium/hard shank. So there's already A TON of variation in 'standard' sizes in ONE MODEL of a shoe. Then you have to account for the fact that most brands have several models of shoes. And most models are shaped around certain foot types, ect. Long story short, the reality of production is that the work load is already huge (and still mostly handmade). Add in the fact that most dancers training en pointe, are growing & changing sizes often. Many professionals are able to ask for custom changes once they get to that level & not paying for their own shoes (cutting fabric down on the sides, more glue in the wings, ect), but it only makes sense for the pointe shoe companies to accommodate this because these dancers are not growing, and can order in bulk to last a season. Unfortunately it's not like a baseball bat in the sense that they can use this one custom for their whole career, as professional dancers can go through several pairs of shoes in a short amount of time. Hope that helps!

@greenbeantm1096Ай бұрын
1) not sickled, correctly pointed, nice looking arches, etc. 2) it’s just not how it was done traditionally but it’s starting to become a bit more common 3) general rule of thumb is 12 but it’s more about training than age. If you received no, bad, or not enough training then you shouldn’t be on pointe even if you’re 12.
